Continue the Fanfic!

This is a fairly simple and , for once, productive game. Inspired by similar games like ‘Three Word storys’ This is basically the same as those in that one poster puts up part of the story, then the next puts up the following chapter. The ultimate aim is to build up a collaborative fic that will eventually be submitted to CoN’s fan fiction pages. Due to this aim, the posts here must follow these guidelines and rules…

1: Seven Hundred Words Minimum. Probably.

Pretty much self explanatory: we can’t have a whole fic made up of 100 word chapters. But as a guideline, a longer chapter would be preferred and give you more room to play with.

2:no great alterations without consulting others involved

Its not going to be much fun for those involved if, just after the epic battle between the Baronian army and the Demon Army, that Edge and Rydia go shopping and are ambushed by Badgers, Badger, Badgers, Mushrooms, Snakes, Peanut Butter Jelly, and Spase Peepole in the frozen goods section

3: Relevance is not an option, its mandatory
Try to have it make some sense, 007... We can’t have it suddenly swap from Baron surrounded by Space Elves to the middle of Eblan, with all the characters transported there with no explanation. An possible exception to this is if you wish to branch off to look at other characters not mentioned yet in the story, for instance, say Palom and Porom haven’t been seen, but they’ve been mentioned: you could write about them trying to get to Baron to join up with the others.

4: Extensions are okay… with planning permisson
If you feel the previous chapter was too short and its your allocation (see below) you can PM or otherwise contact the previous writer and ask to extent their chapter.

5: Allocation Allocation Allocation!
We can’t have anyone just post up and risk upsetting the balance. And as such, theres two categories you fall into…
previous offender writer: if you’ve already written a Fic that’s been accepted to CoN, when its your turn, you just write it up and post it.
New Blood: if you want to try your hand at a chapter, throw your name into the list of Participants. However, since you have no previous works on CoN , you must first get approval from either Myself, a Moderator who specifically expressed a confirmable statement of willingness to check over a chapter, or a “Wisepersons Committee” of 3 or more previous posters who approve by Majority Vote if your chapter is good enough.

Note that any ONE of these three can result in it being OK'd. Order of Priority is Me-2/3 vote-mod. IE: a Mod can overturn all, 2/3 can overturn me


Allocation will be decided randomly by myself for next chapters from a list of people who have put their name down. If you liked a persons chapter, and enough people PM me or contact me saying that Person Y’s Chapter X rocked, then the randomness might not be so random…

Of course, this bits not carved in stone: certain people may wind up in a category they wouldn't be in: EG some people have started fics, and so, will be classed as previous writers, but only if its good, or, they're ZH and threaten to kill me otherwise... *

6: If you need to decline , say so
If, for some reason, when you get the draw, you can’t do it in what you feel a reasonable timescale , please inform me so I can give the chapter to another.

7: All you base are belong to me (or the mods)

By putting your name down you acknowledge that I, and/or the Staff of CoN, reserve the right to reject your chapter for the final fic no matter what category you fall into. If you feel this is unfair, in the first case (me) , compalin to a mod. In the latter, er .. Run?

In additon, the fic as a whole is the property of CoN, but your sections are yours. As such, this means you could take your chapter(s) and build another fic around it/them, but you must point out that this/these chapter(s) have been used as part of a collaborative effort on CoN in addition to your use of them

A note about the pole: it does not include 6 for the reasons that 6 has already had a few fics, and this idea was designed to not only get multiple people involved, but try and expand the fanfic sections of other games CoN covers .

Well, i had a few ideas of possible plots, and, since it looks like an FF4 one, lets look at them... and take note that they can all be twisted around. these are jsut skeltons. MogMaster (or MoogleGenocide as he's called on Chat) , for instance, just helped me improve one in a chat PM.

An Ancient power is revived: the usual. Man digs up stone, stone awakens army of evil sjkeletons/robots/monkeymen statues or something.

Mars Somewhere Attacks!: Lunarians, Martians, whatever. the token alien invasion idea. not one i'd want, BTW.

meteorite impacts somehwere, unleashing many beasties : either ripping off FF: Spirits within (but doing the plot better) or FF5 (sorta) or FF7, a failry simple one i think.

