I say Gau's dad cause he through that punk away...j/k you two Gau fans. I say Cid because he saves your parties necks in the Magitek Facility and then you can return the favor by letting him die in the W.O.R...hehe I am sinister

Hmm, I noticed that you had forgotten General Leo.

I voted for Kefka, of course.  He was everything you could ask for in a manic-psychotic villain: power-hungry, egomaniacal, bloodthirsty and downright sinister, capable of every soulless deed in the book, and performing mass murder and cold-blooded killings without a single ounce of conscience.  He didn't care how many corpses he had to make to achieve his dark ends, as long as he came out on top.  His showy clown exterior only adds to the twisted and profoundly disturbing persona of the brooding madman.  Most importantly, you could really grow to hate the guy, a feature often lacking in RPG villains.

I was about to put Leo until I remember he is playable even though it is only one battle and you lose anyways...but you still control him. That is also why I didn't include Banon as well

Oh, good point.  I forgot about that.

For the record, I really thought Gungho was cool, too.  He was an interesting character, and didn't get enough screen time.  I liked him better than Strago, for one.  Crazy old men rock.  ;)

Geshtal was the coolest of these NPC's i think. He was an evil emperor pretending to be good, but then going evil again. While somewhat predictable, he was still a cool guy. It's a shame he got thrashed by Kefka though

well i know you get to play with Maduin for the flashback part but it would be cool if you get into battles while you are him.

I would pick someone thats not on that list, Barem. yes it would be cool playing as a thief that can steal stuff other than tonics. and you dont know who barem is then you need to play FF6 more often.  ;)

My vote however, will go cid, cause hes cool and he wears a raincoat!  ^_^

And I thought I was the only Siegfried fan around here!  Not the wimpy little imposter that attacks you on the Phantom Train, but the almighty swordsman of doom who fights you in the Collosseum.  That's one tough battle, especially since you can only use one character, and Shrapnel does a lot of physical damage.  I think he looks cool, too.

I also agree that Baram would've been a top choice for me.  Anyone who's even relatively associated with Shadow is a top pick for me.  ;)

I'd have to go with Kefka. I have a soft spot for those poor maniacal souls who only inevitably get the crap kicked out of them. I don't think they were hugged enough as children.  :shakeshead:

I had to go with Kefka, I mean he was kinda funny in the WoB, and along with not being hugged as a child, I think he was also Dropped on his head, picked up, then dropped again.

Kefka, all the way!  He was one of the few villains that I really loved to hate.  He's a great insane villain that is in your face throughout the entire game,  and actually suceeds in his schemes, even if for a year.  The only other villain I can think of that played the villain role best was Jon Irenicus from Baldur's Gate 2.

Kefka... The most evil antagonist I have ever seen. Add to that too that he nearly killed off the entire party mid-way through the game.

Plus you've got the insane laugh! I don't see Zeromus (sorry, FraudulentTommah!) or Sephiroth with wierd eccentricity besides being their own evil selves. Don't know about FF5, haven't finished it yet.

Daryl :D  She set her goals high and went after them with all her being.  She was smart, determined, and fiercely independent.  I would argue that of all the Final Fantasy characters, Daryl is the closest to being a feminist and a modern woman.  Everyone else, including Quistis and Freya, had this weird hang-up about men.  Their goals and ambitions were just hampered by their need to be dependent on a man.  Bah.  Daryl was the only one who understood the pleasure of living for one's own dreams, and she didn't let any man stand in her way.  If Daryl had been a playable character, she would have totally kicked butt.

You'll notice Square killed her off to advance Setzer's own importance and make him seem more tragic - basically fueling male ego.  Coincidence?  I think not.

After Daryl, I'd vote for Gungho.  Eccentric old men are cute :)

I say Gau's father.  3 reasons:
1.  couldn't pick sigfreid :shakeshead:
2.  would have choose Daryl, but she is playable (GoGo) -_-
3.  He's just cool...what can I say?

You should have went with Daryl then, because Gogo is Gogo, not Daryl. I'm sorry to break the news to you, but Daryl is dead.

Ummm...I know I haven't played the game in ages, but when did they actually show or develop Daryl? I just remember Setzer crying like a baby, and then stealing her airship.

And who's Sigfried?

I am a sap for a good love story  >_> (not cheesy romances, I said GOOD love story).......so it was a toss up for me between Rachel and Daryl.  I chose Daryl because something is much more powerful about it when you see a seemingly emotionally strong and passionate man (Setzer) lose a love and be shaken.  Two free spirits found each other....a soul partner.  It makes us wonder what happens when we've finally found our match, the one person that makes you weaker and stronger both at the same time.  And what happens when you lose that person.  Rachel was this for Locke, but Locke to me was much more sappy about it I think (don't get me wrong, I loved Locke's story).  After seeing the scene with Setzer and Daryl in the tomb, his place in the story really makes sense.  You can really feel him as a character at that point, and to that effect, Daryl is very powerful despite the fact that you never actually meet her in the game.

Daryl. The Setzer/Daryl story was interesting, and Epitaph is a great song.

I picked Kefka because he does the most damage. I didn't see much of Daryl. Gesthal has no testicles nor brains, see floating Island for details. I'm Glad Ultros never made it on this poll I wanted to kill that octopus.

And EvilEye Irenicus was a good villian because I wanted to kill him so much for being so ugly and for being the worst cry baby ever. Kefka is better because he didn't whinge. I liked Sarevok from BG1 because he's more bad ass than Irenicus. He was also more of a challenge in Hell than Irenicus was. And you can play as him in BG2 ToB.

Kefka.

Was there ever really any question? He is a very well developed charecter. Perhaps the best villian I've ever seen. Perhaps a better question is "who's the best besides Kefka?".
Although, I would have to agree with therandyrhoads and give Ultros honorable mention. I don't think he actualy counts, he's on the line as a "charecter" (he had his own outside-of-combat image, and a couple of lines), but Atma was cool.
