I'm going to have to go with R51 for this one.
I never really did like the story line of ffta. I also didn't like how you have to learn skills from weapons. It never made any since to me. -------------------- I will be the mustard of your doom! |

You will be disapointed. You will also be angry. Very angry. I swear, every time I forget to check the battle laws, I get game over. It's inevitable!

it is completely different (well, both games take place in a world called ivalice), but unlike everyone else in the thread, i find it to be completely addictive as well. While i aggree that the way you learn abilities is weird (its exactly like FFIX) its still fun, and i love the battle laws, they force you to keep a wide variety of characters at the ready. Great game, Enjoy!

yea, here are some differences in FFTA.
You have to learn abilites from weapons and armor instead of buying them with JPs. JPs are called "Judge points" instead of "Job points" Special Characters will join you late in the game instead of early. you will be guested by Ritz and Shara at a few missions. (but there is one where you have to face them and their clan in battle) there are 5 races to use.(Humans, Viera, Moogle, Nu Mou, and Bangaa) each race have their own jobs. (there are few of them that have the same jobs tho) you can learn new jobs by the number of action abilites you've learned, there will be a judge to watch every battle except Jagds areas, lawless slums. no judge, no laws. but you must becarefull here, if marshe is knocked out here, it's game over. (avoid bringing him here if you can't risk an auto game over) if anybody gets knocked out, you better bring someone with Life, full-life, Phoenix, and Phoenix down before the end of the battle, or you'll loss anybody who has fallen. |

The laws get problematic, especially when three happen at once, but make sure you keep a variety of anti-laws. Also, plan ahead of where you're going in relation to laws.
I guess the weapon thing is odd... considering FFT you actually learned it. Unless you're sure you get a kick out of fighting, don't count on the game giving you more than that. |

Final Fantasy Tactics Advance was incredibly fun. The job system is far more complex, and in my opinion, a lot easier to work with than in FF Tactics. You can make some amazingly powerful combinations of characters.
However, it must be noted the game is also easy. I beat it in 23 hours, with mediocre equipment and powers. It wasn't until i beat the storyline that I was able to get the really good stuff. However, I've logged about 60 hours of gameplay on it total, but here's the thing: I've got no where to go with it. My characters are, and for a while now have been, insanely powerful, and it didn't take too much effort to build them up that way. I've gotten 215 missions completed, but now I'm stuck because I can't get the items I need to complete the rest of the missions. If I just play to fight other clans, well, my enemies drop like flies in one or two rounds, even if they are the same level as me. The only thing that ever causes me to game over is the law system, which is very easy to get around via law cards or simply moving around the map until you come up with laws that don't effect you. The down side of this is that, well, if you want a game that will really challenge you all the way through, you might get bored with FFTA pretty fast. Also, the storyline is pretty generic, which, although it is a solid, decent storyline, its also very tightly focused. It plays out like a short cartoon movie, rather than an epic novel, as most Final Fantasties do. The focus of FFTA is on completing missions and having fun with the job system while working within the law system, not engrossing plot. So while FFTA is a very fun game, FFT is a lot more challenging, with a much more engrossing stories and much more intriguing characters. The Job system may be less complex, but this also makes it a bit more interesting. In FFTA, any *one* character can obtain power that would allow them to beat the snot out of a FFT character like T.G. Cid. You have a lot of classes to choose from, but all of them are potentially devastating, even the weak ones. In FFT, classes are alot less powerful, so its actually more involving finding just the right combination of abilities to make a character that can actually face someone like T.G. Cid. Anyway, FFTA is a very fun game, I think you'll enjoy playing it, (its definitely one of the few games I can say I truly got my moneys worth for recently), but I don't think it's quite as engrossing or involving as FFT. Just my opinion, but i hope it helps. -------------------- And behold, I saw a Pale Gaming System, and the name of he who rode it was Squaresoft, and Enix followed him. |

The only problem I have with FFTA is the Judges and Laws. If they were removed entirely, I'd enjoy the game far more. Otherwise, the laws are a hinderance that prevent personal enjoyment.
Well, and one other thing: Humans can't be monks? Does ANYONE see the logic in this? -------------------- Think about this concept for a second, and you tell me that you would not think twice before purchasing it: ghetto breast milk |

Yeah, I realized FFTA is broken when you can steal an enemy's skills after putting him to sleep, then dishing out the Starburst->Quick machine all the time.

