so...yeah. a friend of mine suggested that i should buy Chrono Cross. he told me that he belives is one of Square's best games. now, the two of us have always had varying views of what a good game is. a few examples: he believes that DMC 2 was much better than the original thumbdown.gif . also, he thinks that manhunt was a great game thumbdown.gif , i think it was sub-par thumbup.gif . back to the subject, should i buy this game. it's only like $15 so that's a plus right there thumbup.gif .

I've never played it myself but everyone I've talked to says it isn't that good... that's the one thing that's kept me from buying it so far.

A long time ago (like, four or five or six years), I traded a game that I didn't like (Xenogears, was it?) to Neal for a game he didn't like: Chrono Cross. Neal warned me before the trade that I was going to be disappointed with CC. He was right. I was. I couldn't get into the game at all; I thought it was silly, random, and all together lame.

So, I gave it to my ex boyfriend as a birthday gift. No, I'm not that mean; he asked me to. He liked it. Sergio isn't the brightest crayon in the box, though.

My current boyfriend owns the game. He managed to play through it once. He puts it on the same level as FFVIII. He wants to get rid of it, but he doesn't know anyone like Sergio on whom he can pawn it off.

So there you go. Three votes against CC, and one for it. I guess the moral of this story is that the only person I know who likes it is kinda a dimmer bulb.

Borrow it from a friend, then decide.

I thought it was OK but it needed a MUCH bigger map. The twist at the end is great though.

Finding out that Chrono et al efforts were all in vain was quite shocking

Well, I very much liked it. There are some things that can be improved (the battle music for one). The storyline was kinda like your older teen anime sci fi movie. I thought it was pretty good, but I'm sure that can drive some people away. Then there's the way you can take a countless number of paths in the game, playing through with different characters. And the whole battle system. That thing was pretty different. There seem to be a lot of variables in the game that could cause one to like, or not like, it. But in the end, I thought it was worth it.

I got it and thought iw was a decent game but no where near as good as CT. I thought it was a little too confusing and there were just too many characters to keep track off so I did not like that. Still a good game and if youy can get it for 15 bucks it is worth it.

I would agree with the "too many characters" statement. For a maximum of three characters in your party at once, having 43 (?) different available characters is pointless. Plus, if you have more then a couple of favorites, you cant possibly use them all. I thought the game was slow at the beginning, got a little better as it progressed a little, but then slowed wayyy back down afterwards. Also, once i found out that you have to replay the game multiple times to actually get all the characters, i decided to stop playing. dr8.gif

Well,CC's a decent game, and you can't go wrong getting it for $15. However, if you go in expecting an outright CT 2, you'll be very very disappointed. It's an entirely different experience. Without the Chrono label, it probably wouldn't be so hated.

so, i took your advice and b+ught it. lucky me, it was only 15 plus i found my Sam Goody memvership coupon thing that you get ofr starting a mebership. it was a $15 coupon so i got the game for free! lol. i'm playin and it's not bad. the battle system ain't bad, and the graphics aren't horr(ble. what i did find is, there are numerous characters, but one sword user is no more useful than another sword user. all in all, it's a good game so-far.

on my scale i put it behind FFVII but waaaaaaay before DMC2.
