Mine is Terran. Balanced Race is good. Zerg are cool, Protoss are okay. The Terran Race is useful.

i accidently clicked the prtoss button. i really meant the zerg cause zerg you can rush fast, and if they attack in squads, you can really kill the enemy. o yah, not to meantion there really cheap

Among the ranks of CoN, I'm known as one of the few Protoss players. I don't know exactly what about them appeals to me so much, but I think that I have the mind for the Protoss game; out-thinking and out-maneuvering your opponent with an eye on the value of each unit is key for me. Plus I love Psionic Storm, and the legions of total newbies who will cuss you out for using it. "u redy fo lings biatch?! omg psistorm u noob god! uh i hav basebal practice we play latr k???"

One of the best things about Starcraft is that there's no true best or worst race. You could argue about it for years (and people have), but when it comes right down to it, SC is the only RTS in recent memory with perfectly balanced races. There's a counter for everything, and ultimately victory is spelled out in the skill of the player, not the quality of his vehicle.

For the moment, I went with all. I like too many things about all of the races to pick one, and sice I pretty much bite with them all (I'm a noob, you'll have to forgive me) that wasn't enough of a factor to nudge one race ahead of the others.

I can play every race. Not the best, but I could manage. My favorite race would still probobly be zerg, I can do good with them. But lately, I havent been using them much. I want to be equaly skilled with each race, so I practice with terran and protoss.

Hail to the almighty protoss, for they are my favorites, lol. Zerg are fine and all but u need an awful lot to be any kind of threat. (My apologizes to any Zerg fans who disagree) and the Terain are to commonly used for my liking. I know Protoss cost more but their shields provide the extra boost that i need in some missions.

Tarren hands down. When i played all the time, i played 7v1 no rush and me and my 2 buddys teamed up against everyone.. one zerg,one toss,and me. id just rush upg to nukes and blast the hell outta people and watched as everyone was crushed by mass hydras and zeals... good stuff

I like every race, and can play each one with decent capability. I like the Zerg's speed and ability to create armies with very little time compared to the other races. I also like the Protoss' ability to counter any strategy with relative ease, and the fact that their units are powerhouses. They are the masters of deception, of making the opponent think you are doing one thing, then doing something completely different. They are the best at attacking an enemy when they aren't ready, in a place of your choosing, because the Protoss are an easy race to mobilize.

But my favorite is Terran. Terran is THE unique race IMO, even though the other two races are alien. There's just so many tactics you can use that can't be found in the other two races, and the application of these techniques can be simple yet devastating. Vulture mines, Terran Siege Tanks, Marine+Medic combinations, and even Sci Vessels can make for some very crazy strategies. I think the Terrans are the most versatile, and they are the best at fighting on their own ground (or making the enemy come to you to a location of your choosing). Though they are very difficult to mobilize and get into position when they are on the move, they make up for it when they are set up and make the enemy attack them. Terran gets my vote.

The race I have the most success using is probably the Protoss, but I like using the Terrans more. Their unit animations are pretty nifty (Seige Tank transformation is my favorite). Also, the Goliath looks pretty cool to me (although I don't really employ them all that much except when I need withering anti-air support) because they remind of the ED-209 from Robocop.

I voted Zerg which is what I usually use but also alot of the time it's just whatever I feel like using.

Zerg. I love the Zerg, they're so awesome. I usually do my rushing with the Zergs. They are so fast at training... or uh, creating.
I also like using Zerg in big games. I get like a ton of the air Zergs, and Hydrolisks(sp?), ahh, it's so fun.
I like the Terran too. But, they're not that great. I don't really care for the Protoss.

Are you saying that using a bunch of Sunken colonies is good? If so, belkieve me, I have been taught, and taught well. The only time you need stationary defense is early game against rushes. Later, you'll have all the units you need, and if you don't have detectors (Sci Vessles, Observers, Overlords) patrolling your base...well then, you may deserve to lose.

Defense is there to support your units and give you the upper hand. It's plain stupid not to take advantage of some well placed bunkers/sunkens/photons. Leaving your base defenseless is just suicide. Sure, you have a huge army roaming around and a cache of troops at your base, but if your army's on the other side of the map and you get attacked, it's whomp city. You need something to take up some time and make a little headroom before your army can return.

I think they all have good ways of defending and attacking, depending on how u see it:

'toss:attak'-carriers/drk.templars Def-cannons/'goons/observ.

Zerg:attak'-lurks/hydra/guard./ultra Def-colonies/overlords/Devour.

terran:attak'-Goliaths/tanks/valks Def-missile tur./sci.vessel/ghost?

