I'm really not surprised (considering the site name) that FF6 won. I voted for it too eh.gif

Here's my opinion on the best of FF-

Story - VII, unquestionably. The best plot twist ever that I'm not ashamed to say I cried at.
Character Develpement - VI. Cloud and Aerith were better in VII, but no one else was developed enough. VI had so many people with complete stories.
Battle system - IV. The innovation of ATB was absolutely groundbreaking, and I believe IV is the best example of excellent use of ATB.
Balance - IV. While the characters are not customizable like in V, they aren't completely interchangeable like in VII, VIII, X, and (sort of, towards the end) VI. Every character has a purpose that you need them for, e.g. a healer, a couple fighters, a mage, etc. If you lose someone important, you gain someone else. Close second to IX.
Replayability - VI. I've played it 9 times before, and it's still fun enough that I've started again.

Overall - FFVI. It doesn't have the best of everything, but it does have the best blend. A close second to IV for being such a classic and innovative RPG, but in the end, I'd be bored playing it more than a couple times because of its linearity.

It's not really much of a twist if you've ever played a FF game before.

FF6 has got to be the best. It's 2D, making it a classic. The music is great, the system great, and the majority of endings and most choices give it high replay value. Make sure you play this game, even if you hate, 'cause you'll come back to play it no matter what.

Final Fantasy 2 (US) (basically FF IV japan)
It has a beautiful story, simple but profound, nice characters, and superb music. It's a moral story, with acts of heroism and inner struggles. It also has brevity - which I partly wish it didn't have, but know is best. This is a fairy tale, with a profound meaning. Which contrasts with some others - the battles I fought to defeat the final villain ... and everything else that happened on the way - who would be interested in that?
The music: It's amazing what Nobuo Uematsu has done with a few lines of MIDI: lovely music that is worth hearing for itself, and plaintively expressive of sadness, joy, nostalgia, or freshness - exactly as needed. There is some excellent music in FF 6 too, but I prefer 2 overall.

Compared to FF6 the story is more coherent. FF6 I find has too many individuals; hard to tie in so many characters and quests into a unified expression - so it is more of an adventure story. Played 3 and 5 too - not particularly enthralled. In 5 you name your own characters and choose who they are (mage, fighter, etc.). This disconnects gameplay from the plot - in the gameplay the characters are not those of the plot, but ones of your own making. Same with 6, where you choose who is fighting at any one time, and where espers get rid of the black mage/white mage distinction. In 4 party composition is given and changed in line with the story.

I voted for FFVI, which I believe to be the pinnacle of the FF series.

1. Isn't there another topic like this one?
2. You won't get any votes for FFXII because used asked "so far" and "have you played".
3. You didn't just leave out a couple; you left out FFI, IIj, IIIj, and FFVIII, and then combined FFIVj, Vj, and VIj into one category named "The Original SNES bomb-@$$ series". And you haven't taken into account FFMQ, FFAdventure, FFLegends, FFL2, and FFL3. Of course, you can't fit all of them anyways, but wouldn't it have been better to at least list these: 1,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,X-2 (given a 10-choice limit)?

Edit: The topic has been merged with an older topic. The above three statements fail to apply any longer.

Yeah, I was confused as well. If FF Chronicles is what I'm thinking of (CT plus 4j), are we counting Chrono Trigger as an FF game?

This has to be the 11th billion time I have seen a "what is you favorite FF game" on this poll and I will always vote FF6. Of course, I am very confused by the choices presented. When you say the "original SNES bomb-a$$ series" which games are you talking about, FF6 (FF3 US version), FF4 (FF2 US version)? And the whole thing about putting FFXII in there, what is that about? Just list them by their damn names next time and do not put in games that have not even been released yet.

Good thing someone made one of these threads. It's just what we needed on our "search for other topics, because everything's already been done" FF Board.

FFVI, the pinnacle of Final Fantasy. No other FF beats FFVI in terms of storyline, music, battle design, and character design.

Yeah, FFVI wins my vote. I used to think FFVII was the best, but then I really thought about it and now I think FFVI is. I love FFVI, though FFVII is awesome too. happy.gif

FF VI was good but I'm still gonna go ahead and say FF VIIbecause I've been playing it since it came out and it's the only one that getstwice as fun everytime I play it.I always have to give the others a break so they don't get old but this one I can play constantly.

I only merged this with something else three days ago!

Please check if a topic already exists, at least within recent posts, before reposting it. (And no, the difference between favourite/best FF isn't enough.)

And if it's something so obvious as "Best (something)" you can usually assume that it does already exist.

Note to other passing mods: the new double posts in this topic come from merging separate topics, so don't beat anyone up about it.

FF6 is great game, but it is way to easy. FF4 is best because of the challenge it brings, game play, great story line, great charaters, and by far the best music.

Here is the list of my favorites.
FF4
FF5
FF2
FF7
FF6
FF1
FF8
FF9
FFx

Necrophobia makes a compelling argument, but I'm sticking with FF6 because of its incredible depth. The number and quality of sidequests is excellent, and there're so many other random things to do (all Imp party, fun in the dinosaur forest, etc.). I think that the air of mystery really adds something to the game as well, from the Gau quote in Vector to Baram, and who can forget the holy grail of all videogame mysteries, Gogo?

odd, I thought I had a post in this topic, but mine is a tie with FFIX and FFX, VI is second, and Tactics Advance is 3rd.
