I think he is a good challange, but he is a bit hard. I'm on my second play through of the game and currently I'm leveling up to try and beat him. I'm trying to teach all my characters Auto Potion and x-potion. They are quite necessary if you want to beat him.

Velius can damage you up to over 300+ damage. It is quite challenging indeed. I lost to him 5 times.

Well, the first time I played FFT I thought he was too strong...

But everytime I play the game again he doesn't deserve to be a member of the Zodiac.

The way to beat him is use a summoners, lancers, and priests.

All Zodiac members are weak against Liche, the lancers can escape the dark holy, and Cyclops and countinue to attack its jumps on Velius especially when he's charging, the priests can just do holy on Velius.

[SPOILER]I found him just right becuase all you needed to do is get rid of the ARCHAICIC DEMONS thumbup.gif And not be clustered.

I found velius strong but not as strong as Elidibs in THE END with the 9 APANDAS which were easy with one hit of Lightning stab by orlandu because the came down one at a time

My Way of defeating him is probably the easiest, you level up around level 35, master Knight, and engineer, get a red chocobo, master summoner and get rid of the Archaicic Demons, ps. d'ont cluster your characters, for it will only draw the demons and velius to use dark holy, Clops and other summons.

I think he is just right, I love the challenge that bosses like that beat, especially when it makes you fight to level up, it makes it more interesting. Not to mention FFT in general made me think more than any other one did. Strategy!

Since he is beatable, I'd have to say he isn't too strong. However, he is definitely very powerful and does take some strategy and a bit of luck.

Velius is a tough cookie to beat. And challenging enough his attacks can kill with one hit. Well, my straedgy on this one? Leveling up would be nice. I remember my squad was in the 75-80 range, I had two lancers that held the "two hands" support ability skill and did major damage to him. Plus Ramza had the two swords skill. Did about 300 damage. (Sorry, I'm boasting abit!) I know leveling up is tireing and tedious, but it all works out in the end. =)

Well I'd say he isn't TOO hard...he's not easy or anything but I wouldn't call it a great challenge. I voted just right.

Velius... It's strange, when he first summons his deamons I always find Ramza taking two or three turns in a row. Plenty of time to kill Veilus.Of course, you can buy bracer at that point which makes the battle much easier.

Are you sure about being able to buy the Bracer before you face Velius? I thought you could only ger a Power Wrist at this point in the game. unsure.gif

LOL...

The sex hater thinks Velius is "easy". I love it. laugh.gif

Velius is a very decent challenge at the point in the game at which you meet him, unless you've done some power leveling or use the auto-potion/move-HP up/yell shtick, which as someone already stated isn't very chivelrous.

Yeah i was on the brink of screaming by the time i finally beat him... I used the yell/accumulate tactic (which i was trying to avoid since it would level Ramza up way above my other characters... i try to keep them balanced)

It was still really hard to avoid his lightning stab when i was running around accumulating... pinch.gif

hes easy if you can silence him. lightning stab works wonders biggrin.gif ! lancers, archers, and chemists/engineers w/ guns work well also.

I just fought him this past weekend with my FFVI tribute team. Ramza is named Sabin, and is a monk with guts, Blade Grasp, Two Swords, and Move +3. My first turn i reached Weigraf and was blocked on the first attack, hit for 189 on the second. He lighting stabbed me and I went critical. Next turn I got behind him and hit him with both punches to off his sorry butt. When Velius came, Sabin hit twice, then Shadow, my ninja, got him twice, then Locke, my thief, finished him off. I thought it would be harder.... I got extremely lucky with landing both attacks on Weigraf on my second turn, or I woulda been toast.

Velius can be very easy if you have razma use guts ablility...then use yell to up his speed to where he gets up to 5 turns...or he can be difficult and annoy the piss out of you with his short cast and clops

I'm with Hamedo's tactics on this one. I always make my leader a monk with two swords and throw in a couple ninjas. I definitely don't think velious is too hard as more often than not i have more trouble with wiegraf.

I think Velius is just right and gives a pretty easy game a little challenge.

I think the fact that you have to save right before him is terrible for new gamers. Really ruined the game the first time. Second time I got to Level 70 and owned him. Third time was a corrupted save.

But I think it's a good way to end the second/third (don't remember) chapter.. though an Easy/Normal option would have been better for first-timers.

LVL70? that's power-leveling before velius. Normally you should be lvl30 and able to beat him

Well, to each his own. The first time I ever played FFT and reached Velius, I got burned by not backing up just prior to the battle, so I can certainly understand wanting to be prepared the next time around.

All told, though, Velius is not a pansy. Nor is he insurmountable. He is a very good challenge at the point in the game in which you face him.

Yes. This time through I'm trying it with Ramza as a Knight with Punch Art, Dragon Spirit, Two Swords, and Move+3. However, to get Move+3 without some major leveling up is going to be tough.. or I could just do Move+2. Either way.

Power leveling bard? in my solo game I gained 3 lvls as bard as I had enough JP to be master (around 4000JP), and anyway I didn't have move +3 at that time, a job with 4 move + germinas boots + move +2 makes it... 7 Move is quite good.
A trick To not gain too much levelss with bard isnt yell/accumulate..
I was able to wipe out 3 chocobos, 2 Goblins, 1 red panther with only 1 bard.
Must say it was quite hard expecially when i was draining 150 hp per hit and the chocobos were healing themselves 105-129 HP with choco cure... I used for 3-4 rounds accumualte just to boost a bit my strengh but is wasnt too useful and I hadn't a good reaction ability(sunken state with a bard isn't useful) but suprise, I found out how to calculate bard's harp damage: (MA + PA)/2 x WP (accumulate wasnt too handly)

If you find him so hard there is a trick:
Magic defense UP
Counter Magic
Stuff to protect Vs Petrify and otehr bad statuses

If he casts Cyclops on you, you will Cast Cycloips on him, wich sould get rid of his Ultima demons very fastly..

I don't know If 5 black mages with what I said could kill him in a round

Mm, good old Velius. Probably the wussiest Zodiac monster when taken by himself. Of course, his support makes things... reasonably interesting. All you really need, though, is 9 Speed on Ramza, which is easily attainable at any point after level 18 with classes that can equip hats...
