I've always like Squaresoft better, not just for the name but for the classic games they produced. It's also one of the names i've recognized longer, when i first heard of Squarenix i thought "Who the hell are they?" then i heard that squaresoft changed their name. Of course i didnt know Enix was a company before this either.

Well, I voted SquareSoft because they've proven themselves better, in my opinion. But SquareEnix may soon prove themselves too--you never know.

I strongly prefer SquareSoft. I don't know what else to say... I mean, Square-enix just made FF games sound bad. I think all the new FFs that will come out will not be good. I think Square merging with Enix was a bad idea, though I think they kind of needed to(Squaresoft was going bankrupt?). I don't remember the reason why they merged.
I do not care for many of the new games Square-Enix has been creating. And I think many furture games or FFs will only be crap. ![]() This post has been edited by ffpianomaster on 6th April 2004 04:35 |

In this case familiarity does not breed contempt. Squaresoft proved itself over and over again, which is something Squarenix still needs to do in my eyes.

I like the name Squaresoft better. I disagree with the merger being a bad idea, I think it was a very wise move. Sure Squaresoft had proven themeselves more then Enix on these shores, but Japan is a different matter. The Dragon Quest series is the only series to outsell Final Fantasy in Japan. The fact that these two beasts joined together can olny lead to better things. The revenue from DQ and FF, not to mention all their other games, will help both series out immeasurably. I think they should just change the name they have now to Squenix.

I'm pretty sure there was another topic like this, but I can't seem to find it. If anyone does, please point it out here and someone will merge it.
In terms of the name, I'm not bothered. Squaresoft tended to be referred to as just Square anyway, and Square Enix is just the same thing with another word, isn't it? It's not all one word or anything stupid like that. In terms of what they're doing game-wise, what do you have to judge them on yet? I'd like to know where the accusations of "made there story lines really bad" come from, especially since Square alone have made their own bad storylines in the past anyway. |

I'm the only one who went for Square Enix. It's two words, not one. Twice the words and not soft. Still, they could've chose Squarenix. I've played quite a few Enix games, and there's a reason Enix sells better (and hoarded more) in Japan than in the US. I got tired of the Squaresoft logo, it got everywhere like that blasted Kirkland trademark. Aesthetics aside, the merger promises two reputable company thinktanks at the helm of RPG making.

Two Words. Unlimited Saga. I place the blame on the "Enix" side for producing what is possibly the worst RPG ever made. After all, the saga series belonged to Enix to begin with. Now Square's name is forever tarnished. If you played it, you know what I mean.

Personally I thought that Squaresoft was much much better than Squenix...I think Enix just kinda ruined Squaresoft gaming...boo enix!!

It was economical, not at all a fan-pleaser.
EDIT: The Ancient, I just checked the developer for all of the SaGa series. It's Square, NOT Enix. This post has been edited by SaintWeapon on 8th April 2004 05:28 |

Squaresoft first introduced me into the series, the genre, and got me locked into gaming completely, whether that's a good thing or a bad thing. I agree, Enix and now Squenix have done a lot of good things, but Squaresoft is still better at the moment. I still don't know why they merged, though. -Were- Squaresoft going bankrupt? I find that hard to believe.

Think of it this way: Name another RPG producer on the scale of Enix and Square. Apply Adam Smith to the equation, and TA-DA! Square Enix.

I definitely prefer Squaresoft, mostly for nostalgic reasons, as that was the company's name back in what I consider the golden age of RPGs, but also because I think it's healthier for Enix and Square to stay separate and compete.
