I didn't know you liked them, DF! I'm a BIG Sigur Ros fan, and I also like Godspeed and Mogwai. You might want to try Valley of the Dolls, which is a side project by some of the guys from Godspeed, IIRC.

Why aren't you shopping AmaCoN?

I had to think long and hard on this one, and finally was honest with myself and voted for game music. However, that's not always my favourite.

Right now, I have a game track playing on winamp, but I click next, and then I have a violin track (Angel opening theme), and then I could have a rock song, or punk, or alternative, or something folky like The Highwayman.

Some of my favourites, aside from game music (and anime music, and jpop) are singers like Jewel, Alanis Morisette, Sarah MacLachlan, Billy Idol, Amanda Marshall, etc. Some bands that I like are BareNaked Ladies, The Sundays, Great Big Sea, Garbage, Coldplay, Aqua (I think nearly everyone gets into "Aqua" moods, sometimes), Green Day (older work), The Offspring (older work), Smashing Pumpkins, and many others. I really like swing music, too, and 80s music.

The only genres that I don't like are pure country (I sometimes like new country, but don't listen to it often), most rap, and boy bands a la Backstreet Boys. I also really don't like Insane Clown Posse, after being exposed to it too much from my former roomate, and other bands like that. Generally, I don't like any song that consists mostly of swearing, yelling and gutteral noises, or anything that's just too negative and pessimistic.

I've heard of Valley Of The Dolls, but I haven't gotten the chance to check them out yet, I will soon though, thanks for the tip Big on Sigur Ros ey? Nice. They deserve all the recognition they're getting now. They really blow me away.

Yeah, I love the classics too. Next to Metallica and Megadeth i like Zepplin, Idol, Sabbath, AC/DC, Stones, Kiss, Aerosmith.
Deth Metal isn't too bad, until they sing. I'm sure someof the bands DF just mentioned are Deth, cause they're metal and I don't recognize them.

I'm a huge death/black metal fan actually, but if you're thinking Sigur Ros, Mogwai and Godspeed! are anything remotely metal, then sorry no.

In terms of that kind of metal, see examples from my original post here, bands like Children Of Bodom, Dimmu Borgir, Malevolent Creation, Deicide, Gorgoroth, Morbid Angel, Dying Fetus, Inflames and such.

A lot of people bash the growl-style gutteral singing that has become the trend with metal / hardcore bands...really, it isn't so bad if you find a singer who can do it without making that overstressed sound. It may just sound like noise, but trust me, it isn't easy and the words growled aren't mindless pyschotic babble all the time.

By the way, I think I'll include this, for the oldschool metal fans and some death metal fans....

There's not much I don't like. Classic rock, prog rock, metal, jazz, blues, even hip hop and techno can be pretty cool. What I enjoy is good musicianship. Bands like Rush, Led Zeppelin, King Crimson, Children of Bodom, Primus, Jethro Tull, and Pink Floyd all have great musicians and some crazy songs. I also enjoy listening to some hip hop and stuff because of the funky rhythm sections they often have (although I'm not an avid listener). Even techno, like Infected Mushroom, is pretty cool, although I don't regularly listen to it.
