Why on earth did the mods at CoN decide to remove the [font] tag from the boards? I am very shaken by this decision, as I always implemented it into my posts.... "Century Gothic" was such a nice looking font for my ideas to be represented in.

What do you all think? Are you upset that the font tag is gone? Do you care at all?

If it's that important to you, you can probably do this:
Code

[font=Century Gothic]text[/font]

I think.

Nope, I have tried. They no longer work on the forums, except in signatures.

They were removed for the very reason you liked them, sadly.

The problem with the fonts is that they were intended for emphasis and intermittent use, not constant use by members for no reason other than to be different. Additionally, use of the font modification tags, from face to color, can cause issues with usability on various forum skins.

Presentation is a big factor in individuality, just as content is. Look at the way people dress: you can tell a lot about a person by the way they look coupled with the manner in which they dress (messily put together, in raggy clothes, in nice clothes, in perfectly creased clothing, etc.).

I feel I express myself explicitly in my posts, I just liked being able to have a nice looking font to accent the way in which I present my self. Much like in real life, where I tend to dress in nice clothing all the time--sure, I could just let my personality do the talking, but clothing is a fine way to do it... and it just looks so nice biggrin.gif .

Anyway, I suppose I'm not devastated and will move on. I was just a tad disappointed when I noticed that they were gone.

Well the key difference here is that this is a forum, people don't judge your content based one what font you use like they might based on how you dress.

I could understand your argument if it was an entire website you're talking about, you want it to look nice then. But on a forum, where people are going to be reading your content anyway, it's pointless.

If you still have an issue with it, you can override the fonts on pages in IE, if you use it. A fake fix, but at least you won't be "shaken" over something small.

Soup, does your name ever make you hungry?

Heh, I was just giving them all a hard time. I have been on the board for a while now, so I would hope that by now the other users here have been judging me by my posts and not by what font I had been using.

I was just curious as to why all of the sudden the font tag disappeared today. Now that I know, I feel a bit better. Just making sure I wasn't going crazy and unable to see the button.

oh, yes, we do judge you by your posts. believe me. and typing in a different fontface just to be different can be annoying. just keep posting like you do. often, you have interesting and thought-provoking things to say. the points still get across w/o a different font-face (or colour) that everyone else is using. hell, i don't use fonts, and i don't think anyone would argue that i come across with a *very* distinct personality smile.gif

Sí, gozaru~, soy hispanohablante. En mi opinión, español es más elegante que todas las otras lenguas. Canciones escritas en español son, sin duda, encarnaciones de belleza pura. También, la guitarra española es muy impresionante. ¿Has escuchado mucha música latina? Soy un amante de la música española y latina.

Don't worry, Djibriel, I am completely over the missing font tag. We had a nice little fling for a while, but now I understand that its gone for good. pinch.gif

well, i'm glad everything has been resolved and we all realise that (as i suggested a while back) readinig non-custom fonts makes it a lot easier on the eyes and somewhat less annoying, braco, rangers, you took my advice for once. biggrin.gif

this didn't deserve a new post, but i specifically mentioned stephenthe3rd's font face in chat in the past. and got yelled at for it. pinch.gif

On a side note, color tags are gone too. All modes of personalization are slowly vanishing. Watch out, signatures and avatars are the next things to go. R51 is already talking about how signatures are stupid. Heheh. wink.gif

Signatures may be largely stupid, but they don't cause readability issues (unless you make them too big, which we'll already beat you up for). Colour removal has been on my agenda for months, and font and size were a logical extension.

When you use Digi as your skin, it starts getting to you when people use dark blue fonts.

I think we should stick to signatures. I'm having way too much fun thinking of a new, interesing and highly arrogant way to promote my site in it every week.

Well, sigs seem safe for now, and if they can be useful. Take my custom title i won for 2 months: since 95% of people here dont know what a Land Raider is unless i tell them, thats why i have given a link to a pic of one.

And i think Fonts is no great loss. Colour Tags were also annoying, as Red letters sometimes hurt my eyes when i was tired.

Oh well, basically, all i can say is, I dont mind whatever changes are done (hey, i dont have a right to complain, do i?) as long as location, posts, names, avs, and sigs are left.

I support the removal of color and font tags. No offense to the people who use them, but I skipped over posts on occasion if the font was different or the color was too bright. It just makes the forum look messy.

No, Goz, I don't think anyone would argue that point.

I agree with Josh. happy.gif You should be able to have a personality without using fonts and colors. Besides, most of the time, no matter how cool you think your fontiness is, it looks awful to someone else. Instead of approving people's creative formatting on a case-by-case basis, it's a lot easier to make everyone look normal, and, therefore, legible.
