I found a list of several different challenges online, and I've been trying a really neat one called the "Truly Oldschool Challenge." It uses four characters (Ramza + three generics) and they are each a class that is only available in FF1. However, they have no abilities, because there were no abilities in FF1. They can all use Item, though, but only Potion, Antidote, and Soft. And the spells for the White and Black Mages are limited (only spells from FF1) and are in tiers, which are based off of the chapter you are in. For example, the Black Mage (Wizard) in Chapter 1 can only learn Fire, Ice and Bolt, whereas the White Mage (Priest) can learn only Cure and Protect. Class Change occurs at the beginning of Chapter 4. The Knight gets DefenseUp, the Monk gets AttackUp, the Thief becomes a Ninja with Equip Shield, the Red Mage gets to learns more spells, and the White and Black Mages each get MagicDefenseUp and MagicAttackUp, respectively.

Now, the fun part is that the classes only need to be used in story battles, so you can use whomever you want anywhere else, like Deep Dungeon (except for END; I'd consider that a story battle). Obviously, though, some battles are really tough. I got owned repeatedly at the Execution Site, and a few times at the Gate of Lionel Castle. But, it can be done (about 20 levels above the enemy does the trick quite nicely; there are no level caps in this challenge happy.gif). I'm stuck right now at

, but that's to be expected.

It's a really fun challenge. I reccomend it to anyone who wants to do something new and enjoyable.

Velius' weakness is that he can be muted/silenced, so, if you keep all of your characters apart from each other (1/3; rise/run, in a 2-d manner?) he will cast summons on you. If you can situate it so that you can silence Clops, attack him, and then wait for him to summon again, it might just work.

I haven't played FF1 though, so there's probably a ton of stuff wrong with that =/

Seems to me, since there are 8 tiers of magic in FF1 and 4 chapters in FFT you should be allowed 2 tiers per chapter. That's just my take though.

That's an excellent strategy. However, you can't learn silence in this challenge (although, it was in FF1... I'll look into that)... I just looked into it; Mute can be learned in FF1 as a second Tier spell, but since the tiers are broken up into just 4 tiers, you should be able to learn it in Chapter 1. Unfortunately, it will remove the valuable Item slot of my White Mage... However, I doubt it will be useful beyond the Velius battle, so, I'll do it! Thanks for the advice!

That's an interesting idea about the tiers, but you'd have to come up with "halfway marks" in each chapter. However, I think it was done in the way it has been done because of the limitation of spells. There are a whole bunch of spells in FFT that just weren't in FF1.

Anyway, I started this topic to see if anyone had tried any other challenges, not just this FF1 challenge. Let's see what people have accomplished! happy.gif

Well, I haven't done any extremely extraordinary challenges other than some SCCs or a solo Ramza challenge, but I did consider doing an all-monster challenge a while back. Ramza can be your only human (for storyline battles; the only ones where he can level up) and the monsters fight all the rest of the ones Ramza isn't imperative for.

Oh, and to make it tougher, you can't use Monster Skill. I wouldn't recommend any featherbedding for Ramza (stalling, pretty much) but there has to be some level caps for him. I just can' t think of any.

Chapter 1 --> Level 15
Chapter 2 --> Level 25
Chapter 3 --> Level 35
Chapter 4 --> Level 50

The monsters have no level caps though, so that's good. I guess Ramza would have to be used until he invited five monsters, but, it's all good I guess. It would be interesting to act out.

After many tries, I managed to beat Velius, and I didn't even end up using Silence Song. tongue.gif I was around level 65, though, and I beat him by luck. This challenge is tough.
