Caesar, I love you. Can you give me the location? This is first-rate stuff for the site.

The location for the Ragnarok sprite? Sure. He's in the same area I sent you before: $133B00, except you might have to scroll down a ways to find him. He's after the dice, atma weapon, noise blaster, and shock sword graphics. Btw, this is all in SNES 3 bpp format. Take a look!

Edit
You know this isn't the esper sprite, right? I haven't played FFVI on the cartridge in awhile, but I remember seeing Ragnarok on the overworld before. Do you talk to him in the basement of the weapon shop in Narshe, or is that just somebody else? Anyways, this sprite looks just like the esper, but smaller, as seen in my screenshot, so I assumed it was him.

It resembles the Ragnarok, aye: user posted image

It's just too bad we can't take a look at the Esper Ragnarok sprite, because whereever could such a picture be found?

It's definately dummied. There is one other out-battle sword sprite, and this is seen in Cyan's dream (Elayne + Owain morph into the Aura katana) and on Leo's grave.

I'll definately take a look at that whole area, as I'm hoping for more of these goodies.

Edit

If you want to get a little more funky with those pinguins, btw, the Reaper, cherubs and chocobo's as used in spell animations are found at $131a00

That's got to be my most favorite location in the ROM...so many good weapon, tool, spell, etc. graphics. The Ragnarok sprite I was talking about, though was the one seen in this screenshot: user posted image except with a different palette. As for the esper sprite, I have NO idea where it could be...I scanned through the entire file in 2, 3, 4, and 7 bpp formats, and didn't find it.

It doesn't really matter all that much. If you want to change Esper sprites, you can always use the custom program that's available. And if you really want to know about the location, contact whoever wrote it (too darn lazy to remember right now).

P.S. What gave you the impression I don't know what sprite you're talking about? It was perfectly clear to me.

Well, the first time I mentioned it, I was just making sure, but once you sent the picture of the weapon sprite, I assumed you were unsure. My bad.

I am currently working on changing Ragnarok's Storm attack into something more suitable for him...I will call it "butcher" and I am making the animation from scratch to see what I can come up with. So far, it is amazing.

This sounds great. Umaro as a sword, I had no idea that could be done. You could even name it RagRok.

You know, Cactuar could replace Mog. Well, that is if you gave 'dance' to Golbeze (but I'm still an advocate of Golbeze using Lore, haha).

So I'm guessing the 'surprised', 'cocky', etc. sprites for the sword are just gonna be the same as the 'standing still' sprite?

That's right! happy.gif Since swords cannot express emotion, the frames for those poses are simply the sword standing still. There are two separate poses I made...one facing forward and one in profile. You really only see him in profile when walking to the side and for the victory fanfare.

I suppose he could...something just doesn't seem right about a barn full of Cacti, though.

Ave Ceasar, morituri te salutant!

You rock! You're my mentor tongue.gif I'm eager to see your hack.

PinkpuffRvng: Ext. of mountains
Stimulant: Fields
Eclipse: Caverns
AgadouDouDou: Village

Moon Shine: The Moon appears (as in Fenrir summon and don't forget the dark background) and rubish-red pearls appear from sky and go to allies (in an angel motion). Gives image status. "Fields"

Crystal meteor: A crystal falls in the middle of enemies, freezing them. "Snow fields"

That's all for today, friends. Tomorrow, how to build an atomic bomb with corn starch and popsicle sticks in five minutes.

Oh! A flying blue pig! Oh no! It will eat my elephant...

Can that heat stop? I'm gonna vaporized tongue.gif

Music to my ears...Latin is such a great language. Especially when saying "Hail Caesar, we who are about to die salute you!".

Anyways, I really like the sound of Moon Shine and Crystal Meteor. Those will be fun to make. However, I am still working on Butcher, but I am making excellant progress. Unfortunately, I can't tell you what it looks like since that would take away from when you use it the first time...same for the finished product of the Ragnarok character. You will just have to wait and see.

Btw, I really appreciate all the praise I am getting with this project...it really helps motivate me. thumbup.gif I hope you enjoy my hack once I release it. That reminds me...there probably WON'T be a beta version of this out, since I don't know how much more I will add. I don't want to release a beta version and then the final copy a week or two later with only some text or minor details changed ("Hey look, I changed Ultima's palette again!").

