In order for a monster to appear in the Veldt in the WoR, do I have to have encountered and defeated it in the WoB, or simply encountered it (and possibly have died in mid-battle)? I'm hunting Intangirs, which I kept missing out on in previous games, but I keep getting my ass kicked. sleep.gif;;
Thanks in advance. =)

Well, this is a cheap trick, but have you tried Doom/X-Zone on them? IIRC, Intangirs are already Vanished, so this would be an OHKO attack. Vanish/X-Zone is one of my favorite combos, though it IS quite cheap. If you want to fight them for real, however, I would suggest a team of:
Terra
Sabin
Edgar
Relm
Terra heals, and magics with her strongest spell;
Sabin does his best bllitz;
Edgar spells like crazy/Drills
Relm uses MANY spells.

Haven't learned Doom yet. And this is the third time I've played through the game, but I keep forgetting about the Intangirs. I'll give that a shot once I learn the spell. What I really need to know, though, is whether I need to beat the Intangir for it to appear in the Veldt later, or just encounter it but not necessarily win (i.e. I run away or I get pulverized by Meteo).

Well, a Meteo pulverization wouldnt work at all, as you would croak, and lose all items and stuff. I think you have to beat an Intangir group to unlock it for the Veldt sequence.

Use Gau's Rhodox Rage, he'll eventually use snare, which will save you from getting hit with Meteo counterattack.

Thanks all. I've just been Dooming the Intangirs right and left, and it's kind of funny to watch Setzer (who's the only one who knows it so far) cast Doom then get killed by Meteo and the next minute the rest of the squad starts cheering. =Þ

You do not have to kill them to 'mark' them.
You can run. If you run from a battle successfully, then the monster is marked for Veldt appearance (ie it will appear on the Veldt). Note also: if 3 party members die and the fourth runs away successfully, then the monster will be Veldt-Marked.

I do not know about marking when all 4 members die. I suspect it does not mark the monster.

I really want to get the Retainer "marked" but I forget where to get him. I originally thought he was at the Ancient Castle but I just found Katana Soul instead. I THINK he might be in the colisseum. If so, what item must I wager?

He does appear at the Colloseum (bet a Snow Muffler for a Charm Bangle or a Charm Bangle for a Dragon Horn), but it's not important because fighting them in the Colloseum doesn't mark them. It's the monster formations that are being marked, not the monsters themselves. This is the reason why you can't Rage Chupon or Siegfried, since you can only meet them there.

Knowing the fact that these monsters do have Rages makes you wonder whether or not Square initially wanted monsters in the Colloseum to be marked, but one can't really tell. Regardless, there's a patch that allows these monsters to appear on the Veldt to be found at RPGLegion.com.

Find the Retainer in the final dungeon, Kefka' Tower.

As long as at least one party member survives (either by defeating the monster or running), the monster can appear on the Veldt.
