I personally regard it as a Dropship in the manner of an Adeptus Astartes Thunderhawk, but i wonder what others think? The Ragnaroks an interesting ship in that It was orginally a Military vehicle: It did orginally belong to Esthar, so it was an Air Force unit i guess. But its not really an Airship, is it?
What does everyone else think of one of the only cool things from FF8? NB: for those of you wondering why theres fighter, bomber, fighter-bomber, its because the three are different types of Aircraft... I'v enever seen any bomb bays aboar the Ragnarok mind... Dropship means a ship capable of Orbital landing: IE a ship that could fly from the moon, land on earth, then go back. Edit Changed topic title slightly due to some thinking I'm on about a sword.... Let me make this clear: we are not talking about a close combat weapon!* We are talking about what you classify the Ragnarok air/spacecraft from FF8 as. *well, I'm not... hell yeah man. its a ship. its in the air. its an airship. not to mention probably the coolest looking airship ever in a final fantasy game, even though its a little too slow for my taste.

Sword. It's definitely got to be a sword.
Final Fantasy VI proves that it is, lol. But if we are talking game wise and not it's original meaning, I believe that the ragnarok is a sword. It has been in about every ff game and it has always been a weapon, with the exception of FFVIII. I forget about it's original meaning and where it first came from. Heh, looks like I'll be researching on that tonight. -------------------- I will be the mustard of your doom! |

It just seems to me like it's an Airship considering most ships in FFs are...and also the Ragnarok isn't just a sword in FF6, I can think of at least two others that it was a sword in (one of those being made before 6 and one after). So I wouldn't just say that it's a sword in FF6.

All though Air Ship Technically could be used for anyterm that is both a "ship like craft" ie space ship, and fly's its not an airship. The FF airship i have come to know and love was boat like and flew, or was zepplin like in appearance, which is fine considering the deriggible i believe was called the first "AirShip". The highwind stretched it although it did pull it off in my mind. The ragnarok is obviously a spaceship. It didn't even remotely come close to AirShip. It was a dragon shape- didn't contain the propellors (the most important part) and Flew in space. this also means the big whale wasn't an Airship. Air ships fly in air. Space ships fly in space, air ships fly in air. Although the ragnarok may have been available to fly in air it was designed for space.

I consider the Ragnarok an airship first a spaceship second. Its main purpose is to fly the characters around to its main destination. It just happened to be in space when Squall and Rinoa found it.

It's pretty clearly a spaceship. It flies. In space. There are space suits on board. There were alien thingys on it. It was, however, a very lame space ship. I can't beleive wasted the Ragnarok name on it.

The Ragnarok is like a combination of an airship and a spaceship.
A spaceship is a vehicle that can go from Earth to space, trave in space, but cannot travel on Earth. The Magical Ship/Big Whale from IV shows that an airship can go into space and still be considered an airship. Different games, but airships is a recurring theme that doesn't really have major differences from game to game. Eshtar built it as a spaceship among two other identical models to haul Adel into space. Then, they were dismantled or forgotten.

I haven't played FFVIII since 2001, so I am a bit rusty about that game, i think it is a spaceship, though.
Edit Recently I played a lot of FFVIII, and after seeing the FMV with when Possible spoilers: highlight to view I think it is a war Machine with all of theat arament it had.the Ragnarok blows open a hole into the Lunatic Pandora, This post has been edited by GamblingCat on 29th June 2004 18:15 |
