I'm curious about peoples' fighting styles.
I for one almost never use spells like Sleep or Muddle or Bserk. I find that most of the enemies in the game are either immune to them or can easily be killed without having to use them. To me, using one of those spells is like wasting a turn I could have spent attacking or healing. I play FF6 like I play most other RPGs: all-out attacks. I boost strength, equip myself with the best weapons available and I go with all out attacks, stopping occasionally to heal/revive anyone who's been hurt/killed. My favourite thing to do in FF6 is equip Sabin with a Genji Glove and a Hyper Wrist. When you first get him, this results in a Vigor of 70 and a battle power over or near 200 (a single weaponed character has about 80-90...if their lucky). This always results in mass damage dealing. I almost never use his Blitzes unless I feel like watching one because they're cool. I figure I can either deal a large amount of damage, or about 3/4 of that damage twice. Anyway, what are your thoughts? ![]() This post has been edited by sbq92 on 8th April 2004 22:39 -------------------- --sbq92 <>< |

Im an all out attack kind of guy. And im with the whole bandwagon with Sabin and the genji glove, but rather than the hyper wrist i use an offering. Then Mog and Shadow will usually just go nuts with attacks and Strago brings up the rear with a barrage of magical attacks, so im kind of physical/magical attack.

I guess I'm other, since I use each character's unique ability quite often.

I put defense first meaning it's mandatory that everyone has a sheild and other defensive equipment including defensive relics. In actual combat though I mostly use physical attacks like Gau's Catscratch and Sabin's Blitzes. Battles end very quickly that way without my guys taking much damage. Most of the time when I use offensive magic it's magic included with weapons like Ragnarok for example. I give Gau the Merit Award and a Ragnarok and he does a Catscratch plus Flare. Or early in the game I'll have Gau use rages like Templar and Aspik. This is effective because Gau can cast spells that you don't normally get until much later in the game, making them more useful than the available physical attacks due to multiple enemy targetting. In most cases physical attacks are more powerful than offensive magic unless an enemy is weak to an element, you're using Ultima or your character has a very weak physical attack. Getting Ultima takes a long time when you don't get the Ragnarok esper so I usually don't even bother getting the spell. Building up a collection of characters with powerful physical attacks is just as effective. I like to save magic for healing purposes only.

each char equipped with genji glove...with matching weapons...shadow (fav and most powerful char i have) has that stunner and striker also has the blackbelt and offering. Magic is rare...usually cure3 and life2/3...unless i find a weak point in a boss's magic defense, though sometimes i use phantom and Float on everyone just to make em hard to hit/invuln to quake and magnitude 8. Hero ring on everyone too cept for my second strongest...which has sprint shoes just because i need to go fast...

I go in, swords blazing... well, most of the time. Early on, it's a good tactic, but later on, I find that I use more magic offensive. But my vote goes to strong Physical Offensive.

Through the many RPGs I've played the mentality that limited attacks like Magic should best be saved unless absolutely necessary. In FFVI I've never gotten an Economizer (Even though I've killed >5 Brachosaurs), but that's all right, since there's Osmose if I don't have MP. So I don't often use magic, unless I use magic characters like Terra or Relm.
I also find that the enemies don't do that much damage to you most of the time. So I ditch the defensive dring these circumstances and go in and whack them with my best infinite-use techs, which usually are superior to "Fight". Of course, i haven't played the Expert Version yet, in which defensive techs will probably be necessary. -------------------- Student of CCS, Grandmaster of Alternative Literature and Musical Passionista at your service!!! |

With characters who have special abilities that can damage the entire enemy party, I try to use those more often as well as develop the damage of those attacks (autocrossbow, air blade, skeans, etc.). Of the remaining characters, I choose three of them to dual wield with genji gloves (more often than not Terra, Locke, and Cyan) to perform old fashioned hack n' slash. Any remaining characters that I might use become magic specialists (and by that I mean they heal, and possibly throw in an offensive spell every now and then).

I voted other, because i tend to use everybodys skills and abilitys when they are needed. For example, if a boss is getting 2x as many turns as I am, I'll use slow. I also tend to use Special abilities alot, and like Harry_Kinomoto, I save magic until i absolutely need it.

I usually stick with using only weapon attacks or free (i.e. no item/MP use) skills that do more damage than attacking (e.g. Tools, Blitz). But on most bosses (the ones that don't require strategy), I may use more magic. I ordinarily use magic only for healing, though.
On very tough enemies (e.g. Goddess, AtmaWeapon, Pug, Tyranosaur), I may decide to lay it on thick and throw out the best magic I have, though. However, the first time I beat Kefka, I took out the first three tiers using pretty much exclusively physical attacks, using magic only for healing. Then when I got to Kefka, I creamed him with magic, and I felt he was a bit too easy to defeat (I was at levels 46-51). Edit: One more thing: I almost never use status magic. While physical attacks are always a good way to go, often its the easiest, and I always like a challenge.
Thus, I turn to magic. Granted, you need patience to learn all the Blue Mage spells, gain all the magicite, and get the reclusive Economizer, but its worth it in the end. After all, casting Meteor on everything while costing only 1 MP is time well invested, in my book. -------------------- Think about this concept for a second, and you tell me that you would not think twice before purchasing it: ghetto breast milk |

While my strategy depends on the character, I usually opt for a more physical attack oriented route. I have characters like Terra, Celes, Locke, Mog (yes Mog), and Umaro (no blizz orb) attacking, Sabin, Gogo, Cyan, Shadow, Edgar, Gau and Setzer using special attacks with Relm and Strago totally magic dependant (Strago usually a lore man). I only mix it up with Terra or Celes sometimes getting a gem box and a bunch of magic power increasing items to turn into spell casters. Magic is extremely strong at most levels and often neglected because it takes time to learn everything you need to be effective.

I usually use the physical offensive method through the entire game, until late in the WOR, because I like to learn Lore, Rage, Magic and use them often. I like to make the battle as long as possible just for fun, but I think that I'll become magical offensive - defensive sooner in the EV2

Mainly physical offensive and some good magic spells. (Like fire, etc.)

I also like to summon if I can. I don't know if that was in the poll but I wanted to add that to my other post.

I go with physical-offensive. It makes the game go a lot faster through the boring parts where you aren't really doing anything but walking from Point A to Point B. If I'm in a battle where I want to learn something (like a Lore), then I will just do spells to regain lost MP and damage the MP of the enemy (Osmose & Rasp, respectively). It's really just a situational thing for me...

I mostly use physical attacks against regular enemies. I'll use magic against tough enemies or bosses, and also when there's free MP healing close.

I use magic hardcore, Terra, Celes, Relm, Strago, sometimes Gau, Mog, Locke, but I also give everyone the most hardcore swords too and just pound the shit out of basic enemies.

It all depends on who I'm fighting at the time. If its a tyrannosaur or a brachosaur, or any of the statues, I'll probably use magic. On everything else, I'll use physical attacks or get creative with my enemies and torment them a bit (ie. take off bits and pieces of their energy by use of demi or something like that).
