While experimenting with graphics for the VacuumEdge and/or shockwave techs, I came upon this graphic:
![]() I thought it was pretty cool. Cecil does swing his sword before this, it's not just the impact dome. I like it...the timing it perfect with it too (Cecil swings the sword, and the dome appears right when he's done swinging). I'm not sure exactly where this would fit in. Maybe you could think of a move to fit this, WGG. Until then, I'll keep looking for a VacuumEdge graphic. Quote Edit: That targets a single enemy. Also, I found a graphic for VacuumEdge. It's a very simple graphic, but that's what I was going for since it's the first DarkSwd technique. Cecil swings the sword, and the blue star appears. Simple. Here is a screenshot: ![]() I was thinking about using a black palette swap of the LiveShaver attack, but I decided against it. #1 - Is it possible to change algorithms for damage calculation of Fire, Ice and Bolt to allow more importance to levels? So, it would free 6 spaces (fire 2&3 and so on) to do customs spells.
#2 - Change the spells in lore menu to take the espers attack(I don't think that they can fit all 26) and change the name for Call, Calling, Summon or whatever. #3 - Change Break (pretty useless) into a water spell. Maybe Djbriel's Seaslice. I find it cool! #4 - Change a blitz into Redemption. It could remove the undead status of an undead. #5 - Change of Comdemned: (La Mort, The Death, the Doom spell's guy or whatever) appears in the middle of the screen with clock hasting on all enemies. #6 - Idea for a DarkWave (sort of anti-Redemption). Inflict Life 3 status on enemy, but when he dies, a lich appears instead. (It's look more like an battle script). #7 - I know there's some Game Genie codes that can give effects of all relics on a character. Maybe we can give some characters some relics effects without relics, like: Gengi glove with Sabin, X-Magic with the guy who would have Call menu (see #2), Sprint shoes on Locke... hope that my precious ideas will make the world better ![]() Edit I like your pingouin, but I would have change Mog instead of Edgar. Anyway, the pingouin king rocks! This post has been edited by Goonies on 31st July 2004 03:17 -------------------- «À l'aventure compagnons, je suis parti vers l'horizon! First of all, I'm glad to see that members bisdes me and WGG are reading this topic.
![]() I don't know if #1 is possible. Maybe some of the elite hackers could help out here. As for #2, I have several original lores, so remaking the entire list for esper attacks and changing the function of the ability (learn the attack if hit by it) would seem sort of pointless...plus I like the magic/esper system. #3: I'm not sure if it mentioned it before or not, but I added two new water spells into the black magic list, since There weren't any previously. I agree, though, Djibriel's SeaSlice attack is cool. ![]() #4: There are no more blitzes to replace...plus I'm not sure exactly when removing the undead status would be useful...maybe so they don't come back after an instant kill attack? #5 is possible...I might do it if I need to use the existing condemned graphics for another attack. As of now, it's all set though. #6 would be difficult to do...to be perfectly honest, I'm not exactly sure how to do it. I like Dark Wave the way it is...massive amounts of unblockable physical damage to all. ![]() Lastly, #7 is somewhat possible. I don't know if you can make a permanent relic ability on a character, but there is a way around it. You can simply add the effect you desire on every weapon that is unique to that character. E.G. All of Sabin's claws would allow two claws to be equipped, to achieve the effect described oin your post. It could be done, but as is the problem with a lot of other ideas that come to mind, I don't want to overpower the characters too much. Quote I like your pingouin, but I would have change Mog instead of Edgar. Anyway, the pingouin king rocks! Haha thanks! The penguin is my favorite change in my entire hack. He doesn't replace Edgar, however. He replaces imp. That's right: penguin is a status effect. So there's no need to worry; once I finish my hack, you can download it and keep Edgar as Edgar, and make Mog the penguin, or make neither of them the penguin. Personally, I would "penguinize" all my party members if only more than one set of penguin equipment existed in the game and was easier to obtain. #1 is very much possible. Information which is needed to be changed is hardcoded in the C2 bank. ASM Coding, blah blah. I really need to get funky with that one day.
#6 is not possible. Monsters which can appear in battle need to be stored in the monster formation. You can't add something like that. Closest thing is replacing the Imp spell, but Caesar likes his pinguins ![]() I trust in your ability to create SeaSlice for yourself, but you can always PM me if you want the data for it. I think I'm going to let you keep SeaSlice...just for the originality factor. If I do decide to use it, though, I'll PM you for permission. ![]() Okay, I need some input on this: I decided to fix FuSoYa's palette finally, and found two easy fixes for it. I have to change the color of the other sprites' hair (only those sharing his palette, of course). I have 4 sprite sheets of each color swap possibility, one for Relm, Gau, Banon, and Kefka. Please let me know which you prefer. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() This is the first possibility...light blue hair for all. ![]() ![]() ![]() This is #2. A deep purple color for all. I didn't do a sheet of Kefka for this color 'cause I'm lazy...just use your imagination. Personally, I think this is the better of the two. Id' like feedback as soon as possible, so I can get to work while I'm still motivated. ![]() -------------------- Is PJ |

I can see the original image files in Firefox and not IE. Makes sense, since IE has many ridiculous compatibility issues with PNG.