Plus others i not menciona.
(I personally prefer Zerg for their low cost and ez mass attak.) thumbup.gif

Well, yeah, you need SOME but not bunches. Also, late game, your money is better spent getting units than cannons. For Example. I was playing Toss vs Toss against some noob. He mass cannoned. I used 3 reavers, and 9 goons, and wiped him out. If he had spent some of those mins on something else *coff*scouts*coff* He coulda ruled me (this was back when I was an early game upgrader. I had fully upgraded all of my ground units, gotten reavers, upgraded them, etc before I even had a Star Gate thingy. What a waste.) Anyways, I'm not saying that stationary D is bad in and of itself. It is downright helpful in some situations. I have simply learned through experience (Oh, and painful experiences they were) that most of the time, it is better to go with mobile units. One thing that springs to my mind is the fact that each race has a ground attacking unit that has a greater range than all of the stationary D builds. No amount of cannons will stop a single Defender, Seige Tank, or Reaver. The simple truth is that you need mobile units more than stationary D.

Zerg are easy if the other guy leaves you alone long enough to mass Guardians and Mutalisks.
Protoss are kinda hard to deal with because there isn't any real "all-around" unit, like the other two.
I kinda like using Terran because their set-up seems to make more sense. Yay human military. Plus, playing them first might have something to do with it.

Now, granted a nice lurk drop can work wonders, but if you aren't grouping lurks as a generalized defensive unit, then I don't know where to start.

I think the closest thing there is to a truly defensive unit is the Goliath, at least in the anti-air sense. Against other land units of equal cost, they don't seem to fare well, at least my experience. Every other unit that can be thought of as "defensive" has viable offensive applications too.

The matches you guys are describing seem very strange to me. Are you playing on Big Game Hunters? I guess that'd explain a lot, or if you just fight standard players. The good matches are (i dont know if they are anymore, but I think some good players can still be found there) in channel clan x17.

Goliaths are quite an impressive unit. Even a unit of goliaths set loose upon the zerg can be quite devastative. Watch them rip up zerglings and hydralisks. Oh, they're coming at you with air? That's their specialty! Or, pop their overlords with ease, or gang up on sunken colonies. Probably their biggest trouble is if they're fighting uphill, or trying to get up a ramp. But then, that's what siege tanks are for. The argument that they can't fight ground well is problematic, but again, that's not their primary job.

And DP, if you let an enemy mass guardians, you deserve to die a horrible death, even though they're the easiest unit to counter.

The serious games I play involve a lot of magic. Zerg vs Terran is quite an impressive match to watch if both sides know what they're doing. On one hand, the zerg can keep the terran on edge with lurkers, forcing them to be aware of every step they take. Combine them with defilers, swarm over them (they can still kill anything within the swarm) for some protective damage to gain some ground. On the other hands, you have terran siege tanks there, but without Defensive Matrix and Irradiation to kill those defilers or even the odd lurker or two (the best way to irradiate is to get two sci vessels, radiate each other, and fly them over enemy mineral lines or units) then they have an extremely hard time.

I meant a basic unit that is somewhat decent against all angles. Terrans have Marines, Zerg have Hydralisks. The closest Protoss have are Dragoons, but they are too slow.

That's because Protoss are the counter race. They're already quite strong, so an "all-around" unit that is easy to move would be absurd. They must constantly be observant of the enemy, and notice what they have or do not have, and use their weakness against them. Does the terran have detection? No? Use Dark Templar and you will probably win right then and there. Are you facing a lot of zerg ground? Gather High Templar and storm. Is your scouting showing you mass air? Corsairs for mutalisks, scouts for guardians/devos. On a map such as Lost Temple, you'd be amazed at what you can get away with with a simple 2-3 zealots early on guarding a ramp with a cannon on the ledge, and/or a shield battery, allowing you to take a gander at opponents forces without being vulnerable to rushes. You must constantly scout, and as early as possible. Not scouting is just plain rediculous.

Another protoss strategy is to fake out the enemy. If they are scouting you, immediately build a building to let the opponent predict what you plan on building, and then build something else. For example, say an opponent scouts you early on. If you had planned on rushing, build an assimilator. This cues the enemy in to the idea that you are teching, and may try to rush you. If it's later, build a building that has a specific unit purpose, such as a templar archives for Dark Templar, or robotics support bay for Reavers. Now, the point is, you build them, and cancel them as soon as the scout is gone. It's kind of hard to avoid terran scouting (comsat), but you can hide your key unit-specialty buildings. The point is to let the enemy think you're building one thing (and thus try to counter it), and then cancel it, and build something else.