A secret society which has power worldwide decides to do something: either cecil steps out of line , or something, but something forces them to play thier hand. and whats worse is, they could be anyone... a potentially complex conspiracy fic that could be very sweet. the one me and MG just enhanced from my old idea.

cult obtains some magic thingy wot can kill lots of folks another simple one.

cult kidnaps someone important to cecil and holds them to ransom: kind of obvious, too.

sudden climate change starts an ice age err, ignore this >_>

These are just ideas of mine, and you can put up your own plot idea, either orginal, or . ideally, some sort of plot that everyone likes would be best...

Also, whats everyones views on slipping a few extra towns into FF4? surely the whole Baronian army wasn't recruited from five houses and an inn?!

I like the conspiracy one, but I also throw in my vote for a totally zany, off-the-wall comedy fic, either using one of these plots as a base or making up something else. Methinks we need more of 'dem. ^_-

Yeah I'd go for a comedic version of which ever game wins.

I initially didn't want to participate because I held the opinion that some styles would clash too much. I still stand by that decesion, but if it's going to be a humor fanfic, that I'd like to join in.

However, I think we could get the most satisfaction out of a multi-writer, humorous fanfic if we didn't discuss the plot at all. Leaves more room for "Phew...that was one nutty dream, wasn't it honey? Honey? Why have you grown another leg overnight?" plot-twists.

Looks like a humor ideas popular....im sure we can work this to everyones advantage though. Maybe both could be done collaborative, as there will be a lot of time wehre everyone but one persons not working on a chapter.

If anything, 8 bit Theator is an excellent example how characters who are completely stupid/lame/humorous/etc. can be in a story that is enjoyable for the story itself as well. If we all could aim for both aspects of the story simultaneously, then we could work some wonders.

IF we do a good job, that is.

Looks like FF4 with a secret society reviving an aincient power for the main fic. Possibly.

I think we may be having a mixed perspective: IE, some chapters will be 3rd person, some will be 1st, it depends on whatever the writer wants to do...

On the subject of a humour one, who would be willing to do the funny one as well as the serious one? I want a serious one but think i'm a far better comedian than dramatist. And there will be much time waiting on other people before your next tuurn at a chapter in the serious one.

So lets resolve this, and see if we can allocate chapter orders for the first round by the 5th!

• We should all agree to do one single perspective and tense, or it'll get confusing and inconsistent. I don't care which one we do, though, I can give any style a shot.

• I'd be up for a dual fic, one serious and one not-so-serious, but it's a good and a bad thing, 'cause it means twice the workload... Again, I don't really care which way we swing, but I'd prefer to be doing one single fic, since I have about a dozen others things on the side I like to keep up with.

Hi.

I just picked up Final Fantasy V and Final Fantasy VI Japan for Play Station 1.

I was thinking about doing another Final Fantasy project involving the Power Rangers from Mighty Morphin through Space Patrol Delta.

This would be an 11 team cross over but it would still be Final Fantasy.

Power Rangers Space Patrol Delta's Rangers will be included.

My project might take place prior to Final Fantasy XII for Play Station 2 next year in 2005.

This will be Final Fantasy XI the Novel.

Ooooook..... Anyways I think we should do just one Fic. And I would rather have it be a humorous fic than a dual fic. It would get too confusing IMO.

I'm not too sure if Kochanskie is pimping off his own stuff or if he's trying to suggest something. Either way, I think we should just get right down to laying out who's doing what in which order, and then set a start date.

well, the "official" one (the one done as the main collaborative one) will be serious, but i think the humour one will just be done by the few who want it. And not be as moderated...

And RE Kochanskie's post: That's not relevant here I'm afraid. An FF4/Power Rangers fic is not being done here...

Prologue
Myths and Legends are present in every age of every society. Even in today’s times. There is an intriguing modern myth of a secret society, present worldwide, at all levels of government. They are in the armed forces, they are in the city guard, they are in Parliaments, they are rulers of nations, all puppets to a grand master. Each myth invariably refers to this cult by many names: Sons of Lunaria, The Illuminated, The Shining Ones, or simply, The Sect. The leader’s are called The Priests Of whatever deity the cult is alleged to serve, or The Circle, or The Star Kin, or many other names. But there are often claims of a leader, or a deity they worship. Most popular of these is Razpos.

