How many of you can relate when I say that Final Fantasy VI can be a serious part of my life? I'm saying that I can get very passionate about Final Fantasy VI to the point where arguments can erupt and the course of my life can be partially decided for me. I'm saying that Final Fantasy VI was the first RPG I ever played, but I'm sure it changed me to enjoy fantasy video games and fiction writing much more.

Okay. Maybe that's not you, but then again, this is the Caves of Narshe Forum. I'm guessing that many people who come here are set apart from other "normal" people due to their addiction to Final Fantasy VI. Am I right? I attended the FFinsider forums for a while until I discovered they didn't care much about FFVI in the forums (they clumped it together with the five FF games before it!) I especially find myself itching for an argument around FFVII addicts who disrespect the earlier FFs. Does anyone find themselves in this category? After all, I'm sure FFVII fans do not feel swayed by the better graphics in, oh, say, FFVIII, but some of them seem to lift their noses at FFVI.

I'm starting with too much perhaps, but I really hope you guys can help fill me in on some more.

I remember someone once mentioned such a thing as a Final Fantasy VI scholar. Now, I've heard of Joseph Conrad scholars, but a FFVI scholar???... ... I'm almost already there.

I'm with you on most of your post although I do believe there are much more important things in life than FFVI, so I wouldn't really call it my life. At the moment it seems like it though because of my little project in the signature but normally my attention goes towards other things. However I am passionate and will participate in very detailed debates, specifically defending Gau as being the game's most powerful character. Other parts of the game I care less about when it comes to opposing views, especially those based on opinion. I also dislike the FF fans that refuse to give FFVI a good chance because of it being old. However there are people who have played FFVI and FFVII and like FFVII better (or any other newer FF), and I respect that.

FFVI is my favorite game and one of my favorite things to talk about. I suppose you could call me a Final Fantasy VI scholar as well along with a few others on here. So I look forward to seeing your posts Have Stars. Let's talk FFVI. thumbup.gif

I look forward to your posts outside of quiz topics. happy.gif

Anyway, I'm not addicted to FF6 or FF games or even games in general. I'm not much of a gamer anymore.

I don't know the minutae the way that Master Zed or Detah do, and I don't really care to. Some others care to, and that's cool for them, it's just not my thing. I post in here when I have something to say, but you won't see me researching the posts too terribly much. That's for you all to do. happy.gif

While FF6 is not my life..it is the 1st RPG I ever played. RPG's have become a big part of my life, mostly Pen+Paper though.

However Pretty soon I will have been playing FF6 for more than 1/2 of my earthly existence, and the first 3-4 years of that don't even really count..so you could say I've been playing more than half the time that i've been really aware.

That seems to qualify FF6 as important in my book. The only other activies I've been doing for that long are basic survival stuff, school, and reading. It's on the VERY short list.

Wow. Ten people responded to the poll, and three people replied in one day's time. The poll's a good thing then I suppose, though I wouldn't mind reading a post from the people who did the poll if they feel like, even if it's a simple reply, no problem.

In response to the responses... Rangers51, I'm surprised you of all people aren't the most into FFVI, being the Caves of Narshe webmaster. Then again, maybe I don't know what the Caves of Narshe website is all about yet. If I can't ask, surely I'll find out things like what purpose this website was created for. i90east, Gau was the character I most prized in the "decisive battle" for his catscratch move. I don't know what other moves he has, although most characters seem to even out in the game once everyone learns Merton and equips fire shields. I wonder what we could define the FFVI scholar as being? Knowing quiz questions about it or knowing the aesthetic/music/character/plot line appeal of the game? artent, when I think about it, FFVI is coming up on its Tenth Anniversary, meaning that it's been a part of my life for nine years, which is half of my life's existence. On another note, I should have a shorter list like you have, but things--including FFVI--have a habit of turning up on my long ambition list. Maybe I should get used to things being done for me (because the US is already great).

