Lately, I've been on this subject a lot. I'm going next weekend to peirce my nipple, and later on, I plan on getting a tattoo or two. I was wondering if anyone here has any peircings in places other than their earlobes, or even any tattoos, and if not, why? If you could peirce something, or tattoo something onto yourselfs, what would you have done? Would it have some kind of meaning to you, or would it be just for the hell of it. What do you guys think body mod?
Personally, I'm more partial towards tattoos than to peircings, but peircings cost less so they're easier to do. A lot more maitenance though. Sometimes, people overdo it massively, like with libido peircings, or peircing the webbings between your index finger and thumb, and such, but I also think certain peircings on certain people looks fine. I'm peircing my nipple with a friend, as a friendship thing, because she's moving in two weeks, and school is almost over, so I probably won't ever see her again, so to remember each other, we're both peircing our left nipples. Odd, but hey, strange things for strange people. I'm also planning on having Black Angel wings, done lifesized tattooed on my back, because of I have an odd attraction to angels, despite the fact that I am a totally non religious person. Also, I tend to write a lot of lyrics on the theme of angels, and music is a big thing to me, so the wings represent the freedom in music. It's going to be expensive as hell, and painful, but I'm game. So again, what about you guys? -------------------- Okay, but there was a goat! |

Next month when I turn 18 I'm gonna go get my lebret (spelling?) pierced, and when my sister comes down to visit from Virginia I'm gonna go with her and get little brother tatooed on my arm in Japanese and she is going to ger older sister.

Well, DF, you know how I am, even though I only have my lobes done right now (still two on the left, one on the right - I had to let my left helix grow shut because it was not done well). I'm seriously thinking about having a tragus done soon, and I too would like to have a nipple done but probably never will because my wife's not crazy about the idea.
As for tattoos, I too have a thing for religious iconography even though I'm not religious in the traditional sense either. You probably missed the tribal angel tattoo I designed a few months ago. I'll post it at the end of this message. I would get a tattoo but no place immediately visible - I don't think I want to deal with people professionally having a visible tattoo until I know what I'm doing for the rest of my life. I also have no clue what I would want. My wife wants one soon, that I assume I'll be designing for her. I designed a daisy for her last year that we never had done, I dunno if she wants it still or wants something else. She might get the celtic knot I drew for our wedding, I dunno. Anyway, here's my angel: ![]() -------------------- "To create something great, you need the means to make a lot of really bad crap." - Kevin Kelly Why aren't you shopping AmaCoN? |

A few years ago, I had a tattoo done on my right, outer ankle. It's the kanji for Dragon, in black, surrounded by blue and white swirls that form the pattern of a blue flame. Not very big, 2.5 inches high and 1 inch wide.
I chose it for a few reasons. One, I love languages and words, and wanted to have something that represented something other than English, and the alphabet that I'm familiar with (a, b, c, etc). (it also seemed that everyone else was getting a kanji tattoo, after a while. Rubicant, for example, has a kanji tattoo on his arm. I think he also got his before everyone jumped on the bandwagon.) Two, I love dragons and fantasy books in general. I'm currently working on a fantasy/adventure novel. Three, I really just connected with this imagery, and I love the colour blue. I want to get another tattoo sometime, but I'm not sure about the what and where yet. For piercings, I have the usual (for girls) piercing in each ear lobe, and when I was in junior high, I had my nose pierced (stud, not ring). I used to have a second piercing in my left lobe, but it healed over. -------------------- I had an old signature. Now I've changed it. |

I'm not going to go off about tattoos and peircings being "evil" somehow, I just don't like them. Though some tattoos are better than others, they all strike me as being somewhat assymetrical or out of place (same with peircings). To me, they're like additions to something with is already perfect; as though a perfect version of Pachebel's Canon is D major had to suffer the addition of five electric guitars (not that I have anything against electric guitars, they would just be incongrous with the style of music).
The human body (even those thought to be "ugly") seems to me to have a certain perfection in it's proportions. I like the way my body looks, and have no fasination with trying to add to it... some of my brothers have different ideas, though. As they put it "You body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, it's up to you to decorate it." |

If you like the way the body looks, then great. Though beauty is in the eye of the beholder. You're right in that, in some cases, with some people, it just shouldn't be done. I don't see the point in a 50 year old woman getting her belly peirced just to feel young again, but then again, it's entirely the person's decision.
R51: That angel design is really sick. If you ever get something like that done, I'd HAVE to see pictures. If you wouldn't want one in a visible place, try your back. Unless you plan on going around shirtless for extended periods of time...then it could be a problem. Tragus peircing ey? I know someone that just had that done, but it rejected, which is never a fun experience. -------------------- Okay, but there was a goat! |

I am getting a tattoo of a sleeping fox on my right forearm, my left having a sort of 'scale' pattern, and a fox-morph on my back.

I don't think I would ever get any kind of body-peircing or body-art. That kind of stuff is irriversable so you not only have to have no doubt now but in the future as well. It changes the whole way you are preveived. Well, theres my two cents.