Razpos, for instance, in Silverian legend, was god of the night, of war and of death. His followers used a sign of the delta, at each point, a representation of their gods aspects. A star, a sword, and a skull. The number held sacred by these cultists was the number three, but special significance was held over the number 27: 3 times 3 times 3. The temple of the Delta had sacrifices to the god: a sacrificial chamber of three pits at the point of the triangular temple, where a victim would be thrown in.

The Night pit contained creatures of the shadows, and sacrifices were made at the dead of night, every night. It is said it's shadowed depths were lit by coverable mirrors in the daytime, in order for the priests to clean away the bodies of the dead, whatever state they were in (still human or otherwise) and that the dead would scream from the walls if you entered in Daylight with the mirrors covered.

The War pit was a simple pit: the victim would face a soldier-guard of the temple, and if he won, would be granted freedom. In the event of war, prisoners were sacrificed, and if they won, were executed by archers. These sacrifices occurred daily during war, or at the end of the month in peacetime.

The Death Pit was in fact a maze, laden with deadly traps. In the middle, was an exit. Once a year, at the new year, 100 criminals, prisoners of war, or volunteers would enter. If one of the former exited first, he won his freedom. If the latter exited, he won a grand prize of gold. Either way, the exit would be sealed, and various monsters unleashed in the maze. 99 died each year in this, without fail: if 2 exited together, they had to fight to the death to decide the winner.

In addition, there are further myths about Razpos. Claims of a living avatar of him, created by the sacrifice of a 27 year old born on the 3rd day of the 3rd month every 27 years. The sacrifice would become the avatar, for the next 27 years. Gender was irrelevant: to Razpos and his followers, male and female were nothing more than a means of reproduction. It is claimed this avatar had the powers expected of a living god: able to kill with a glance, change any substance into another, create things from the air, perform the most devastating magic's. And able to incite war and conflict whenever it wished, bring nightfall whenever it wished.

It is believed a knight called Alexander stopped the Avatar of Razpos. The knight, a Paladin, managed to get his army to the temple on an island south of Silveria, and fought their way in. In combat, Alexander destroyed the Avatar, and prevented his re-summoning for nine hundred and ninety nine years by sacrificing his own soul to keep the god re-manifesting.

If there is indeed a cult worshipping this blood-drenched god, its activities are lessened. However, every new years eve, people disappear. Without fail, in the past 10 years, scholars have found reports of at least 100 people going missing worldwide every new years eve. And most curiously, during the later half of the coronation year of King Cecil and Queen Rosa , on the 5th day after new year, a Baronian naval vessel reported an unidentified ship via carrier pigeon. The ship was lost contact with after that, and a search found it floating off the coast of Baron, its crew dead by Baronian blades, all but nine men, missing. The captain had the sign of a triangle cut in his forehead.

It is a curious myth. This conspiracy is naturally denied by those in power. King Cecil says he has seen no evidence for anything like a secret society. Many conspiracy theorists think he a part of it.
The truth is, he is as clueless as those not a part of the cult. They remain hidden, unless they wish to reveal themselves to you. Any who find out of them die. If you do not stay silent about them, you and all you told will die. They have eyes everywhere, ears everywhere. The cult is rumoured to be organised upon the number 3, in honour of their god, and operate in 3's or multiples of. A Coven is a sub-unit of 3, a cabal 3 covens, 3 cabals a sect, and an order 3 sects. It is claimed there are 27 orders.

Border Guard Captain Ronald Haines had received his regular military orders, but today, had also received something special. He burnt the second letter, under the watching eyes of his Lieutenant , Jack Fletcher, and a Sergeant, Cedric Smith.
“Well, Brothers, we have the order. The games are to commence.” said Haines.
“Indeed, Brother Haines. Brother-High Priest Otwalar is setting off to free the Forbearers?” Smith said.
“Indeed, Brother Smith. We must keep the unilluminated blind. We shall do this on tonight’s patrol with Damcyan’s border.” Fletcher said. He knew the coven across the border had similar orders.

