Is it just me sensing this or did anyone else feel like they wasted their time with the whole 'don't let banon die' thing? If u've played through the game (and forgot to train like i did the first time) then hit ultros with banon u really struggle to beat him, then when u finally do he doesn't do squat. Then later u find out he's dissapeared. What's up with that!? What was the point in protecting someone who will show no appreciation and just take off afterwards (sounds like shadow but Shadow is cool and useful for the game, lol) Anyone else feel this way or is it just me?

The game just wanted to make it a point as to how important this guy is. I suppose the Returner intelligence after the Lete River was maintained by Banon. He helped get Narshe to side with the returners and came up with plans as to how they were to attack the Empire. When the world came undone someone important had to die in all that chaos since your main characters are all invincible. It's strange that the game never made it a point to remind you that Banon was gone. It seems like Square forgot all about him when they were making the game. But basically Banon, Arvis and the Narshe Elder were the brains of the operation. The game does little to show Banon's importance after the Lete River but if you think about it it kinda makes sense. The story is far from perfect you know. There are holes here and there. I guess this is just another one of those weak areas.

I always figured Banon had gone into hiding to avoid a possible assassination attempt by the empire. He is the leader of the returners after all...

Some leader. He was Pointless. the returners would have a better feel if they were ragtag outlaws led by locke.

Remember, it was Banon who convinced Terra to actually join the Returners. I think the game underplayed his actual importance by assuming that if they told you he was the leader of the Returners you'd realize his importance on your own. He wasn't a fighter, he was an old man, but clearly there is a reason he leads the Returners. I think his lack of mention in the WoR is cause he's no longer important, there are no Returners, there is no Empire and the world is too steeped in it's own despair to even to take the time to remember the squabbles of the past. Maybe once Kefka is gone, everyone can take the time to remember fallen comrades. If there even are any returners left to remember him.

Banon's just another mystery. Where'd he come from, what happened to him after the Floating Continent, and where did he get that non magic based Health talent?

i personally do not like bannon, but if u got to that part agaisnt ultros and had some trouble, there is a way to make it easy. at the second time when u get to a fork, its Up and Left, keep goin up and ull go in a circle, fight and gain levels. if u have a turbo controller....

Banon didnt do much of anything after the Lete river so I cant help but wonder...why is it HIM you have to protect and not the Tritoch esper during the narshe fight? It woulve been better if he h fought with you.

yeah man banon sucked. covering him in narshe and keeping him around on the river was pointless, you shoulda just been able to push him off the raft.
im still waiting for someone to say banon is duncan because they have the same sprite. if you think this, just shout it out so someone else can yell about how he isnt and an argument can ensue. step on up. -------------------- You watch the world exploding every single night Dancing in the sun, a newborn in the light Say goodbye to gravity and say goodbye to death Hello to eternity and live for every breath Your time will come... |

Quote (MogMaster @ 26th March 2004 10:20) . the returners would have a better feel if they were ragtag outlaws led by locke. I agree, MM, Lokce would make a beeter leader than Banon. Sorry to go off topic. |

I hope Bannon is Duncan because that way things would at least make sense and here is why:
1. Duncan is meditating in Narshe which i where you last see Banon. 2. In WoB Duncan was presumed dead. With Banon/Duncan leading the Returners he would need a new identity. 3. They have the same sprite, just different colors (That goes out to therandyhoards) -------------------- There is a time and a place for everything, and I am niether |

Let's clear this once and for all. BANON ISN'T DUNCAN. I wrote this a few time ago on another topic: Banon isn't Duncan 'cuz Sabin would have recognized his master in the Returner hideout. And any Returner would have recognized him in Duncan house.
Quote Duncan is meditating in Narshe which i where you last see Banon. - The Gambler The last place that you actually see Banon is in Vector after the Espers' attack. And someone said a few time ago that he was propably been dead after that Edgar and the others escaped from Vector. P.S.: This is my first level up!!! 30 posts! I like the Banon part because of his health technique. I admit that it's weird that there's no mention of the old bloke in the WoR, but I thought presuming him dead brought some more poignancy to the game's second half; someone in the WoR should've told you he was dead. That's all that's necessary to fill the plot-hole.

I liked Banon, I mean he added a whole new element to the FF, that not every party member has to be some completely macked out light warriorish type person. This guy led the returners, and you were posing as his body guard, in a way. At the time I wanted to give him a violent shove off the raft cuz I got tired of him dying but then again, when I look back it was really a pretty creative approach they took and I amend them for it.
Oh and a little side note, I'm not sure if anyone new this, or if this is posted here somewhere on CoN but when your parties on the raft and you can select to go certain directions, u basically set the cursor on memory, tape down the button on you controller and keep on selecting the one that makes you go in a circle, and then have it so banon always uses Health. No one will ever die, and you'll get them to a high level without actually being there. I tried this once just before I went to school, just to see if it would work, by the time I got home I was gitty like a school girl to see there levels be monstrous. But overall its pretty boring having 4 high level characters in a low level of the game |

Did you say Makced out? AWSOME! But you also had to act as a bodyguard in FF7 for a while. I dont like the leveling trick...the game is too easy as it is.

Quote (Ejoty @ 26th March 2004 20:12) someone in the WoR should've told you he was dead. That's all that's necessary to fill the plot-hole. Yes, but this can be assumed, without the developers having someone tell us. Banon becomes so insignificant by the latter part of the World of Balance that NO ONE seems to notice he's around and NOT ONE of your characters appears to even be listening to him. For the leader of the Returners he sure as hell wasn't even important enough to be at the Returner-Empire Banquet. Instead he's running around the burning Vector saying "Espers? What ARE you TALKING ABOUT?" When the whole plan was his idea. Edgar and the others escaped Vector when Edgar got to "know" the tea lady in the Empire HQ. If Banon were still relevant at THAT point, he would have been rescued from Vector, too. By this point in the game, he's already so insignificant that he was forgotten about. If Banon wasn't in Vector, he was in Narshe, or in the Returner Hideout, all of which were destroyed at the end of the world. Also another theory *I* have is that the people in Vector didn't die, but were brainwashed and forced into the Cult of Kefka. I think if Banon isn't dead, he and Arvis have been forced to become mindless followers of Kefka. ...Bannon moreso than Arvis, as his "Health" ability indicates just a trace of magical power, and that would make him a likely candidate for brainwashing, just like Strago. A note on Banon's "Health" skill: I checked his pose while preparing to use Health, and it was indeed Banon's "magic casting" sprite pose. He also does some kind of "casting" thing when he uses Health, just before you're healed. Now can Health be absorbed by Runic? I don't know.
Oh yeah, as it has been said that just because Banon and Duncan have the same palette swap, they aren't necessarily the same person: On the other hand, it might be the case that Duncan escaped from Vargas in such a way that looked like he died but then dressed up so well that even Sabin couldn't tell he was Duncan and then Duncan called himself Banon and took it upon himself to be the Returners' leader. But Banon has pretty bad stats and a low level when you get him, though... -------------------- Check the "What games are you playing at the moment?" thread for updates on what I've been playing.