Quote I can see the original image files in Firefox and not IE. Makes sense, since IE has many ridiculous compatibility issues with PNG. That would make sense since it worked on my comp, but not my brother's. It seems that the 1st option is popular. It would probably be safe to assume I can go ahead and change the palette now, since the colors in option 2 still exist in the palette...they just aren't the default hair colors. Hmmm... that is a cool graphic... now what would fit...
Ok, I have a few ideas: SoulPulse (spell) : Cuts enemy HP by 1/4, has 5% chance of causing Death. NeoFlare (Lore) : Causes ~4k Water/Fire damage. And, if you want to do 'character exclusive' weapons... Ion Cannon (Edgar-Only) : High-power weapon. Has a 'Drain MP for Criticals' effect. Non-elemental. 2-handed ONLY (has a built in Gauntlet effect for this) -------------------- Uwao. aooh! I'm Gau! I'm your friend! Let's travel together! |

Hmm...Soul Pulse could work. I'll just replace slash with that, since they're similar. I like the idea of having two contrasting elements for a spell. A water/fire or water/lightning lore could work, but not for this...this was meant to be a SwdTech.
I changed the menu pics for Relm and Gau, since their hair changed colors. Here are the updated pics: ![]() Gau doesn't look too bad in blue. ![]() -------------------- Is PJ |

I'm always open to weapon changes.
![]() ![]() I really don't like Relm, which is why I didn't spend any time changing hers besides switching palette colors. Gau's I experimented with some different shades a little though. I'm satisfied. I'm having difficulties getting a decent menu portrait for Golbez, though. I resized the head from his battle sprite (as an enemy) from FFIV, and rounded it a little, but it's still not near the quality I'd like it to. Again, laziness factor kicks in. Quote Edit: I wasn't sure if you meant weapons or WEAPONS...if it was the latter, just disregard the entire first paragraph ![]() This post has been edited by Caesar on 1st August 2004 00:02 -------------------- Is PJ |

Alrighty then, here I go!
Spirit Ring (Ghost ONLY): Ups all stats by 1. Targets not only targetted enemy, but 1 other (randomly chosen) PenguCannon (Edgar Only): Fires 2 TekMissiles. (only damages once though). WindFang (Gau only): Works just like TempestKnife, except no MeritAward is needed- and when Gau rages, 100 % Tornade Attack rate. Sword Chucks (All who can weild swords): Mid-power, uses HP to inflict criticals. Pingun (Edgar only): Blowfish, in a gun! -------------------- Uwao. aooh! I'm Gau! I'm your friend! How about for the final battle you use Choas on the first tier, then Neo-Exdeath on the second tier, and Zeromus on the third tier. Then on the last tier have a buffed up version of Kefka.

WGG, I'm liking the ideas here. I have some pretty sweet ideas lined up. For the Spirit Ring, I have had difficulties changing the targetting of weapons...it seems the targetting works when you throw the weapons (the tack star now targets the entire enemy group), but not when you simply attack. So, I can't change the targetting you desire. I can make the Spirit Ring add some pretty decent bonuses though. I have an amazing idea for the PenguCannon. I'll spare the details until either it fails or it works. It will be able to be equipped by more than just Edgar though, since anybody can become a penguin, but I'm not sure who to limit it to. Part of me really really wants to limit it to ONLY Umaro, but since I'm convinced that I'm the only one who uses him, I doubt I will. I also have an amazing idea for the WindFang, but again, I'll save the details until a later point.
Phunbaba: This idea has potential, but I'm not exactly sure how it will look. The tiers are background graphics, not actual enemy sprites, so if I replaced them with chaos, neo-exdeath, and zeromus, the tiers would still be there. I included a picture of what it might look like if Chaos was the battle on the first tier. However, I think this would make the final battle much more interesting. Chaos would have his classic instant death attacks...possibly Nuclear every once and awhile or as a final death attack just to keep you on your toes. I won't be able to make Neo-Exdeath's Black Hole attack, due to the lack of free spells. However, I think that can be solved by him using X-zone. Similar attacks, plus it'll work wonders with a strategy of his I just thought of. For Zeromus, I will most likely have to make Big Bang a completely new spell. I'll find some useless spell to change, I'm sure. Anyways, I think this could be a very very difficult battle. With 4 new bosses, each with plenty of HP (trust me...if I do this, they'll have PLENTY) it'll give a last battle worthy of being called a last battle (none of this "one-hit kill" garbage). Let me know what you think! ![]() Quote Edit: Forgot to add the pic. Opps! ![]() This post has been edited by Caesar on 1st August 2004 00:36 -------------------- Is PJ |