The patrol's marched their route's, unaware that Smith and his squad had worked their way across the border to Damcyan soil. The Sergeant , and one of three Warlocks in the coven, had tricked his own men into believing they were still in Baron. And their route had them encounter one of the Damcyan patrols in a forest. With the stars hidden, none of the Baronians truly knew if they were in Baron. But their sergeant said they were.
"A Damcyan patrol! On OUR soil!" hissed Smith.
"Sir, perhaps they're lost?" said the Corporal.
"Aye, lost! Going to be 'lost' to life if they don't leave our nation!"
"Sir, we should address them..." the Corporal continued, staring at the sky to try to see through the canopy above for some star. Meaning that he failed to see the sergeant twist his sword to catch the thin streams of moonlight three times, and failed to note the enemy sergeant's identical actions. But he did hear the yell of the Damcyan, did hear the report of bowstrings being released a hundred or so yards away , snapped his head towards the Damcyan's, saw the shapes ahead moving and felt the impact of the arrow's in his chest. The sergeant stared , seemingly shocked at the fletching sticking from his man's chest. The screams of other men pierced the corporal's fading vision, and the noise of further firing , from his side , was the last he heard as the forest canopy above turned totally black...

The Baronians had lost few men to the panicked arrow fire after the Damcyan warlock/sergeant had cried fire. The sergeant was now himself fleeing the area, leaving his men to fight the remaining Baronians, his brother-warlock leading them. The return fired from the Baronian army had been more accurate, dropping at least five of his men. the quartet of survivors were set upon by the Baronians, outnumbered almost two to one.

The sergeant turned to the senior Private, and screamed his orders:
"You and three others: signal arrows! Under Attack, and Wounded Men signals! Repeat every minute for ten minutes!"

Seeing the Signals, the Captain ordered his Platoon's to go forth, and secure the borders, whilst a messenger made haste to the nearest city. Pikemen, Bowmen, and Light Cavalry, leaving the three cannon crews at the barracks with some local Militiamen. Ten minutes after the skirmish, Baronian troops were surging around the border, attacking the Damcyan's en mass, three to one at least. The Damcyan patrols were mainly young rookies, and never stood a chance against Baronian counterparts, who, whilst of similar age and experience, had the element of surprise in their favour initially. But the skirmishes were heading for full battle, as Damcyan signal arrows flew up...

By morning, the battle had halted, men on both sides having killed their "enemy", and in the confusion of the battle, friendly casualties had occurred, but the fact remained: neither border guard regiment was able to fight, and had to withdraw to their own barracks , preparing to defend against the other sides reinforcements, who, neither side doubted, had not participated in the earlier battles in order to confuse their defensive efforts. They knew the enemy's entire army was hiding just behind the border, at the barracks of the other border guard, probably.

The Baronian Border Guard reported the Damcyan attack upon their men, citing that reason for the border seizure. Damcyan denied it had attacked, claiming Baron had sent its troops over the border without provocation. As the armies of both sides began fortifying the borders, Ambassadors from Damcyan were sent to Baron via Mist, by the order's of the Damcyan Minister of State.

At Mist, the people who had arrived following its destruction, received a message from the head of the Order.
The Minister of State told his followers the exact route of the Damcyan’s.
Notes

• The society always operates and travels in three's or multiples thereof
• The distraction is obvious: other cultists in other nations will soon start wars in "the games". This could be but the whole world needs to be fighting before the cult can reallyrecover the stuff in relative peace:
• While i was writing that thing about the temple, the words 'boy, this would be a cool place for cecil or someone to barge into to save someone or fight the enemy!' were running through my head. is it just me ?
• the cult may try and bump off people who get in the way. Cecil, for instance...
• but other than that, i hope everyone else can take liberties with events , plot, and characters.

27th of June: Changed a line from 'They are in the army, they are in the navy, ' to 'They are in the armed forces, they are in the city guard', 28th of June: "Mild" Expansion...29th, removed a few possibly needless parts, fixed spelling, and mad eit easier to read!

I'm going out of town on Wednesday and I'll be back the following Tuesday. If that's going to interfere with the time frame for the first chapter, perhaps you could switch my order with someone else's?

I like the prologue. I still vote for serious over funny. Most people think they can write funny, but they don't always have an accuate understanding of how they'll come off to someone else who can't see inside their head. I think it's easier to write funny stuff, but it's easier to write serious stuff well.

I just realized that the fifth of July is next Monday, and that's by when Del S is aiming to have the prologue finished. So never mine. It's all cool.
