Anybody know how, or if you can, keep Cid from dying? Do you just have to be really quick with the fish? He died on me, and I actualy cried sad.gif Stupid little yellow pixilated people...

You need to feed him the good fish that swim fast. The slow ones won't do him any good. Just keep feeding him, and if you go down and see only slow fish, go up and down to find fast ones.

Good luck.

Is there any advantage to keeping him alive? Sometimes it takes a while to get good fish. Thanks!

Celes doesn't throw herself from the cliff and Cid is alive for the rest of the game.

There isn't any advantage to keeping him alive or killing him off for that matter. There is a different scene if he dies/lives, and if he lives you can visit him whenever you like later on, but that's it. No difference in the game's ending, no special items, and nothing else like that.

You should't have to wait too long to get the good fish. As long as they aren't very slow I would take them. You don't have to take just the super fast fish, medium fast fish help also increase Cid's health. Incidently, in order to reset the fish in the water you have to actually talk to Cid. Repeatedly leaving and coming back doesn't do anything, no matter how many times you talk to the little bird (like I thought the first time heh...).

I personally like him better dead, because you get that really emotional scene with Celes. I almost cried there.

There's no advantage to keeping him alive.

Yeah, I just posted that first part as a little bit of insight. The second line of my post was really the part that went with the topic.

Have a look at 'Saving Cid' on this site: Terii's Algorithms FAQ. Should answer all your questions.

I thought that feeding him a really slow fish (the ones called "rotten fish" in the item menu) killed him, so it was always better to try to stick with the fastest ones.

There's no way to release a fish once you catch it is there? I remember accidentally catching a crappy fish as a fast one swam by and I couldn't figure out how to remove it from my inventory.

Well, you can toss it in the Garbage Can.

Unfortunately, the Garbage Can is Cid. So no, when you've got a fish, you have no choice but to starve Cid or feed him the thing anyway.

Nope, only an in-game event can remove a key item from your inventory.

yeah same here.
I was using an online walkthrough and had scrolled down *just* far enough to see how to get onto the ship when escaping the floating continent. And I jumped.
Then I scrolled down a smidge farther to see if I had waited, Shadow would escape with me. XD
Then I accidentally killed Cid.
I felt like some sort of pixel-killing monster. sleep.gif

Murderer! ohmy.gif

Actually, I never knew I could save Cid either, until I saw a topic here on the forums. ^-^; I'd been killing him over and over, even giving him the raw fish on purpose 'cause I thought it was the only way.

Poor Cid! Everyone seems to want him dead because the cinematic scene is more dramatic if he dies (and it's less time-consuming to let him die). Shame on you all!

Hahaha, Listen to us. We purposely let a kindly old man die so we can watch another person atempt suicide. I guess anyone who plays this game can't be too squemish about death though.

*Gets a mental picture of Cid running around the island chasing the bird around and flapping his arms, yelling "Fly my pretty! Fly!"* Yeah it probably is better for him to die peacefully in bed. What I don't get is if he lives, why doesn't he come stay on your airship or something? Ah well.

And yes, Cid wasn't Celes's biological grandfather, she just asked him if she could call him Grandpa for sentimental reasons.

Just think he is alot better off dead! he could of played dress up with celes or turned her into a puppet or something. maybe put her in a dress and sat her at the table and pretended that she was having tea with him! I know it sounds crazy but its just a thought!

Somehow I doubt that Cid would stay on the island after the world is saved, so it's not like he has nothing to live for. Frankly, with all the peril and despair in all the other villages in the WoR the solitary island might not be such a bad place to stay before Kefka is defeated. Come to think of it, Duncan seemed to hold just up fine in his house alone for an even longer time than Cid, and Duncan didn't even know if any of his loved ones were still alive.

Hmmm... Wouldn't you think that if Duncan's wife knew Duncan was alive, that he would know she was too? Unless his wife has a six sense about this stuff, or she heard about it from someone else...

Perhaps when training his students Duncan imparted to them all a ability to sense things. Also if you brought back Sabin to South Figaro before you went to Returner HQ and talked to Duncan's wife then you would know she cared for a lot of his students as her own sons. While doing so perhaps the sixth sense thing rubbed off on her?
