* I put the principal choices in alphabetical order (and sorry if I made mistake in parties name, I just don't know how to name them correctly) *
Next week, some guys that earn money with our taxes will convince us that they're the best to govern the country. It'll be our choice (or lack of) to decide which of these puppets (sorry, politicians) will become our next prime minister of the "plus meilleur pays au monde". I won't vote cause I will just have 18 yo next year. But, anyway, I don't wanna vote. Liberals and their sponsor scandal, Bloc Québécois and his dream to become souvereign (I don't want to be represented by Jean Charest, ![]() Then, I would like to hear about your opinion (and if you're not Canadian but are interested in Canada's politic, it would be interesting to hear about outside point of views). Please, respect other's opinions. We aren't there to make war, but to discuss PEACEFULLY -------------------- «À l'aventure compagnons, je suis parti vers l'horizon! Here in Quebec, we have the Bloc Pot. A bunch of stoners trying to get into power so they can legalize drugs and get everyone fried 24/7. As soon as I turn 18, they get my vote for sure, just because I'd love to watch them ruin our country.
I don't like the Liberal or the Bloc Quebecois/ P.Q. very much because, well they're all filthy liars that never get much done. I'm glad Cretien is out of power, but what's his face the new guy is a big douche. No matter who gets voted in, you can predict two things for sure, higher taxes, more money scandals. Canadian politics, gotta love em. -------------------- Okay, but there was a goat! |

I really don't know who I would vote for, anymore. I liked Paul Martin for some things, but then there was that whole scandal, and yadda yadda.
I don't think that Mr. Chrétien would go back, considering that he stepped down from being PM. ^-^ So far, no candidate or party has really caught my attention. -------------------- I had an old signature. Now I've changed it. |

Word, it would be too damn funny to see the Bloc Pot in power. We'd go from one of the highest ranking "best places to live" to one of the best ranking "Trippiest places to live."
You know, all things considered, Martin is just bad with money. I take back my douche comment, he's just lousy with doing the right thing with money. All other things considered, he's not that bad. -------------------- Okay, but there was a goat! |

Did you see the ads today? In Québec, never they mention the Liberal Party (they said "L'Équipe Martin" instead). Bullshit, they try to make Quebecers forget about the sponsor scandal (which was exprecially created to make propagande against the "Souveraineté-Association" project of the Parti Québécois).
Martin is one the richest man in Canada. He doesn't care about middle-class like us (he doesn't care about poor-class either). Bloc Pot is a good idea (I wasn't sure to put it, I put Jean Chrétien instead ![]() Then, "Si la tendance se maintient..." Jean Chrétien will be our next prime minister ![]() P.S.: Sorry, if I use french words/expressions but in politic, I don't know english politic vocabulary. -------------------- «À l'aventure compagnons, je suis parti vers l'horizon! I've seen a Canadian Ballot before:
A. Do what the Americans do B. Do what the americans do and complain about it. ![]() -------------------- My second daughter, if we have girls, will be named Rikku. I'm not kidding. |

Sometimes, and I say SOMETIMES, canadian gouvernment doesn't do what USA gouvernement wants us to do. i.e., Iraq war, gay marriage, medicinal pot legalization (but medicinal pot is crap, this is why they wanna ask prisoners to do better pot)...
Stephen Harper is correct, he has the face of a prime minister, but he is a Tory, so... Gilles Duceppe will never be prime minister, but he would do a good opposition chief for Quebecers only, but for the rest fo Canada, his party is useless so... I like to make fun of Paul Martin, then I would like t vote for him. ![]() Is there an ecologic party? Edit Forget whay I said! I'll vote for Blue Party ![]() This post has been edited by Goonies on 23rd May 2004 02:38 -------------------- «À l'aventure compagnons, je suis parti vers l'horizon! 35 days left until we have another prime minister. What was your impressions of the speech of the leaders (Martin, Harper, Layton and Duceppe) yesterday? (You can continue to just speak about Canada politics if you want)
Martin => Frightened (21 juin... 28... janvier...) ![]() Harper => Real confident and humorous, but Conservatory ![]() Duceppe => Experienced, but I find his party useless ![]() Layton => I'm not sure, I'll have to listen to him again in order to make an opinion about the man but I like his ideas (more social and ecologic than any other's one) ![]() Blaze MacLeod, me too I've heard this ballot before and I've heard also this one about Americans: What's our is our and what's your is negotiable ![]() Edit Oh! And I changed the choices of my poll to include Bloc Pot and Bleu party(thanks Elena99!) As your fellow Canadian Chris "Jericho" Irvine says: Lighten Up Junior! Sorry, the only forums I inhabit are the Caves Of Narshe and the Allegories Of The Damned forums. I know it was a joke, but if you got as many Canadian jokes as I did half the time, you'd be touchy about it too. Goonies, I didn't get to hear the speeches yesterday, but from what I've read about it and such, they're all generally saying the same things with different words. Martin is frightened because he knows his short power trip is over. Harper is confident because, despite everything, he's got a huge backing. Duceppe may be experienced, but it's only with office work, he's never really had much power or any significant position of power in our goverment, as far as I'm aware of. I still didn't hear Layton, but if anything, I think it's going to be between him and Harper. -------------------- Okay, but there was a goat! |

By experienced, I meant that it's his third election and know what to do and what to not do during the election.

I expect a Liberal minority government, with the Conservatives close behind as first legitimate Opposition in a decade. Of course, this leaves the NDP in a great position, especially if they can win the number of seats they think they can. The Bloc will also be a major factor; I expect (keep in mind that I am not a resident of Quebec) that the Bloc will win every seat in which they have a chance.
My sense is that the people don't trust Martin, but neither do they have much faith in Harper. Martin has to hope that Harper won't suddenly endear himself to the public in the next month (I don't believe that he will). Personally, I feel ambivalent about this election. I think it is wonderful that the Liberal Juggernaut is finally dying; without any opposition to speak of, they were too powerful for too long. More parties wielding power is, in my mind, a good thing in many ways. However, the fact is that, barring a major and shocking change in the political climate, there are only two parties that have any hope of forming the government: the Liberals and the Conservatives. This reminds me very much of the American Republican-Democrat system, which is bad; I firmly believe that an election with only two legitimate options is unacceptable. The 'Big Two' (and even the NDP, although not to the same extent) are filled with career politicians who are out for personal success. Without more options, I fear that many of Canada's citizens will be voting not for a candidate in whom they believe, but for the candidate that they think will be 'the least bad.' Unacceptable. Unless the NDP looks strong in my riding (and with Liberal Scott Brison here [being backed by Joe Clark], I think that's unlikely to happen), I'll probably vote for the Green Party. They have absolutely no chance to win here, but I refuse to vote Liberal or Conservative. I suppose you could call it a 'useless protest vote,' but I really believe that we need more options. Incidentally, I believe that the Green Party will win at least one seat in BC. It's a party on the grow, and if [Green leader] Harris gets the spot in the debate that he's pushing for (and I think he will; the Green Party is now one of the 'Big Five'), the party will get some much-needed exposure. I encourage everyone to check out not only the Green Party, but all of the alternatives out there. -------------------- Always hopeful, yet discontent; he knows changes aren't permanent -- But change is! |

I would definitely vote for the Blue Party. Blue is my favorite color after all.

If Canadian polititions are anything like ours, every party's candidate is crap in a different wrapper. I'm 21 and I'll be voting against Bush more than for John Kerry.