Edit
Hooooooly crap....Butcher is the most amazing attack I have ever created. It looks amazing. I will let Phunbaba or Djibriel see it if either of you wish, since I have means of sending it to either of you. Seriously, though, this move is hilarious! I wish I could post a video of it in action, but I can't.

You are becoming greater by the minute, C. Now not only assembling hex data for spells, but actually changing the meaning of these things.

Give me the locations I need to change and the stuff I need to change it into and I'll give you some feedback.

Thanks, Djibriel. The sequence is about 100 bytes long, though. Just to warn you. I'll PM you the location and bytes, instead of posting it here so it can't be ripped off. I'm still thinking of what I want Bone Club to look like...as of now it is the Ragnarok sword (weapon ) which uses a large fiery explosion as the slice graphic, instead of a normal slice. Just 'cause Ragnarok is that good. Also, keep the Dance ideas coming. It's a lot easier to change 10 spells when you're in that mode than to change 2 and then change an enemy, and then some items, and then a few more spells.

Volcano: an unfocused Earth/Fire attack. For the graphics, the background shakes then Meteors (from the magic Meteor) with a red palette move in a Meteo motion. "Caverns"

Vial: Inflicts 3 random stats effects. Unblockable. *Hi-technology regions, such as the Magitek factory*
Prototype: 75%chance of something simlar to Flare on a random enemy, 15%chance it does nothing, 10% it kills the caster. *Same as above*
Mobilesuit: Character drops out of Dance status, and is placed in a full-power (Like Terra's) Magitek armor for the remainder of battle. *Like the rest of these, hi-tech areas.*

Goonies: Sounds good, except I'd probably make it for mountain regions...just because I think volcano would fit better in an "outdoor" region than inside.

WGG: There are no dances that take place in high-industry places, and I'm not sure how to change that. However, I could make some of those for the "town" area. I'm not exactly sure if Prototype is possible, but I may be able to make Vial and MobileSuit.

Hi-technology areas are considered "towns" areas.

Implosion: Instant-death attack, poor accuracy, target one enemy. A blue version of the beginning of flare. "Water"

I'm getting short of ideas. Doesn't sound good for my hack. tongue.gif

Bad fish : Casts 'Bio', Seizure, and possibly either Stop or Slow on one target. (Hack gag cough splat! tongue.gif ) Town area.

Focused Strike: Barehanded attack graphic, instant kill.
(1/4 chance of connecting)

Dance of Madness (If possible, learned in the Tower)- changes the background music to Dancing Mad (Final), and casts either Fallen One, Goner, or Doom on all enemies.

Goonies: Sounds good...I'll add it to the list. I didn't remember if town included high-industry locations or not. Thanks for clearing that up. thumbup.gif

WGG: Bad Fish and Focused strike are possible, but I have no idea about Dance of Madness.

The general public: Don't worry about not having many ideas...I have been getting plenty ideas to keep me busy. Plus, I may take a break since school is starting soon. Once I get back into the routine of everything, I'll get back to work. If ideas are still being posted, I'll respond, of course, and write them down for when I change everything, but don't expect any screenshots or anything for awhile (awhile being a few weeks tops).

Edit
I may fix together a beta version before I take my break, but again, I don't know how much is left to be changed. There's the dances, the final battle, the "statues", and then some custom animation skills that I have in mind. Let me know if you would prefer to just download the patch when it's completely finished, or if you would like to play it as is. I'll leave it up to you.

Wind God Gau, you shouldn't put your e-mail address directly on the net (unless you want to be spammed).

Ceasar, if you want some beta testers, I can help you. Between the movies, the school, the organization of parties, I WILL find the time to play (who needs to go to school these days?) tongue.gif

Mind crusher: A launcher attack that inflicts muddle status. The graphics should be Golbez in fight stance. Ah! And don't forget the background getting darker. "Town"

Heroic Motivation: Boost the level of one ally by 25% and if it would be possible to boost the chance of doing a desperation attack, this magic would do it "ext. mountains"

Second chance: Reset the battle "whatever"

Frenzy: Give temporary X-Fight and X-Magic status. Last as long as Sleep/Freeze/Stop/etc. statuses last."whatever"

Except for Mind Crusher (which is not my best idea ever), I doubt that these magics are doable, but we never know what we can accomplish until we accomplish it. (I think that I heard this in a movie).

