I'm addicted to FFVI Expert Version 2 right now. You know you're addicted to a game when you think about it all the time and play it whenever you get the chance. I'm falling behind on preparing for spring among other things because of this project. I even forgot to pay up on my credit card this month.

I would tend to argue that ANYONE in a chat forum about a Super Nintendo game that's about a decade old can empathize with an addiction to games, but perhaps that's just me...
My current addiction now lies with the XBox. My roomate this year is not going to be rooming with me next semester, and the PS2 is his while the XBox is mine. In preperation for a life without PS2 (until Christmas, anyway) I decided to stock up on some XBox games, and the two that most occupy me now are NCAA Football 2003 and Brute Force. I'm surprised how little attention Brute Force got; it's a direct ripoff of Halo, sure, but they did a good job with it, and if you're going to rip someone off, Halo's not a bad game to shoot for. |

I used to be heavily addicted to StarCraft and WarCraft 2 (pre-b.net edition). When I was younger, I would go to sleep and then try to fall asleep, but couldn't, and just laid in my bed waiting for the morning to come so I could play WarCraft 2 on IRC with real people using TCP/IP! I didn't think it could get any better, but obviously I was wrong since there are now direct servers just for the games. I participated in tournaments for websites, gaming leagues (my most beloved rememberence being the Macintosh Gaming Leage (or MaG)), and couldn't stop playing all day.
My addiction for StarCraft, however, was so much worse. I was addicted to the game before I even had it. My cousin showed me the game when it had just come out, and I was positively entranced and immediately loved it. However, at the time, my only computer was a Macintosh, and StarCraft had only come out for the PC thus far. For this reason, my brother, my father, and I had tried to figure out how to get a PC without paying too much, and after much debate, we finally decided to sell all of our Magic: The Gathering cards that we had been saving for 4-5 years, which ended up netting us $1000 over eBay. Then we went back on eBay to search for a nice, affordable computer and its accessories. We found this very nice Vaio computer, and eventually bought it. I was SO excited when the computer itself finally came (I had bought the StarCraft CD LONG before we bought the computer, and I spent my days reading the StarCraft manual for fun), but the monitor was still a week or two away from arriving. But my father, ever being the wonderful man and doing his best to help us out, hooked up our computer to our 55" Big Screen TV. It was such a blast! My fondest memory is the first game I played, the first Protoss Mission, on a giant screen TV with my keyboard and mouse on a TV dinner tray, with my brother, my father, and I all fighting for a turn at the game. It wasn't long after that I decided to go online and play against other players. Soon after, in 1998, I found an awesome clan and an amazing group of friends that I've played with to this day. Clan meetings, the long fights between people, the debates for leadership, and the overall concern of the clan are all great memories, and to this day my favorite days of my life on the internet. I've even met a few of the people that I played with online. I've never had more fun with just a game before, and probably never will again. I still play this game just about every day, it's that addicting to me. This post has been edited by TheEvilEye on 31st March 2004 15:06 |

You will probably all think this is stupid but I'm addicted to DDR (Dance Dance Revolution) I've been playing it for over a year and a half...although I only play at the arcade because the home pads suck since I can pass every song you can name on heavy.I had a soft home pad once and I ripped it in half playing and then I got a metal pad but the arrows broke because I stomp to get accurate steps.I'd say over all I only spend about $5 a day playing since I never have to play long to get good scores.

It's a surprise to me, but I'm not addicted in the least. When I was in school I used to play within the moderate to frequent range, and now I play even less despite my love for FF and Street Fighter. It may shock you that I didn't bring any video game system with me when I moved here (California) for college. 4 straight months of not playin = no addiction.

I've had some kind of gaming addiction for most of my life. It started with Mario Bros. for the Atari 2600. When the Nintendo came out my addiction moved to The Legend of Zelda and Final Fantasy. Since then there's been countless games that consumed countless hours of my life, including undisputed greats like Crono Trigger, FFIV, Zelda: A Link to the Past, FFVI, and many others. Most recently I've been playing Xenosaga. I can't believe I didn't get this game sooner. It's been a long time since I've played a game with such a great storyline. As soon as I can get some money scrounged up I'm going to go look for a copy of Xenogears, I never got a chance to play it.
All in all I've been addicted to video games for 17 years and I don't see that changing anytime soon ![]() -------------------- Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned for Final Fantasy! |

I think you're able to get control over the gaming addiction with age - usually. I myself used to be very easily addicted to games, but now it's a lot less so, and I can stop almost anytime unless the game is really, really good.
I'm not sure if it's the game itself that is the addiction, as the thrill of being able to escape and immerse yourself into another world. And, if you would be just bored otherwise, being busily into a game isn't all that bad. -------------------- I had an old signature. Now I've changed it. |

Yeah, I'm in the same league with Elena. I used to be addicted (i mean hooked) to NES, then Sega, and Playstation. But it's much less so now. I can still get games that I'll get hooked on for a while, but it doesn't last more than a couple days. (I still have to finish FFX-2, Max Payne 2, and GTA: Vice City). However, worst of my addictions by far was Starcraft. Wow, have I wasted alot of my "should be out socializing" aspect of my life.

I definitely lost a big chunk of my time in college to Starcraft. I lost a good chunk of the first year of grad school to Warcraft III. I'm living pretty clean now, but I'm pretty sure this is just the calm before the storm.

I never really get addicted to anything unless it's a very awesome game. First game I was addicted to: FFVI, then I played FFIV for almost 2 years straight...only game I ever played during that time, because it was the only one that I owned that I had liked (seriously). Last game I was addicted to had to have been Tales of Phantasia, I played that 24/7 until I beat it.

I am starting to play Mario & Luigi for GBA because my friend let me borrow it, I like the battle system, but sometimes it can be a bit confusing. And I am still playing FF Tactics Adv., but now I can't stop enjoying FFX, after 130 hours on my file it is still fun, I am capturing monsters again. Also I am playing more Starcraft (and Brood War). Good Games.

Addicted to Final Fantasy ever since I layed hands on Final Fantasy II (4j). Addicted to Command & Conquer ever since my 8th grade English teacher lent me his CD. Addicted to the Star Wars: X-Wing lineage ever since I figured out what Star Wars was all about. Addicted to RPGs ever since I ran out of Final Fantasies to play. Addicted to RTSs ever since someone showed me StarCraft.
::looks back on list:: I'd... rather not talk about my gaming addictions anymore. They seem to be deeply rooted. |