Edit Rangers51 Posted on 4th December 2003 08:58 It's completely different and mediocre. I don't agree with U R51, FFTA was a very good game, and YES I will try FFT. Also Phalanx, I agree, Humans should be monks, it is unfair that Bangaas can only be them, the same goes 4 Red Mages. And only humans can have Dbl. Sword, they get it in a wpn. as a Ninja, but I wish Bangaas, Moogles, and all of the other races can learn it. Also I am going to give FFTA a score, 10 out of 10, I know I may sound crazy, but this is a great game, a bit easy, but fun. i just wish the game was capable of 4 GBA's linked together, not to or online or LAN play, it sounds like a cool idea. |

FFTA is a disgrace to the awesome memory of FFT. I played that game for 10 minutes, then returned it to the store in disgust...

I hope they wouldn't let you return it. If you're going to chicken out and not even attempt to play through the game, even for a little while, that's a weak effort. The game isn't a perfect ten out of ten, no doubt, but it's not worth scoffing at because it doesn't live up to its predecessor. Christ.

If you play a game for ten minutes and form your opinion off that, that is a weak effort, man. Hopefully your previous postwas hyperbolic or something. =/

I read the gaming magazine articles on it... read several forum posts on it... everyone talked about how well thought out and fun this game was to play. So I borrowed it from a friend and tried it our for a few days. Completely, utterly disappointed. I blame myself for much of the disgust, though, because I wanted so badly for this to be at least a concievable sequel to Tactics... which of course it is not. Even still, though, I found the game to be tedious and unenjoyable, though it did have some novel approaches that could end up being awesome if further explored and implemented in later games.

Though my *official* standpoint is one of disgust and revulsion towards FFTA, I guess that I can admit that there was one good thing about that game: Uhh... ... Lemme get back to you on that one... ... I know there was something...

Is there actually any contact information for Squenix that requests and suggestions concerning an FFT sequel can be mailed to?

I enjoyed Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, but the target audience shows in the game. FFTA is obviously designed for a younger audience. The plot is much less complex -- and FFTA's plot lacks the murder and intrigue of its predecessor.
Also, the gameplay is substantially easier. In FFT I actually had a tough time in some battles, but that was never the case in FFTA. If you know what to expect in the next battle, you can use the Law system to disable your opponents. (For example, if you know you’re going to be fighting a lot of Soldiers and Warriors, try coming into battle with the Sword law.) Unlike FFT, FFTA prevents you from becoming insanely powerful early in the game. You can’t learn certain abilities (like Two Swords) until you acquire the weapon or armor that teaches them.) -------------------- The world before the fall... Delightful is the light of dawn... When it gets right down to it, I look at FFTA in the same light as I do Kingdom Hearts. Some good ideas, lots of advertising, and then really childish delivery.

I agree with Hamedo, since square and enix merged, it look like Enix became the boss and use the talent of Square to make childish games.

Personally, I don't want to see a direct sequel to FFT. Like all final fantasy installments, it is meant to be self contained and should stay that way. FFTA was good in that it was a large departure from the original FFT. I still like FFT more, but FFTA brought freshness to the table, and that is part of what appealed to me aboutt he game. Not that I'll likely play it again, though...

I think I could live with an FFT sequel that didn't follow the first one in terms of plot.... but I would love for it to have some familiarity to it. I would want to see things like a statue of Besrodio in Goug... the grave of Ramza... Worker 8 somewhere... little things like that. I would love to have the story tols through Delita's eyes, but any story that has a plot as original and intricate as FFT, so long as a few other things fall into place, will be a good game.

FFTA isn't really such a horrible game. Agreed that the skills from weapons makes things bit...2ell, weird, it's still a neat obstacle to get aroun . Agreed, that it isn't as good as FFT, but I don't look at it as a sequel to the awesome Final Fantasy Tactics, I see it as a more light hearted game, designed with a lot of similarities. I liked the different races, and how certain jobs were only useable by a certain species. I5 made things more interesting. -br> I also like how you get to decide where to place all the cities and locations, and you get rewarded based on where you pat these places. It's a pret y cool concept. |
