Ahhh sorry i didnt check NPC's. I was just looking at the playable sprites. I guess ill have to consider that. As for Gestahl as a playable character, i think this discussion was held in Shinrin's thread: gestahl has no battle graphics, so i would either have to make them or get somebody to make them for me, and im really not up for either one. Id also have to find a character to replace Gestahl...

Actually Ghestal DOES have a battle sprite. Remember the battle on the floating continent between Kefka and Ghestal.

Shinrin and i have had this argument before: Gestahl only has 55 tiles which is not nearly what the main characters have (i forgot the exact number but im sure it was at least 120).

-Id rather not include any characters from FFI, since it is now a common belief that all of them talk like those from 8-bit theatre...and i would rather not make a character from 8-bit theatre since i would just be ripping off their idea (of course, thats basically what im doing for FFIV, but thats not the point). Summary: it is possible fighter would become a character but highly unlikely
-Strago hasnt been replaced YET. Figaro has offered to make the magus sprite, however the magus project hasnt begun yet. I could make strago FuSoYa since a majority of FuSoYa is a big white beard, and white and gray are definitely in stragos palette (and if theyre not, they will be soon enough). I would really like to incorporate Golbez as a character since i love his sprite from FFIV. Here are FuSoYa and Golbez's sprites, obtained from a FFIV character sheet from the shyguy kingdom:

-Lastly, any of those options are possible, with the exception of the TwinGods esper. I havent tried it yet, but from what i could guess, it would result in some serious graphics glitches. Alexander takes up nearly half the screen do mirroring him would be a mess as is. If you add on top of that 8 laser beams (no problem) followed by 8 of those insane explosions, then we get some issues. However, any of the other ideas are possibilities, granted i have enough space to import all those 128x128 images.

Well, TwinGods would only use 2 lasers, just HIT 8 times, but I see your problem. Hmm.. Golbez would be GREAT to add. And I can see your point with the FF1 thing.. this is, I take it, a semi-serious hack. I forgot about the Magus Project, so Strago's taken.... hrm. No idea who to drop or FuSoYa or Golbeze... Cyan would probably be a good bet for G though, if he's not already gone.

Magus hasnt been made yet. Strago is still strago, but will soon become FuSoYa. I think the palettes and roles of strago and FuSoYa are somewhat similar so it should work. Golbez seems to have a palette similar to cyan, shadow, and setzer. However, cyan is taken, and golbez wouldnt really fit as either of the others. Ill see what i can do after edge and fusoya are finished (a loooooong ways from now im sure).

Setzer hmmm...he hasnt been made into anybody yet, but im not sure if golbez really fits the profile of a gambler. Id have to reassign the slot ability and remake all the cards and darts and dice. I dont know...ill think about it.

Well, you *COULD* drop Slot, to just automatically use H-Bomb, calling it 'Air Raid' or somthing. Bombing the hell out of an enemy'd be pretty damn Golbezey, wouldnt it? And you would'nt have to change ALL the names... Doom Darts seems pretty Golbez-esque.

I suppose this is true...but ia lways pictured golbez using much stronger weapons. Maybe using shock would be golbezesque. Not sure. Who would use slot if not setzer? General Leo?! ill find some time to contemplate this.

Well....Slot can be useful for the Joker Doom trick. Maybe for GP rain, but im not sure how many people actually use GP rain or slot throughout the game. Maybe Golbez can replace setzer...ok i need some people to post with a reponse: do you use setzer's slot/gp rain abilities throughout the course of the game, and if so, would you be opposing to substituting them for shock, or a skill of the like?

I could replace slots with shock, or i could create a new skill more suited for Golbez. Id think about this more, but Golbes probably wont be made since i am awful at creating sprites and i have asked too many favors of the members here at CoN. If anybody would be willing to make me a Golbez sprite, i would be more than happy to supply the palette that he would use. If Golbez is ever made, ill think of an ability for him to use. Id really like to still use the spinning sword graphic, though, whatever i decide on. I will accept any help i can get.

hehe i would help you with golbez but i actually need help with a sprite of my own.. i've only got one thing corrected on it.. and every other tile is messed up as you can say because of it not looking right.

Okay, it's been awhile since the last post, and I have made a lot of progress. First off, the Emerald and Ruby weapon battles are completely finished now. Lots of small changes have been made, but I'll spare the details. The main reason I'm posting is for a suggestion on a new character in development at the moment: Golbez, who will be replacing Setzer. This is what I have come up with so far: The slot attacks H-Bomb, Chocobop, and 7-Flush will be exchanged for attacks more suited to Golbez's style. The corresponding icons for these attacks will be changed as well...since I'm lacking creativity, I just decided to reuse the diamond icon from 7-Flush for them all (the 7's become red diamonds, choco becomes yellow, airship becomes black/gray...the bars and mega flare icons will stay as they are). With three attacks open, I am looking for any suggestions for Golbez's attacks. I have some pretty cool-looking graphics set aside, but I want to see what the members here can come up with. I was considering opening each of Golbez's new slot attacks with the sword spin from leo's shock, but he would take a step forward for slot, take another step forward for the sword animation, and then only take one step back, leaving him one step ahead of the rest of the party members. After using slot multiple times...well...you can tell where this is heading. If anybody knows a way around this, let me know. One of my favorite animations is below:

Possibly a substitution for the H-Bomb.

