Does anyone know what the chances are for goblins and Rilmarders to drop the Goblin item; Cocktices, Dive Eagles, and RudranBabies to drop the Cocktric item; DkGrenades and RemedyBombs to drop the Bomb item; MindFlayers to drop the Mindflay item? I have never been able to get any of these items, and I want a complete game.

If I remember correctly, it's a 1/64 chance for all after each battle.

Oh, man. Be sure to tell us what FFIV does when the clock maxes.
Wait... define "complete game." Yes, it is 1/64. I don't think all those drop the Cockatrice Summon, so just go after Cockatrices. I'm not sure about Rilmarders, but I did get an Imp summon on my IIus cartridge in the Antlion cave, so you might want to try going after plain ol' Goblins. Yes, I do think those were the things that drop the Bomb Summon. You're going to need a ton of Alerts to get those Mindflayers. They don't appear that often. Every item would be impossible, since there are major space limitations. You would have to use the Fat chocobo. And how many of each item? You can have an infinite amount of most items. Plus two items were dummied out of all versions of the game. I was looking for his defenition of "complete game," since the defenition varies from person to person. -------------------- "I had to write four novels before they let me write comic books." -Brad Meltzer |

My definition of a complete game would be to get at least one of every item, weapon, armor, etc. as well as every spell, and have everyone's level maxed out. (if this isn't possible, like how in FF VI you can't have both the cursed shield and paladin shield at the same time in the same game, then at least as complete as the game allows). BTW, thanks guys.

Well, if you're doing all that, then if you passed Mist you already messed up.
You said max levels; does that also mean max stats? Above Lv70, Stat growth isn't fixed, so you have to watch it as you level. Go to "Maximum Statistics Guide" by CronoLv99 for a better explaination: http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/snes/game/8999.html Since your characters who return gain exparience based off of Cecil, you would have to max them out as soon as you get them. Or Max out DK Cecil before Tella leaves, then have Paladin Cecil dead until Kain comes back for the last time. The only items you won't be able to have are story items (Package/BombRing, Crystals, Keys), Pan&Cleaver/Spoon, and Legend Sword+Rat's tail and Excalbur. You would also need to get two PinkTails. Quote (l)arkShadow @ 12th June 2004 20:26) outta all the 1000 imps i killed, none have dropped the imp summon. It's the Goblin Summon, not the Imp. No, those summons aren't myths. The problem is that your chances of getting the item are 1/64 when the enemy actually drops an item, I don't know what the actual odds are of a Goblin dropping any item at all, but you have to figure that you might have to fight a lot more thatn 64 to get the item. -------------------- Don't worry, I'm not going to garrote you. |

Quote (l)arkShadow @ 12th June 2004 21:26) to get a complete game, simply just duplicatte an excalbur I'm not sure what you mean by this. Just because you you kill 64 imps, it doesn't mean you will get the Imp Summon. If you use a Game Genie, you can see that these Summons DO exist. They weren't left out like the Assassin Dagger or the HandAxe either. The rare summons are hard to get. I've always read that the Imp summon (and the original US translation does call it that, if I recall correctly) is dropped at the 1/64 rate. I've gotten it maybe twice in all the years that I've been playing the game.
The Cockatrice summon is dummied out of the original US release. I'm not sure if you can get it in Chronicles or not, but you can use a Game Genie to put it in your inventory with the item switch code. It's one of the name items named "dummy." You can also get a Bomb summon and a Mage summon as rare drops. I think the Bomb summon is dropped at different rates by different encounters, and that the one in the moon has the highest rate. (Anything about rates of item-dropping is based on material I've seen online; I've never tried to calculate it myself. I have, however, managed to get the rare summons by myself, and the dummied summon with a game genie.) I think the idea of going for a complete game is fun. There are a lot of lesser-known items that are dropped by some of the monsters, and it's kinda neat just to have them, even if you have to use the Big Chocobo to store them. -------------------- Veni, vidi, dormivi. |

I seem to remember it was actually the Red Caps that dropped the 'Imp' summon. I've gotten it a few times, twice in one game once in fact, never intentionally. It's always been in the area outside of Mysidia.

I usually get the Goblin summon without realizing it while heading to Mist from Baron. On the other hand, I usually kill several hours in battles before obtaining the Cockatrice summon even though they all apparently have the same drop rate.
Oh, and according to an item list I read recently, the Cockatrice summon is present in the Chronicles version. -------------------- Words of Wisdom: If something can go wrong, it will. I just thought of something:
When trying to get the Imp/Goblin Summon, go to the Path to the Land of Summoned monsters and look for a Conjuror that Summons Imps/Goblins, and only kill the monster it summons. -------------------- "I had to write four novels before they let me write comic books." -Brad Meltzer |
