I don't know how many of you acutally got to see all of Rikku's Overdrives, but I never had the patience.  I'm trying though.  Well, I just wanted to know why they would give Rikku that kind of Overdrive.  Sure the outcomes look cool, but I'm not even sure what most of them do!

There's only one Mix Overdrive that you really need to know, and that's Super Mighty Guard.  Mix two Lunar Veils, and voila!  Superior protection on all three.  I never really used the other Mixes, but that one feature alone made Rikku practically invaluable to me.  It's a fantastic way to guard against basically anything your enemies can throw at you.  At one point, I was pretty dependent on it, and made sure Rikku was up to Overdrive before I made it to a major boss fight.

That being said, many of the "hardest" bosses are a breeze with a healthy dose of Super Mighty G.  The third Seymour's vaunted "Total Annihilation"?  Practically nothing, especially if you have high-HP characters like Auron or Wakka along for the ride.

I usually use Map + Map for most of the game.  It's inexpensive and effective, and gets me to use it quickly.  Later, I'll use the guards if need be, or just this or a quick heal.

I agree.  I pretty much only used her Mighty Guard mix.  Still, I want to know what stuff like Hero or Quartet 99 do.
