I've never been in nothing major, just someone slamming on their breaks really fast and causing us to hit them pretty hard in the rear end. I don't remember exactly what happened, but I think they may have tried to sue us or call the police. I'm unsure. It didn't go through well though, and our whole front side of the car was messed up pretty badly because of it.

Well I've been in about 10 accidents...one time me and some friends were in Dallas and had to make an emergency stop because of a wreck that had just happened in front of us and we got hit from behind by some idiot that wasn't paying attention and hit us going 60 or so, another time I got thrown out of the windshield of a truck and knocked out and another time I was in a Sunfire and some girl pulled out in front of us and when we hit her some of the parts under the hood came out the side of the car and through the dash...needless to say I went to the hospital for almost all of my accidents. I'm really lucky I'm even alive right now...as for me driving I have been in no accidents, every one I have been in has been while someone else was driving and it was the other drivers fault.

I've had just one accident, and it involved the back of my father's jeep and a birch tree.

Me and three of my friends went on a camping trip about an hour from home, when I was 16. I drove my dad's Isuzu Trooper, which was already a little old and run down from having me and my sister learn to drive on it, and being about 8 years old to begin with.

We stayed overnight in tents, then the next morning we stuffed the trooper with all our gear, and prepared to head out. Now, our site was a little narrow, and it was dense with trees around it, so it was a little hard to maneuvre to begin with. We had packed the back of the vehicle with stuff so high that it was hard to see out of my back window, so I was depending on my three friends to help me back up properly.

Next thing I know, I hear a loud crunching sound, and I can't move back anymore (I was going really slowly. Inching.) We got out to find that I had backed into a very skinny birch tree (diametre was less than 5 inches) and the warped frame on the back window had caused the back window to shatter.

I was pretty upset, since I had never backed into anything before and now I had messed up my dad's car, so we gathered up the pieces of glass as best we could, and moved most of the stuff in the back to the seat where two of my friends were, so that it wouldn't fall out the window. I drove the hour back home pretty slowly (dropping off my friends before going home, of course) and my dad was goodnatured enough about it. Unfortunately, this was nearly the last straw for the trooper, and within a year it was sold to a business that used old cars for parts, and my dad got a new car.

my friend brian crashed his accord 7 times, all of them with me in it, nothing totally major, thank god. this guys hit trees, signs, and 3 seperate cars on different occasions. the only reason he stopped driving the accord is because it was undrivable. thankfully, his driving has since then greatly improved.

me and my dad once crashed his work van, and despite having my seatbelt on tight, it didnt lock, and my head broke the windshield, i still have like a nerve problem or something to this day, it sometimes wakes me up in the middle of the night, and feels like i have crazy pins and needles towards the back of my head.

once when i was on foot, a guy hit me with his toyota coming out of 7 11. it hurt my knee and my bad ankle, i ended up kinda jumping onto the hood of his car so i didnt end up in oncoming traffic, and he gave me 100 bucks not to press charges.

finally, when im workin down at the shootin range, i have crashed golf carts and a john deer gator numerous times, but usually it wasnt what you would call an "accident", it fits more along the lines or "parking lot demolition derby" or "golf cart jousting".

I hit a guy's truck with my bumper backing out a parking space once. My bumper got large black smears while his truck had one tiny black smudge just forward of his front passenger door. Nothing ever came of it.

I was on my way to school one morning, when I had to slam on my breaks, and I was ok, because I was following far enough behind, but the girl behind me dumb beep that she is, was following too close, rammed me, and ruined my white '94 mitsubishi galant, which when totalled, somehow turned into a piece of crap '94 toyota pickup... <grumbles>

Well there was this one time my car was in an accident but I wasn't in it at the time. I was standing next to it though. Its a long story so get comfortable.

So I am driving around and these hooligans (for lack of a better word) start causing trouble. So I am gonna follow them because my car looked very similar to the unmarked police cars of the day. So they notice that and start to drive twords this appartment complex. So they all get out and are halfway to the top of the place by the time I pull up and park (I was following at somewhat of a distance) and I get out to brandish my fist at them...too bad I forgot to put the parking break on. My car rolled down the hill it was on and I am freaking out. There were only four things it could have hit, a dumpster, a telephone pole, a bush, or a lake. Well it misses the dumpster no problem but then it starts heading for the pole. Oh god no don't hit the pole! It misses the pole but in turn is going sraight for the lake. No! Not the lake! Go back to the pole! I hadn't seen the bush until I ran to the edge of the hill. Fortunatly it hit the bush, the only thing that wouldn't have totaled it, it took a log time to fix the paint job though.

