Last Saturday I went and saw Kevin Smith's masterpeice, Jersey Girl. It is an EXCELLANT movie, in fact I would call it a film. Although it lacks the dick and fart jokes that are ever so dominant in his other films, Clerks, Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Dogma and Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, it still holds a few jokes of equal if not greater quality. The story alone seems a bit over worn, but the presentation, the dialogue and overall acting is absolutely genius, it even made me tear up a lil bit on some of the scenes. What do you guys think, assuming you've seen it, and what do you anticipate the quality to be if you havent seen it.

I haven't seen this one yet, but I expect nothing short of perfection. Kevin Smith is the BEST. I loved all of his other movies, and to this day "Chasing Amy" is the only movie that can make me cry.

It seems to me that Kevin Smith is a bit underrated, and I don't understand why. He makes the kind of movie I can sit down & watch a couple times a night, and then when it gets completely old, I just wait a week and it's like brand new.

I haven't seen Jersey Girl yet, truth is I haven't even heard of it until I saw Confewzd post. You can bet I'll see it next chance I have. thumbup.gif

I haven't seen it and do not plan to see it. While I like some of Smith's movies, especially Mallrats and Dogma, I will never see this. One of the reasons I liked those movies was either Ben Afflack was a putz (not the word I would normally use for him but this is a family forum) or dies so that makes me happy. I have hated him ever since he made Pearl Harbor and as a history teacher (student teacher that is) I just cannot believe how stupid the movie was. So I will never see him in a movie where he is the "hero" even though George Collins is in it. Plus I do not have much respect for Liv Tyler either so that is why. It may very well be funny but I would rather see Hellboy then see Jersey Girl, and Hellboy looks absolutly pathetic.

I saw this movie this saturday as well, and I teared up on more than just a few scenes. I would definately said that this movie isn't what you'd expect considering Smith's past films, but in a good way. I'll have to agree with BGrugby as in I don't like Ben Affleck all that much, but I'll say this that Smith has the miraculous ability to bring out stellar performances from this guy and he does it in Jersey Girl. You should see it especially if you're a parent, it is a really really good movie.

I imagine BGRugby meant George Carlin, not collins, but yes, I must agree with him as well, Affleck isnt THAT good of an actor, hense why I was so impressed with Jersey Girl, for some reason Smith has some magical ability that allows him to draw the true potential from his actors. The only thing about the movie that pissed me off was Jason Lee only had a 10 sec part. But other than that it was golden.

I saw it friday, and I only thought it was okay.

I don't know... I like most of Kevin's other movies, but this one I was just kinda impressed by. It was just alright in my opinion..... Kevin did pull out the best in Ben, like others have said, but I can't explain what it was that made me just kinda say at the end, "Eh... It was alright." I liked it better then Mallrats, and I haven't seen Clerks, but I liked Chasing Amy, Dogma, and Jay and Silent Bob better.

Saw Jersey Girl yesterday and I have to say I really enjoyed it. It was completely different from the other movies Kevin Smith made, but it shows that he can do different kinds of movie and still make them good. I was amazed how Smith was able to get an awsome performance out of Ben Affleck. To me the movie was fuuny, it had romance, and drama. So it was very good. I would even go see it again. And yes I did get a little teary eye on some parts. So if people haven't seen it they should go see it.