Here are another ideas (WARNING: This is complete crap tongue.gif)

Chicoutimi: The language of the game change to french

Jean Charest: the caster becomes the target of any attack/magic for 4 years

Its my beta addy, so it doesnt matter if it gets spammed or not. =happy.gif=
And Second Chance *SHOULD* be doable- just have it auto-escape and auto-reenter battle, just like the 'Reset' spell from FFV!

WGG: Your mobilesuit idea could, sort of be made. You could make it give your party Magitek status, meaning they would all be riding magitek armor, however you could ONLY give it to your entire party, and it wouldnt be powered up, except for terra's obviously.

Anyway, I already told Caesar a few of my ideas, but i'll post 'em here again. These ideas are both perfectly 'Do Able'. I could make them my self, but only the second one would make sense in my hack.

Esper Bangle: Relic, can only be equipped to Terra, give you PERMANENT esper status, while equiped. Yeah it would be a bit over powered, but what are you gonna do? You could make it give you -7 to all stats or something, who knows.

Rifle: I was discussing this idea with Caesar over AIM, and it would work as both a weapon and a relic. It would be cooler as a weapon, however it would be a bit more work. Also you would have to make it so that Shadow doesnt use the 'Throw' command. Anyway, you make it so that you can't 'Throw' any of the weapons in the game. Then you make the Rifle turn Fight into Throw (which you could re name to 'Fire', 'Gun', 'Rifle', 'Shoot', ect.). Then you make items called bullets which can be thrown with this command. Then you have your Gun. You could even make better versions of this gun which give you different things such as 100% hit rate, or vigor + whatever. You know, chick stuff.

Anyway, the problem with the gun as a weapon is that if you counter attack via Black Belt, you'd have a picture of a sword. I came up with the idea of the Pistol whip. replace a certain weapon's animation with the animation for capture or something. So you would pistol whip them in the back of the head.

Anyway, like I said, these are both, makeable weapons. The first one would be VERY easy to make, while the second takes a bit more work. See ya.

Edit
WGG: It's funny you should mention a reset attack. When Caesar and I were working on animations editing, we found how to make glitches reset the game. And by reset the game, I mean, you go back to the title screen. Not quite what you meant, but I thought it funny you should bring it up.

Rifle.. that idea KICKS A$$!
Ammo ideas!
Softpoint- Has an extremely high critical hit rate
Shotgun Shell: Standard bullet with Launcher effect
Tranquilizer Dart: Sleep status on target.
Cannonball: MASSIVE Damage on entire enemy party, but removes the user and kills a random party member (You think firing a cannon round out of a friggin' RIFLE isnt goin to produce ill effects?)

Haha...reset attack. That's got to be the greatest attack ever made, T6L. Since I won't make it in my hack (you'd better hope not, anyways), I'll divulge a plan I had incorporating that attack. As you know, the final battle will be absolute hell. With a combined 10,000,000 HP between the 4 bosses you fight, you will be VERY relieved to finally make it to Kefka. Well, this is where the attack comes in to play. Kefka's final attack would look something like this: Once Kefka dies, randomly choose between (nothing), (nothing), or reset attack. Of course, I COULD make it a 66% chance to be cast as a final attack, and add in his laugh to it, as well. That's got to be the most frustrating attack ever.

Goonies: I'm not sure how many of those possibilities are possible, but even if they were, I'm running out of spaces to put them. I have some slots open in the Desert area, as well as the forest, I think. I'll post a chart up here sooner or later. Btw, it's not that I'm really LOOKING for beta testers...it's really just that if you want to play it, I'll send it to you since I don't know when I'll finish. Personally, I suggest waiting until I release the completed version. Plus, I'm getting motivated to make some of these things all of a sudden, so I may finish sooner than I expected.

T6L: The rifle would definitely kick ass. If you want to use it in our hack instead, that's fine with me, since I still get to make it. happy.gif I look forward to it. I'm not sure about the Esper Bangle or not...we'll see. What might be a good idea is to make the Air Anchor graphic into a rifle or gun of some sort and then use that graphic with the weapon "rifle". If that's not possible, maybe we could change the tools into weapons (AutoCrossbow-->automatic gun of some sort, NoiseBlaster-->some huge firearm, etc).

WGG: I like those ideas a lot! Tranquil dart is a good one, as are Cannonball and Shotgun cartridge, but I might modify them slightly (so that the Cannon doesn't kill off your entire party before it kills your targets).

