The first time Kefka was introduced, I pronounced Kefka as Kef-eee-ka. Pretty strange eh? biggrin.gif

I always pronounced it Kefka. What'd you think I would pronounce it? Sephiroth? =happy.gif=
Seriously though, Kef-ka. One syllable.

^ Two syllables, actually. tongue.gif

I pronounce it the same way as, well, everyone else. The only name I really had trouble with was Celes's, which I pronounced as "Cells" for several years.

How about "Sabin"... do you pronounce it like me (Suh-BIN) or like my roommate (rhyming with "cabin")?

Sabin, rhyming with 'Cabin'. And Celes was odd... I always pronounced her 'Cell-ease'

Gau's was always a trouble point for me... I wasnt sure whether it was pronounced 'Gow' or 'Gay-oo'. I stuck with 'Gow'' though.

I always pronounced Kefka, Kef-ka, Celes, Cel-ess, Sabin, Say-bin, and Gau, Gow. How about Locke though? Is is pronounced Lock, the way they spell it in the Japanese version? I always said it Lock-a, but is the e silent or not?

KEFF-kuh (rhymes with Jeff; has a schwa)

I've never seen a reason to pronounce it any differently.

Kefka- Keff-kuh

Sabin- Say-bin

Gau- "Saw" but with a G. Gaw.

Celes- Sell-eec, with the c sounding as in "cell"

Locke- Lock.

Cyan was the one I always wondered about. I decided on Sigh-anne.

Isn't there another more general pronunciation thread going somewhere here?

Anyway, kef-ka, rhymes with Jeff Mutt wink.gif ... but what about his last name? Is it pa-la-zo or is it pa-lat-so ?

Obviously, if there were a concretely defined way to pronounce these names as written, there would be no discussion. We're not talking about a phonetic transcription. We're talking about spellings of various names, most of which are not native English names. Depending on how you analyze the origin of some of these, you'd get different answers. Also, depending on your own regional dialect, you're just going to say things differently. For example, you're positive that "CELL-iss" is "just as it's written", but I beg to differ: I say "SEE-liss" with great consistency.

I always pronounced it "Palatso"... it looks italian to me, which I guess doesn't make any sense considering the game is japanese... heh

It makes a boat-load of sense minerva. They were definitely going for a European feel with FF6. Just think of Terra Branford, Setzer Gabbiani and so on.

this is probably where latin comes in handy... maybe not.

terra = tear-ah
kefka = kehf-kah or keef-ka
celes = cell-es or cell-us (not the long 'u', short)
locke = lock or would it be like loki?
cyan = ki-ann (basically, hard c)
gau = gaau

and so on... it's kinda wierd how i do it, but never take a name too literally, you have to take into account different culture's speaking patterns.

I never found anything challenging about Kefka's name. Of course, I heard someone say before I played the game, but still, it sounds as it looks.

I, for one, pronounced Celes "Seals".
Also, I knew a retard who pronounced Kefka "Keefa", like there was something so evil about the middle "k" consonant that he wouldn't speak it, like voldemort's name or something, and he had to say it "keefe-ah".

Blah! This is the most inane damn thread on this website. I challenge you to bring up something worse!

I pronounce them exactly as Caesar. How about Wisconsin and New York teaming up for regional consistency? I bet nobody saw that coming.

I believe that that is right. Though one thing, Loki is NOT god of the underworld. He is god of tricks and fire. Hel is god of the underworld. Look here

I alsways pronounced Celes as Cel-ess (short e) though.
