I was wondering....
I have been fighting monsters on the Veldt to get the fights for the Paladin Shield (I certainly hope that't not some dumb rumor that I fell for), and since I have a fast forward key I never noticed before, but the monsters aren't giving me experience! Is that a glitch? or did they want to be mean to me... -------------------- "There's always a Siren, singing you to shipwreck" - There There, Radiohead |

Veldt battles do not give you experience. I'm not even sure that they increase your counter for the paladin shield.

No, it's not a glitch, monsters never give EXP on the veldt, whether ur on the snes or the emulator. just part of the game i guess. And no the paladin shield isn't a rumor, it really works.

And Veldt battles do count towards the Shield counter unless Gau leaps/comes back.

If you are looking for a good place to just increase the paladin shields counter quickly, the basement of the house in south figaro is the best. The enemies there are still the same ones from the WoB.

Solitary Island and the peninsula east of Kefka's Tower (where are the dark winds and leafers) are good places too.

Goonies is right. The Solitary Island is a good place or Paladin Shielding. In fact, it is arguably the best place. The enemies there all have 1 HP (I think...very low, anyway) and they give 1 Exp and 1 MP per battle. And, they die themselves if you don't touch anything! Plus, with the 1 Exp thing, you can check your Experience Points before starting, then follow it to see how many battles you have to go!

hmm... I put the Ribbon on the character with the Cursed Shield, which got rid of his confusion, and allowed me to use the character, but I am pretty sure I have done at least 255 battles, and it still isn't working. Maybe the Ribbon is a problem?

No, the ribbon isn't a problem. You can equip anything on someone who has the Cursed Shield wihtout stop the counter. You can equip the Shield on someone else. You can stop to Paladin Shielding and continue later. This won't reset/stop the counter. I know, the first time it seems so long. Be patient Eleion, your reward will come soon.

But, but, but... there's no way I couldn't have done 255... I'm going to die from repetition... ugh...

If you find that too long, can you always continue your playthrough with Cursed Shield and Ribbon equipped on someone. And someday, after hundreds of thousands of millions of hours of playing, you receive the holy message from the god himself, «the curse has been removed» or something like that.

Ok, I've gone through the Magic Tower, Ebot's Rock, hours on the Veldt, hours in the forest north of the Veldt, and hour killing little things on the Solitary Island, and yet it still hasn't uncursed... bah...

If you are sure that you have done 256 battles, but still it doesn't uncursed, do this. Take a pencil and a sheet of paper and draw a bar each time that you win a battle. After 256 battles, if your shield haven't urcursed yet, there is a problem.

I tried to 'uncurse' the cursed ring by fighting 256 battles.
Alas it did not work, but I did have mega-tough characters as a result though! -------------------- Chrono Triggers rock super-group: Ozzie - lead singer from Black Sabbath Flea - Bassist from Red Hot Chilli Peppers Slash - Guitarist from Guns 'n' Roses He drinks and smokes his cares away His heart is in the lonely way Living in the ruins Of a castle built on sand... I hope you don't have the shield on Gogo because he can't uncurse the shield. When I uncursed the shield in my last game I went through Narshe, Cyan's dream, the ancient castle cave, the Mage Tower, hours in the dragon forest and hours on Expert Version 2's custom island. Your cursed shield should uncurse any time if you haven't been using it on Gogo.

Is there a certain reason that Gogo can't uncurse the shield, or is it just "one of those things?"