It's not all irreversible. Most piercing holes (with the exception of the kind that makes a dime-sized hole...gauging?) will vanish after time. You couldn't tell that I had ever pierced my nose within a few weeks of me taking out the stud for good (I had it for a year) and the second hole in my left ear is no longer visible.
You can also get tattooes removed, but it's a little pricey. This post has been edited by Elena99 on 28th May 2004 00:51 -------------------- I had an old signature. Now I've changed it. |

I thought about getting a tattoo when I was younger but decided not to as I would probably regret it later in life. As for piercings, I would never NEVER get any piercings cause I think guys should not have them. I do not like too much body art on people. One of my theories is to never trust a girl with a tattoo or a guy with piercings. But that is my opinion so I will leave it at that.

I want to get the kanji for my screen name tattooed somewhere, though I don't know where (by the way, it translates to "angel/demon"). I've had a design idea bouncing around in my head for awhile, but seeing as I have absolutely no artistic skills whatsoever, I'd have to describe it to someone and have them draw it for me.
I also want to get my ear pierced. Nothing radical, but hey.... P.S.: that is an awesome angel design, R51. i tattooed the word "shine" on my left wrist with a needle, thread, cigarette ashes, graphite and floor polish when i was 15. kind of like a "pick me up" when i was feeling a little down, but i got it removed a couple of months ago. wasnt really a good thing, wasnt really a bad thing, i just didnt want it there anymore. im turned off by a tattoo on a girl though, it just doesnt excite me for some reason.
and not to sound like your dad, but before you get a tattoo, make sure you want it there forever, because though you can get it removed, its a pain in the ass. and be careful with your piercings, you dont want them getting infected, just make sure you take good care of them for a while. good luck man. -------------------- You watch the world exploding every single night Dancing in the sun, a newborn in the light Say goodbye to gravity and say goodbye to death Hello to eternity and live for every breath Your time will come... |

The wings, I would want there forever. It's something that can have multiple meanings to me, so it's something I'd do without any doubt at all. Peircing care is relatively new to me, but a lot of my friends have plenty, so I can always turn to them. It's seemingly more and more common to see guys with peircings. I don't see a problem with it at all, really to each his own, and if a guy wants to peirce a part of his body, he can. Same for women. Depending on the location of the tattoo, and what is tattooed, I think a tattoo on women is a turn on, but that's just me. Girls with tongue peircings make my life worth living. S'all I have to say about that. I've seen guys with belly peircings, something I didn't figure I'd ever see, but strangely enough, it looked fine. It was a spider shaped peircing that covered his bellybutton...though he had to gauge the hole a bit to fit it in, which probably wasn't a pleasant experience. Gauging holes takes forever to heal, but it does heal. The skin becomes worn, rinkly and scarred though, which isn't fun to look at, so if you're thinking of guaging large sizes, be sure you can live with it. -------------------- Okay, but there was a goat! |

Heh, I think that stuff is silly. When I see tattoos and piercings I think of how they don't flow with the body at all. They're so unnatural and it all looks so out of place to me.
Quote (Dragon_Fire) I was wondering if anyone here has any peircings in places other than their earlobes, or even any tattoos, and if not, why? I really don't think most people look at tattoos or piecings on someone and think "wow that looks nice". I had a discussion about this with my co-workers the other day. Quote (i90east @ 28th May 2004 21:10) Can tattoos and piercings be tasteful? Ehhhhhhh... Sorry, I wanted to get back to this sooner but never got around to it. I honestly think tattoos and peircings can be tasteful, depending on where, the jewelry worn, or the image presented. It's all in how it's presented really. Where I to get the tattoos on my back, you'd never know it was there unless you'd see me shirtless, which is a rare occasion. That tattoo isn't a security thing, it's just a testament on my body of who I am and what I believe in, at this point in my life. Some people peirce things for the rush, some for attention, some because they think it'll make them cool, or pretty. Sure it's not always right, but I mean, it's really up to the person. Same why you don't really have to like the peircing of ink done. By the way, I'm going this saturday to get my nipple done. Wish me luck ![]() -------------------- Okay, but there was a goat! |

First of all, Good luck DF!
Second, I do believe in body modification, although, like most people, I aggree that you have to be careful about it. For me, I have alot of tattoos planed. I'm going to get a cross on my right forearm and on my left bicep (different crosses) a celtic band around my left forearm, and my Family crest on my right bicep. On lower back (right above the pants line) I'm getting the NES controller (life sized) tattooed, with the cord coming out of the top of the controller, running up my spine, and eventually plugging into the back of my neck, around the base of the plug will be some shadowing to make it look like its really plugged in. Other then that I want something on my calves but I haven't figured it out yet. As for piercings, I'm going to guage both ear lobes to about a 0 (the diameter of a cigarette) and I'm getting the left side of my left eyebrow pierced twice (eventually with two rings in them). All of my tattoos have reasons behind them, weather they be religious believe (the crosses) heritage (celtic band, family crest) or something that has had a huge impact on my life (NES conroller, symbolizing video games in general). As for the piercings, I think they look cool. ![]() -------------------- <Nealio> Seymour sounds like evil Winnie the Pooh |

AD, if you get that peirced man, I wish you the best of luck. It'll hurt like hell, I guarantee you, and if it rejects, you're screwed royally. If it's something you want though, have fun.
Tongue ey? It's less common to find on a guy, but I really love tongue rings. I was considering getting one myself, but I decided it wasn't the best idea I've had. DisasterChild8, That Nes Controller tattoo sounds like it'd be really cool, but a tattoo like that, that is mostly on the spine will hurt like hell.
