My favorite would be 80s because of Metallica, Megadeth, Maiden, Winger, Whitesnake, Van Halen, and so many others.

70s comes close with Sabbath, Kiss, Aerosmith, Purple, Zepplin, and Claptin.

I voted for the '80s because most of my favourite '70s bands were still around in the '80s (even if they weren't as good), but my favourite '80s bands, for obvious reasons, were not around in the '70s.

Having said that, every decade has its good music and its bad music. I could probably have voted for any of the decades in that list, depending on my mood.

I voted for the 80s because of a lot of groups and solo artists such as Cyndi Lauper, Madonna, B52's, Bangles and a lot of one hit wonders.

Gotta be the '80s. Sure there was ALOT of crap, but there was alot of great stuff too. Early Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Anthrax, you got your Randy Rhodes-era Ozzy Osbourne, alot of good Roth-era Van Halen, GN'R, you could go on and on. Shame that people judge the '80s based on A Flock of Seagulls and Poison.

I would vote for this decade if it were over but since it's not I'll say the 90's. This was the decade when the smooth jazz radio format really established itself as did hip-hop. Rock took a nice turn towards a sound we still consider modern. Techno music came alive. When we compare today to the weird sounds of the 80's, we can really appreciate what the 90's has done for us (unless you like the 80's). Prominent names that come to mind include No Doubt, Bush, Nirvana, 311, Sugar Ray, Paula Abdul, Janet Jackson, Snoop Dogg, Will Smith, Aaliyah, Destiny's Child, LL Cool J, Brian McKnight, MC Hammer, Vanilla Ice, Brian Culbertson, Rick Braun, Richard Elliot, Chuck Loeb, Boney James, Steve Cole, Ronny Jordan and Walter Beasley. I know I'm forgetting a lot of others but oh well. It was a great decade.

60's. saw the birth of the beatles, the who, bob dylan, the stones, black sabbath, the dead, zeppelin, and the list goes on forever.

the 70's was a close second, simply because of skynyrd, whom i enjoy more than any of the previous bands, but the many outweighs the one.

finally, i enjoy (certain elements of) the 80s, but for the most part it was much too decadent for my taste. im not particularly down with any time period where grown men walked around in public wearing bike shorts.

aside from rage, tool and zakk wyldes constant solo work, it pretty much all went to shits from there.

I had to pick the 90's... most of the music i listen to was either from the 90s or are by bands vividly influenced by bands from the 90s... a whole fabric of music evolved in that decade (a change for the good)... It was the evolution of hair metal to pure modern rock... ... let me give you some of the greatest names of the 90s... Alice In Chains, Pearl Jam, Stone Temple Pilots, Rage Against the Machine, Tool, Red Hot Chili Peppers (better half of John Frusciante era), Korn (highly influenced a lot of the music style today, love em or hate em), Nine Inch Nails, Soundgarden, Offspring, Smashing Pumpkins, Weezer, Rob Zombie (go ahead and laugh, but you were all singing along with "Dragula" whenver it was on the radio too...)... and oh yeah, Nirvana....

Maybe not the most influential rock era... or full of the all the "best" bands, but it's my weapon of choice...

I said '90s probably because I grew up in it. I also like some of the metal bands out there (ie Nightwish). They're pretty cool. There's others, I know, but I've forgotten them right now due to laziness and lack of willpower. A close second is 60s (I think?) because of Simon & Garfunkel. I love their music. Lotsa stuff going on in a song like The Sound of Silence.

While I like most music from all decades (Stairway to Heaven is one of my all time favorites), I won't be a person who will say that "almost no good music was made in the 90's and onward". I picked the 90s because it was the decade I have grown up in, and have the most memory of. Sabin has mentioned most of my favorite bands (especially Tool (Maynard Keenan has the best voice I have EVER heard), Rage Against the Machine, Nirvana, and KoRn) except he didn't mention Deftones, which I also love. These bands and others make the 90s a very unique decade, as unique as the previous decades in music style and sound.

80s (and late 70s) because most of my music is punk and ska.

I do like some 90s music, but not as much as I used to.

Definitely 90's. Just chop off that early 90's dance crap music, and it was an alright decade for me. The 80's were hideous, I can't stand 90% of the songs from the 80's. 80s movies on the other hand, are outstanding.