Here is the chart I promised. Please note that I won't remake this in a new post everytime I find a new dance-worthy idea. I will just keep editing this post and referencing it in later posts. More efficient. Also note that there are a few dances I will probably add, but haven't written down as definite additions. Btw, I still need names for these dance titles, as Love Sonata and Earth Blues aren't very Golbez-esque.. biggrin.gif
Key: Spells marked with * are still subject to change

I have to say too that rifle ROCKS.

6th Lime, have you made a hack already?

Almost useless (if not completly) idea for a dance: remove dance status as well as the music.

So, Reset is doable? Good! Because if Ceasar won't take it, I'll take it. thumbup.gif I just want someone that can explain me how to do it. unsure.gif

Edit
I'm proud! You have taken five of my dances! rolleyes.gif That's gonna rock! Can you PM me the hex values for Crystal Meteor? (yes, I started to manipulate hex and I must say that is cool) ... unless you want to give me the surprise. biggrin.gif

Yeah it kicks ass!

While we're on the topic of Ammo Ideas...

Normal Bullet: Standard Bullet. Does good damage.
Cursed Ammo: Countdown status on target.
Web Shot: Slow status on target.
Chain Ammo: Fires several shots via launcher effect. This one i'm not sure if it's possible.
Impairing Shot: Blind and Stop status on target.
Sniper Shot: Death status on target.
Holy Shot: Revives target. Make it only targetable on enemies, so it will only effect the undead.
Russian Roulette: Same as the roulette spell, just in ammo form.
Beam Clip: You could make it use Tek Laser's graphic. Most powerful ammo, pierces defense.

Yeah lots of cool things could be made with the ammo idea. Actually I just came up with another way of making the Rifle.

You could make the rifle use the Tool Command rather than the throw command. Then have the different tools be different types of ammo. This would also fix one problem, which is, if the rifle is a weapon, you could counter attack with the Normal Ammo. Either way works, it's really just if you want the player to have Infinite ammo of each type, rather than having to buy it.

But in argument of Throw being better, you could make some awesome ammo, that you cant get more than a few of. Something rare and powerful like Beam Clip.

Edit
Goonies: I've never really had the motivation to finish a hack, but I have discovered a lot of information regarding FF3, and have been hacking it for more than 2 years now. I'm working on a hack right now. It's a big small hack. The game isn't Final Fantasy 3 anymore. The characters, world, plot, even some of the battle system has changed. I'm building a game off of the FF3 Engine.

Your removing the dance idea would actually be good. It can replace that last dance move in every set thats really rare. You could have it simply remove dance status on the caster. Regain your freedom!

As for reset. You can't reset a BATTLE. You can however reset the GAME. The code is still a little glitchy, but Caesar and I worked on it awhile back. I believe he was going to have a boss cast it or something.

T6L: I actually had that idea while typing my response. happy.gif Great minds think alike, eh? I'll talk to you more about it on AIM, since a few questions I have would likely take up several pages between both of our answering.

Goonies: Reseting the game is doable, but reseting the battle....unsure. I may make it an attack...depends on how mean I'm feeling when I change things. If not, though, I'll let you know how to make it, and it's all yours. Basically all you have to do is glitch the animation code and I know of PLENTY of ways to do that. shifty.gif

Caesar: Yeah unfortunately we run into those glitches far too often. Oh well. Good CAN come from it.

Ah! Damn it! Reset would be doable but...

I suppose that it would take a lot of ASM hacking (what does ASM mean anway?). This would have to stock a lot of variables at the beginning (16 for current/max HP/MP, 4 for the characters and 1 for the background (let's dance!!!)) Also, in each enemy formation, there would be a byte that can "turn down" the Reset spell so it can't be usable. This will remove all possibilities of glitch (especially in last battle).

Edit
I was just thinking of that: Since there would be a switch to turn that spell, only 9 variables are needed. 8 for current HP/MP and 1 for the background. Just turn off all battles with special events, change in party members, those that bug without reason...

Do you mean the REAL reset attack T6L and I "made", or the "return" spell from FFV? If it's the first one, there is no way to prevent it...life 3 isn't going to stop the game from reseting, and neither will any other sort of protection you can think of. It is the ultimate attack. Well...next to my "crash" attack. You can just guess what that baby does. happy.gif