Only one little old accident for little old Ejoty. I was driving back from Jujitsu in my old Subaru wagon at about 35mph, and some lady in a mini-van sped out of a McDonald's from the left side of the road. I slammed on my brakes, but still hit her front right wheel with my front left fender.

In the end I got a thousand something $$ for new fenders and headlights and this that and the other thing. Serves her and her insurance company right, she pulled right in front of me and I only had twelve or so feet to stop... and McDonald's is evil.

LOL, I second that my friend, entirely... but I don't know what your reasons are, mine are truely because I'm a health nut, and McDonalds isn't exactly the health food central

It was when I was very young. Like a toddler, we were at an intersection. One of the cars didn't stop and it hit us really hard. I was bleeding pretty bad above my brow. Then I had to get stiches for it.

When I was riding home from school with a friend, he ran into an old lady's car. No damage, no one hurt.

This happened like a month after he got his license.

I came home from a gig with my band really late one night. It was around finals week so I had really been pushing myself in the sleep department. Most of the half-hour drive home had me drifting in and out of consciousness (and at that point I should have realized I needed to pull over, but I'm stupid), but I managed to stay incident-free. Ironically, it was the last street which got me (I would have turned into our driveway in just another hundred yards or so). I drifted off, meandered off the road and clotheslined a mailbox and a small push into obliviion. There was only minor damage to the car as a result, but I did have to pay the homeowner for the mailbox and shrubbery.

The driver for my schoolbus came in completely plastered, he ran a red light and totalled a police car. That was a few years back...

I see at least 1 car accident a day, isn't that a bit odd, but I don't know anyone who has been in one, and I haven't been in one myself.

Rear ended twice and one major crash that cost me a job and emptied my savings account.

It was my fault, I ran a red light in the middle of the day. No idea how it happened. I was just spaced out or something. Anyway, I hear a horn and that brings me back to reality and I slam on the brakes, but it's too late and this land rover ends up hitting me right on the front axle, breaking the transmition and costing me over 2500 dollars to get my car back in working order. In the meantime, I'm without a job, which required a car (pizza delivery) and have no way to get to school. Two weeks later, I got my car, I fail most of my classes and the place I was working for has now closed up and moved to parts unknown.

Up until that accident was one of the first times I felt I was finally getting ahold of my life and 'getting it together'. This kinda happens alot, assuming I'm even given time to organize before the next disaster strikes...and they just keep getting bigger.

I actually just got rear-ended two days ago. No rhyme or reason for it, just slowing down to make a turn...signal on...and all of sudden I hear tires squeel and someone slams into the back of my car. A bit of damage, but I wasn't hurt. I'm not really worried about it either, his insurance will cover it...it's just a pain in the arse.

Heh... the same thing happened to me about a week before you made that post except some old woman hit me and it didn't do anything but leave a couple of black marks on my rear bumper so I told her it was no big deal and not to worry about it.

I've been in a couple.

One night a drunk driver in Providence, where I was living at the time, had been driving and slammed right into my BMW Z3. My$35,000 baby was now totaled. The guy is still in jail... Thank god. I wasn't injured, oddly enough. My neck was stiff for a couple of weeks but that's it.

When I was learning to drive with my permit I had hit three deer, three different occasions, with my father's car. That sucked. I haven't hit another deer since. Knock on wood.

There were a few other minor incidents, none my fault. My Z3 was a magnet for people hitting it though. I now drive a BMW M3 and nothing has happened to that one - yet.

dang therandyrhoads... I'm just about to start driving... My name's Brian and my dad's probably getting me an Accord. I've been in no wrecks so far [and i hope it stays that way or my insurance will be 5000 a year], but i've heard that my mom has been side-swipped by an old blind man and rear-ended by some guy on a cellphone [pure idiocy if you ask me].

I have a pending lawsuit against a woman I was in a wreck with back in 2001.
It was bad enough to total our minivan (separated the body from the frame) and I had to be taken to the emergency room in an ambulance. I had to get my ankle, knee and elbow x-rayed. Thanks god it was just a sprain. But I have reocurring back problems even now that I didn't have before the wreck.