Definantly the 80s, Bon Jovi, Motley Crue, Metallica (pre sell-out), Megadeth, Poison, GnR, Ozzy, Van Halen (not Van Hagger) etc. 70s and 60s were a close second. The 50s were good also as were the 90s until 1994, after that music really began to suck as it does now.

I'm going with the 70's, but I wish I could select more. I listen to everything from Dean Martin to The Mama'a and the Papa's to Bill Withers to A-Ha to Soundgarden. I went with the 70'ss mainly because it was the best R&B decade ever. Bill Withers, Al Green, Marvin Gaye are some of my all-time favorites, and I should have to mention all the great rock tocome fromthat decade.

I'm going to go with the last few years, because, yes mainstream music has sucked major ass. No one really appreciates the yelling and screaming and such, but I do.

As much as I love the 60's, 70's and 80's, for music like Zeppelin, Hendrix, Guns N Roses, Ac/Dc and such, it's music relevant to their times. Yes, I can feel it, and I can relate with it, but not as much as say people living during those respective times.

The 90's were just horrible for me, mainly because of Nirvana. Kurt Cobain is probably one of the musicians that I despise the most. Don't get me started on why though. Anyways, bands like Atreyu, Eighteen Visions, It Dies Today, As I Lay Dying, and Poison The Well just speak to me. Sure, sometimes they have really sappy lyrics, but it still sounds hard as hell, and the music is just totally badass.

I'd suggest everyone download As I Lay Dying "94 Hours" and "Distance Is Darkness". Just for the drumming. It's intense.

Listen to Atreyu's "Lip Gloss And Black" or "Someone's Standing On My Chest".

It's just music that speaks to me. This is my era, yelling out both random insanities, and all it's frustrations out at me, in a non whiney "pop-punk" style.

Yeah, the 9os had A-i-C, Zombie (solo), Pantera, STP, Antrax, Korn, Rage, Wylder, and Nirvana, but that still wasn't enough to equal the 80s IMO

I'm into usually almost anything that's punk and a good amount of techno...Classical also and if I like it, some video game music. I can't really say what years because I don't have alot of favorites...I just like alot of music so I just picked the 90s since most of the music I like is from the 90's...of course I'm a guitarist so I still like stuff like Stevie Ray Vaughn and Jimmie Hendrix, John Mayor (spelling on that name?) is also a good guitarist although he can't song for crap.

Slipknot? *shudders*

Anyways...

I relly despise the 90's for most bands. Nirvana never should have happened. Rob Zombie should've kept White Zombie together, because W.Z. is a lot better, at least, in my opinion anyways. A lot of bands that surfaced just never should've happened. Pantera was late 80's, they only went really mainstream when they started putting out "Walk" and "Cowboys From Hell".

In terms of real contributions to music, the 90's was lacking. The 80's were original and awesome at first, but they overdid everything to hell and back. The 60's and 70's paved the way for rock as we know it, and the 40's + 50's had guys like Buddy Holly, and Elvis. Really, I guess up until lately, every decade has made an influnence on music.

Had to go with the 90's too. Although the 80's really spawned the hip-hop genre of music, it was really one dimensional in the 80s. There was the old school, Grandmaster Flash/Sugarhill Gang type stuff, then Eric B. and Rakim and BDP came along with their style, but it was really the early 90s when hip-hop branched out. Native Tongues had their style, Wu-Tang and Nas brought the grimy NY style, and NWA perfected west coast gangster rap. I really think hip-hop peaked in the mid-90s, at least the type I really like.

OMG OMG OMG i love white zombie!!!!! i agree white zombie was a way better band but i still loved dragula... but my favorite songs of white zombie are "blood, milk, and Sky", "More Human than human" man thats good stuff!!! and whats wrong with slipknot??? i enjoy their music a bunch... stuff like Left Behind, prosthetics, my plague, no life, purity, and of course Heretic Song. their first album was way better than iowa but lets hope the third doesnt disappoint... i have heard duality but i havent heard anything other than that... I also enjoy Korn, a perfect circle, godsmack, tool, white zombie, rammstein and youngbloodz (thats rap though).... good stuff good stuff... SLIPKNOT OWNS!!!!

ohh yeah slipknot is nothing like linkin or deftones.... but why you dont like my bands i dont like linkin because one day everyone started listening to them and i hate when everyone listens to my music... and deftones have one song i like "My own summer".
