Really, none of the FF games are in the same "world" per se. At best there would be HUGE time lapses in between games, note the different shapes of the world, and different references to things in game history (like in FF6 everyone talks about the War of the Magi, but not in any other game).

The FF games are all basically in their own fantasy worlds. Mako doesn't exist in FFV; there was never a War of the Magi in FFIV; a Cleft of Dimension doesn't appear in FFIII. While there are a few possible links, they are unimportant and usually very minor, such as the following famous exchange in FFII:
woman: Light Warriors, revive the power of the Orbs! Guy: Shut up. -------------------- Check the "What games are you playing at the moment?" thread for updates on what I've been playing. Quote (Enelya @ 2nd April 2004 01:20) then is ff4 and ff9 the same world? because ff9 is the whole "the crystal comes back" sorta thing. like i know they're totally different landscape, but... Th last game that used crystals was FF5. besides FF9 didn't really have crystals. I don't consider it a crystal game anyway. -------------------- If you've been mod-o-fied, It's an illusion, and you're in-between. "The Crystal Comes Back" was more of a slogan in general Final Fantasy, not in the game. That's why I don't think you can look at that for evidence of them being the same world.
FF9 spoiler: Possible spoilers: highlight to view No civilians in FF9 really know about the crystal...it's just kind of there. The only people that learn about its existence are Kuja, the party, Necron, and possibly Garland. So nobody there would be like "The Crystal is back!" -------------------- Hey, put the cellphone down for a while In the night there is something wild Can you hear it breathing?
