I'm thinking about picking up a Japanese PSX unit and some classic games to take home with me when I head back to the States, as I've seen that prices on used Playstation units and games here are becoming very reasonable. However, as this would still be a substantial financial undertaking for me, I'd like to consider the purchase carefully beforehand: Whether or not it's worthwhile to do, and if it is, what games I might like to purchase.
Assuming I bought the PSX unit, some games I've thought of so far include: Final Fantasy Tactics Castlevania: Symphony of the Night Intelligent Qube My budget for this is slightly tight, so I'd ask that you please recommend me only one or two "all-time favorite" games, or some games that I might be able to find used at very reasonable prices and still get good play time out of. If you have played any titles that were never released Stateside, and you have found to be worthwhile plays, I'd be interested to hear about those as well. Finally, I do not intend to purchase any games that were merely rehashed on the PSX--for example, I would not like to include a copy of Final Fantasy Anthologies or Origins as part of this purchase. Before you simply list those one or two games, however, please take a moment to give me some feedback on the idea of purchasing a used PSX unit here in general. Thanks! |

I would suggest you buy a good version of FFVII. Preferably one where the text isn't botched. But thats me. I think it would be worth it just to find out what they were supposed to be saying.

Edit: Clarified in chat. Yeah, I had considered getting FFVII to see a more accurate storyline... and also to see that "Aeris is in Japanese version!!!11" rumor settled firsthand. I would suggest the JP Dragon Quest games, as well as Xenogears.

I got one just for FF Tactics (yeah, real surprise there, huh?) and I've never regretted it. I also got Origins and Anthology. There are a few really good reasons to get one right there..... the best reason is still Tactics, though.

I would suggest getting Vib Ribbon. Its a great game that was never released in the US. I don't see the point in buying games that are availible in your home country.

it all depends really. you see when dreamcast was about to come out my friend ordered it from japan because he couldnt wait. it was good for a while but he had to order the games from japan because the japanese dreamcast only played japanese discs. tho for some reason they had some english in them i cant explain that. so what i would do is flip a coin.