This brings me to my last idea: Making Chocobo an esper. It would be simple to do. A would just change one of the esper's spell graphics to chocobop's, although I'd probably spruce it up a bit. This would also let me replace the esper's image with a much smaller one, or delete it altogether, giving me some much-needed space for the incoming 128x128 weapon images. Please leave feedback and/or suggestions.

That pic is PERFECT for the neo-HBomb. And droppig an esper for Chocobop, eh? Well, it wouldnt be an FF without the ability to summon a giant yellow bird! I suggest losing Kirin!

Iron Rain
Just a modified 'Pearl', with iron-colors. Bludgeoning damage. =tongue.gif=
Apocolypse
(this one replaces 777)
This one might be tough. It basically uses the 'Alexander' summon, followed by MASSIVE explosions (I know there's a graphic for this part somewhere). After this, you hear Kefka's laugh, then everything 'cept the party dies.

And, my final one....
Wreckage
Summons two 'Guardian' M-Teks on opposite sides of the screen. Each uses an 'Alexander' style laser.

The issue here is more about not overpowering Golbez with the slot attacks. 7-Flush and Chocobop are very common attacks so to replace them with attacks that...well...deal "bludgeoning damage" would result in Golbez dominating. I'd rather not replace 7-7-7, joker doom, or mega flare since I don't know exactly where it is they're located, but I've got a feeling it requires ASM. Unfortunately, that eliminates the Apocolypse attack (possible desperation attack, though). Iron rain is possible...I might look into that. Of course, it would have some downside; either extremely low success rate, or lowered power...I'll think of something. I'm not exactly sure what you mean by "two guardian M-teks" though. Could you specify?

I had meant the 'bludgeoning damage' quip as a joke. The intended damage rande for that one is about ~2k, if that.
And the Guardian M-Teks are the invincible magiteks that you face- one guards the Thamasa exit during Kefka's assault (this one you cant kill) and the other is the boss after the 3 goddesses, before Kefka, IIRC. Have two appear on opposite sides of the screen, facing the center, then Alexander's beam attack is used.

Ahhh I know which guardian you mean now. I could have one of them appear and do Alexander's attack, but I don't know if it's possible to fit two guardians on the screen at once. This would be a possibility after I make chocobo an esper. I'll make Wreckage an attack on an older copy of my hack and then take a screen shot.

BTW, I don't want this to turn into another discussion between only me and WGG...feel free to jump in anytime, anybody.

Wreckage'll still look cool, though I need to come up with a better name... waitaminute... if you need sprite space.. why not eliminate Alexander altogether, making him into the Wreckage-caster? It'll be a bit earier, more befitting of that type of attack graphic, and... well, look friggin' shweet!

Actually, I just tried that before reading your post. The thing is, Guardian is a little too wide to fit Alexander's dimensions. I tried importing a graphic (if you must know, it was Golbez from when you fight him in FFIV) and ran it. The graphics loaded fine, but Alexander's visor still existed (the flap that drops when he fires the laser is an entirely different sprite...I have no idea where it is located right now). If it wasn't for that, I could easily replace Alexander with an enemy sprite or an imported graphic.

04 01 06 01 05 01 7E 00 E9 11 3B 07 81 08

As 04 01 just shows the beam sweaping across the screen, and 05 01 deals with Alexandr rising (as you've seen when using this graphic, it's the reason for the graphic "glitch"), I'd say that this was hardcoded in 06 01. Anyway, there's no way around hardcoding but to hack ASM, even if it should appear to be in one of the other two graphics (in which the case 05 01 is the most likely as there is some movement-related hardcoding going on in there anyway).

A new idea, Make Magus as Shadow and add in some of Magus's attacks (no Fire 1 & 2, Ice 1 &2, Water 1 & 2, and lightning 1 &2) just give him a special and include Magus- Exclusive attacks (Maybe Omega Flare.) replace the Throw with a command Labeled "Special". Golbez as Setzer would be cool as well.

I thought about making Magus a sprite before, but I never knew who to replace. I might try to resize the images of him I have from CT and see how that works out. However, making a group of Magus-only attacks could be difficult. I have a lot of ideas of possibilities, which I might post a little later, depending on how my experiments go.

One more suggestion...
'Lunatic' esper. Replaces 'Crusader', summons Kefka, who does some sort of painful attack. Teaches Flare, Pearl, and Haste, 1x.

Hmmm...maybe I could replace Crusader, but I don't know about Kefka. Maybe...Chaos from FFI. Plus that'd give me a lot of extra space for the weapons.

GC: I doubt Magus will replace Shadow. So far, there are two custom sprites sharing his palette, and Magus' colors aren't really in that palette. Plus none of the ideas I had for making an additional set of Magus-only abilities worked.