You're right, it doesn't look too bad. One thing I forgot about completely though is space. Zeromus, Neo-Exdeath, and Chaos are all 128x128 graphics. I'm already having difficulties making room for the WEAPONS. I'll see what I can go. Hopefully, one of the elite FFVI hackers out there will come up with a patch that will allow the relocation of enemy graphics so I don't run into this problem anymore.
![]() Quote Edit: WGG, my PenguCannon idea works! Screenshots to come later. Quote Edit: I can do one of two options with this cannon...I can either make it a standard weapon, replacing darts or doom darts (I'm not sure which's graphic I found), or I can make it a tool, replacing Air Anchor. Here is a screenshot of the PenguCannon tool: ![]() Let me know what you think. Also, note that there are no colors besides grays and whites in the Air Anchor palette, and I'm unsure how to change it. If it was a standard weapon, it could be changed to include oranges, as well. Hmmm....that would probably work. I have never thought of that before. In fact, there would most likely be some space left over. I could do that. Of course then I'd have to think of an image to reuse for the statue battles....I'll think of something, don't you worry.

Is it just me, or is that PenguCannon shooting a fish skeleton? Its GREAT! Hrmm... is there a way to code it so that it is only equippable on 'Penguin' chars?
... More Special Weps!! Skri-Chek: Basically a yoyo- with razorblades! Shadow only. Pendant: (Terra only, autoget after she rejoins in WOR): Instead of an attack graphic, you see the 'Spell Chant' one, followed by the target being enveloped in some sort of energy. DragonBone (Umaro only): Stats upped quite a bit, as well as Haste. (You arent the only Umaro fan, Caesar!) ... And, some relics! Stressed: 5 percent chance of countering ANY attack with a Desperation Attack. All chars. LeadSoleBoots: Immunity to 'WInd', as well as preventing character from being blown off screen. (Sneeze immunity, basically) Sedative: Controllable rages! -------------------- Uwao. aooh! I'm Gau! I'm your friend! Let's travel together! |

WGG, I made a slight change to the PenguCannon...I didn't like it as a tool since there were no yellows or oranges. Soooo I made it a standard weapon. If Umaro can equip weapons, it will become a weapon for him, but if not, it'll most likely me for Edge or Shadow. Not sure. Basically the user just throws tiny penguins at the enemy (like darts). I included a screen shot:
![]() As for your new ideas: I don't know of any yo-yo graphics in the game, or any that act like a yo-yo (except maybe some of Locke's boomerangs), however, I did come across a hammer when looking at the game with a generic tile editor. I think I'm going to make it a weapon, since you can't mess with a toy hammer. I think I have a good idea of what to do with the pendant...again, I'll get back to you. I think my PenguinDarts will replace the DragonBone as Umaro's special weapon, since they're awesome. ![]() ![]() Quote Edit: It seems Umaro can't equip weapons, so I'll either make the PenguinDarts his default weapon, or I'll make them the standard graphics for the Gilgamesh Darts (the ultimate weapon of the gambler-class weapons). Well, technically I'm called Wind God Gau after Master Zed's discovery of Merit Award+Tempest+Gau+Stray Cat= Ultimate Gau... =
![]() ... A few more ideas, too... (weps) Titan Edge: VERY powerful sword (255 power, +50 to all stats, Total elemental absorption)- but it can only be thrown! Basically a teaser. = ![]() Pinwheel: A throwing weapon, kinda like Shadow's stars, 'cept it targets every enemy. Weak. (items) Demon Potion: Restores HP for undead. Hurts living. MageLeech: Drops users MP to 0- and however much they lost, the enemy does too. InsanityPepper: Deals fire damage and casts Berserk on target. (Minor Stuff) Rename 'Steal' to 'Yoink'. If possible, have a sort of 'penny whistle' sound be played when this is used. Switch the Ghosts on the train to something else, if this isnt already done. -------------------- Uwao. aooh! I'm Gau! Wow, that Pinguin Cannon is fairly impressive. Could you tell me how exactly you did that?
