It seems that in many epic movies (LotR) and many games, specifically RPGs (CT), that the main characters split up at the end. It seems that after all they've been through, they'd all just be friends forever, and live like all in the same place. What do you guys think?

Its like that to piss off people like you Figgy tongue.gif

But in some cases, it brings alot to the plot and makes a more dramatic ending. If you've read or listened carefully to LOTR, then you know why they have to split up. If they would of all stayed together, it would of been a dumb ending.

Yeah, I barely post.

Well, in a lot of these epic-adventure stories, a number of protagonists, who would mainly otherwise be unrelated, come together to fight some greater evil. So after that evil is defeated, it would just be logical for them to return to their ordinary lives.

Well I know why they broke up in LoTR. It's because... well just picture this.
Your a 6 foot tall human/elf, and bam you walk into a beam. Ouch. You step back dazed and bam hit your head against another beam. That explains why Aragorn, Gandalf, and (elf guy) didn't cruise in the shie. And for Gimli well he got thrown out after harrrasing some of the local ladies at the bar.

After reading several of your posts Wheatsac, I have not been able to determine wether that post is serious or sarcastic.

Its just like Scooby Doo, they spilt up to look for clues (metephoricaly usualy) or because of some unforeseen circumstance or conflicting intrests.

Splitting up just seems to be one of the cliches in movies. It probably makes it easier for the moviemakers to fill up time and make the plot more complex and stuff. Personally, a far more annoying cliche is the whole premise of romantic movies: guy and a girl meet, fall in love, possibly and most likely sleep together, then one does something to make the other leave, then they find each other in a moment of passion and live happily ever after. Bleh.

Have you ever actually been on an adventure with people? Spend a couple of weeks or months with someone working towards a common goal? Probably not, it's not very common any more. But believe me, if you've spent that much time with someone...you don't want to spend any more with them for awhile once it's over. Not to say you won't always be friends, but the proximity is not neccesary. I think the movies make perfect sense.