I've never been in an accident, but my mom once flipped our firefly. It actualy went up in the air and landed upside down in a ditch, no foolin'. Somehow she managed to get out of it with only a few fractures and a wicked bruise from the seatbelt.

I've never been in a car that was part of an accident, but I've had the luck to be driving behind several. The most frightening was when the SUV in front of our van swerved into oncoming traffic for no apparent reason and hit a pick-up truck head-on. The girl in the SUV had been a little tipsy and talking on her cell phone.

Thread. Necromancy. It continues because I've been trolling old threads for what seems like forever this afternoon, and because I have an excellent story from a couple summers ago that never got shared here.

Back two summers ago, I was in the same job I have now, but I was still working in my old office in Boston. That commute was pretty brutal - for anyone who's spent time around Boston, my home was north of Cambridge and my job was down in Newton, which meant that the most direct route to get there was down I-93 and go through the Big Dig to the Pike. To those who don't know Boston, know this: it's about the most painful ten miles anyone could want to drive in the United States, or at least outside of Los Angeles, which doesn't really count anyway.

I was on the way home one night, a little bit early because my softball game that night had been canceled right as I was getting ready to leave the office. I made the drive home, uneventfully, until traffic backed up on the interstate, as it almost always did; tonight, it happened about a quarter mile from the exit to my apartment. As I sat there, listening to NPR as on every other night, a guy in a Jeep Cherokee flew by me on the shoulder. This is not an uncommon occurrence up there, even though it is only jerkwads who do it. Normally, I decide to also be a jerkwad and I edge my car just a little bit onto the shoulder and sit there, so they can't get around, but this guy came up and passed me so fast that I never even saw him.

He drove by me, and then noticed a gap about three cars ahead of me and decided to swing into it. As he did, I heard the awful scream of a transmission being jammed from a forward gear into reverse, and he squealed to a stop. It seemed that his transmission was probably blown, as he didn't move for a bit, so cars started to inch around him. However, just as I started to look for a gap to do the same, the Jeep started squealing its tires and leapt backwards into me, crushing my front end.

He immediately got out of the car, apologized profusely, and asked if we could pull off the interstate to get out of the way and exchange information. I told him that was fine, as the next exit was just a few hundred feet ahead, and it was my exit anyway. However, as he got back into his car, I got a bad feeling about it and hurriedly wrote down his license plate number.

And that's when it got crazy. He started to go down the offramp, to a fork, and that's when he actually faked going one direction and then turned to the other. I started to follow him despite having only three working wheels, and when he saw I was still near him, he swerved around traffic and jumped a curb into the nearest parking lot - which happened to be that of the county courthouse - and took off. My little Corolla couldn't jump a curb on its best day, let alone with a crushed right front, so I had no choice but to call the cops then and there.

Thankfully, there existed a state police barracks just a half mile away, and the police responded within five minutes, escorting me back to give a report. As I was showing the trooper my car outside, after having given the plate number, a Volkswagen Beetle pulled in behind me, with its rear end smashed to bits. Turns out that in his haste to escape me, the guy plowed into the Beetle at a light not three quarters of a mile away in the other direction. Not much else happened, though - both I and the other driver independently IDed the guy from his license photo, and the cops escorted me home so I could drive my mangled car to the body shop the next day.

They caught the guy four hours later, after he'd hit at least one other occupied car and two unoccupied ones. He was hiding at his in-laws' house, and, as you might have surmised, was still drunk when the police caught up to him. I don't know what ever happened to him, though I'm certain he'll never be driving again, and even that is just by the pure luck that he didn't actually physically hurt anyone.

My car had almost six thousand dollars' damage, but was repaired in three weeks and I still own it. This is how it looked then, though: http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.9...ed25af2f&type=1

That was a story well worth sharing!

Sadly, we never seem to get lunatics of quite the same calibre in the UK (partly why our real-life cop shows are so poor by comparison).

The most I've ever been in was a rear end shunt at a red light. I was only the passenger at the time, and the guy had simply let go of his brakes by accident. He was moving so slow there was no real damage done.

Guess I should thank my lucky stars I've never had anything worse!

Almost had one this morning on the way back from the airport. The guy in front of me slammed on his brakes for no reason as we were going 55 down a hill - I could see in front of him as we were on a hill, and there was absolutely no reason for this to happen. At least I know my brakes work well now, at the expense of my ears for the screeching tires...
