I've been thinking lately, how do potions actually work? Do they add extra white blood cells into the body, or is it like a blood transfusion(because it's red unsure.gif ). I just wanna know what you guys think about it.

Potions contains magic whose repares brokens cells, accelerate natural regeneration and removes scars. As heroes advances in level, they are able to resist to more damage, but more potions are needed...

...or so I think...

Maybe its "magic juice." I mean, how many drinks do you have that have make you at least see those crazy lights when you use them!

think of it this way.... for us tylenol gets digested and goes through the cell walls and provides relief...... this is probably the same way these potions work.... by drinking them they are absorbed into your blood stream/cells and provide "relief" and restoration

No no no. It's simpler than that. You toss the potion up into the air, and cool shiny stuff sprinkles on you and green numbers appear. happy.gif

Seriously, it's just a magic drink that gives energy to the cells of your body because that's just how magic energy works. If we want a better explanation of how magic drinks work... we should ask Stephen Hawking.

A potion is actually ground-up Advil that has been melted down to a liquid state. pinch.gif Why would you honestly care, though? laugh.gif

Speaking of potions, and if they really are magical, what happens to the jar afterwards?

Wouldn't it be cool if you drank the potion, then saw them throw the glass only to hear that satisfying tell-tale noise?

Potions are really just a concoction made up of rubbing alcohol and Neosporin. The green numbers that appear are how much the company's making in product placement.

Okay then, think about this:

If healing potions are magic, are magic potions magic? I would say no.

On another interesting note, when I was playing Super Mario RPG once, I though it would be funny if the world wasn't modeled after real life but Mario land, and when a monster got attacked, they could see the damage numbers flash up in front of them (knowing how many "hp" they had).

Then I attacked a Goomba for much more hp than it had, and imagined the last thing going through its mind was "Holy shi*POOF*" as it disappeared in stars.

I thought that was rather funny. Imagine, watching the exact number of damage that you recieved spring up in front of you and disappear.

That is just as discouraging as watching the monster version as an enemy heals itself and seeing those green numbers on the screen only to think "Aww crap, the dream stooges just totally recoverd all the damage that I have done!"

A little off topic, but you made an interesting point. What about ethers? How do they work. To answer this question, we must look at how MP would actually work. I'll let u guys ponder this for awhile.

Magic has always sorta been a "life force" type of thing.

Maybe its tied to the power of your soul? And potions to restore your MP restore your inner strength. Kind of like the refreshing feeling you get from drinking cold water on a hot day(rejuvinating).

I think that special wizards/phantom beasts gathered magical excess from their fallen comrades, or perhaps the statues themselves. In doing so, this concoction of souls and magical energy can be used to replenish one's own soul/magical force after excessive magical use. (Of course that's just what I think) smile.gif

But then wouldn't they be so rare that they would be worth 1 billion GP! And to have such a great number at the time when the game takes place, it would have to have been going on since the dawn of time. But I'm liking what I'm seeing.

Maybe Tintinctures are ground up Espers from the Magitek facility pinch.gif Though that wouldn't make sense, seeing as Tintinctures are still around after it gets blown up... Still it's a thought... A gross thought, but a thought.

I always figured Magic was a seperate kind of power, bestowed by Espers. I mean, It can't be your "soul" since Locke and the others didn't have Magic to begin with, and they still had souls. My guess is that it's just Esper Power kept in reserve somewhere in the body or something, Seing as Celes, and Terra, who were the only original Magic users, both had Esper in 'em.

Some of them do have magic to begin with, its just not called magic. What else are some of Sabins blitzes or Cyans sword techniques. I think they just haven't learned to use it yet, like an untrained Jedi.

Blitzes and Sword Techs could be considered "magic" I supose, but they don't take up MP I belive, so we aren't talking about the same sort of power here. I always thought Bliztes and Sword Techs and the like were just overt displays of physical power... But I digress.

I would imagine other things to be magical too, like "soft," or "revivify" and things like that. How about green cherries too? They all instantly change your status.

Here's my theory...
HP are also known as Hit Points, correct? Why Hit, not Health? Because they represent the enemies chance to land a good, solid blow. The more hits made, the more tired you get, from blocking/dodging said hits. When HPs are at zero, the attack wa to much for you to block, and actually connected. This is why Life spells do not work on completely dead stuff- Life heals wounds, not death. Potions are the FF equivalent of energy drinks- revitalizing you. This also explains why a night in an inn/a meal cures all- hat better way to boost your energy (and treat wounds) than taking a few hours off to rest?

Very true, that easily explains why certain characters like Leo for instance, cannot be brought back.