I've scared off other discussion maybe. I take this topic seriously perhaps because I feel like there's no escape from my devotion to FFVI (and no want to escape from it perhaps).

on ANOTHER note

What makes Final Fantasy VI great? I think that's the question that pertains to just why I think about FFVI so much, making it my life. For instance, I was thinking about how much people (including myself) love the love story between Locke and Celes. But I think, how many scenes did that occur over, and did they ever really kiss? I think it's impressive and confusing that they didn't need to. The opera scene is what did it. This pretend stage of love was necessary for a new stage of love, the real love between Locke and Celes to blossom. After all, everyone is competing for Celes, and we no longer think Locke is going after Terra. I take it to the next level, wondering if the reason why fiction books are so great is because we need that pretend stage to elevate our own more boring, non-descript lives to that level. You see how I think FFVI is my life.

Maybe I could instead ask simply how long I've known FFVI (half my life) and how much I miss SNES games, even N64 games when they were simpler graphically and offered easier formulated challenges.

In response to you, perhaps the feature of CoNHistory will help you understand a bit more. Anything else you need to know about me personally, you can ask me in a PM.

I bought FFVI two days after it came out because I couldn't get a ride to pick up my preorder on the first day. So yeah, almost ten years for me, which is about 42% of my life. Do I love the game? Yeah, but I'm just not the kind of person that is excited by it any more. My heart lies in giving people a place so they can share their love for it. So on and so forth.

I chose 'It is a favorite discussion topic of mine.' It goes without saying that FF6 is one of my favorite games. I think most people wouldn't be visiting such a devoted forum if it werent a favorite game.

But anyway, I wouldnt go so far to say that it is my life. Although I suspect that my enthusiasm for the game shows in my posts. I get a little carried away with it sometimes. I currently am playing a low level game. And its lots of fun. But takes forever on a PSX, with those insane reload times an' all. So Ive been devoting less time to it lately. But I will finish it eventually.

But there is no question FF6 is one of my 3 favorite games. The other two are Master of Magic by Microprose and Warlords 3 Darklords Rising by SSG. No matter how many times I play these games, I never get tired of them. And I almost always have a game going for each.

I bought FF1 when it first came out and spent hours playing it in my dorm room. Im sure FF1 (and Zelda) was responsible for a least a couple grade point average slips. Then Street Fighter 2 Turbo came out for SNES and I went and bought the system just for that game. Then I learned that FF3 (aka FF6) came out and I bought it immediately too. My prizes. Those were the only 2 games I had for that system for many years. I remember that FF6 was revolutionary because it contained so many hours of gameplay and had exceptional graphics for an RPG of that magnitude. Since then I have also purchased Wizardry 5, Illusion of Gaia, Lufia 2 and Smash TV. I recommend them all.

Recently, I picked up Age of Wonders 2 Wizards Throne. It combines aspects of all 3 of my favs, altho mostly from Master of Magic. I highly recommend it. Ive already eaten up a few hours of my sleeptime just to have time to play the game. Ohh the addiction strikes in many forms.

It's a fave discussion topic of mine. U see me signature? "Grandmaster connoisseur of Alternative Lit"? THIS is exactly what I mean by alternative literature. U see, just 2 sidetrack a little 2 tok abt meself if u'll let me, CCS(CardCaptor Sakura, an Anime) had taught me all abt dis concept. When I 1st watched it, it was , for some odd reason, very attractive 2 me. I still dun noe y, since I don't consider it a very well-wriiten anime.

But the thing abt CCS was tt it was the my 1st subject of Alternative Literature Studies. I wrote pages and pages of analyses on it. I was, and still am, highly proficient in many fields of it. Not only, had it introduced me 2 Alternative lit, but it also taught me a great deal about life and my English and mental skills were honed in through my numerous analyses of the Anime.

But as I said, I dun like it THAT much anymore. What and why this is so is a relatively complex issue would be to sidetack too much. If u are still curious 2 know the answer, however, please feel free 2 PM me.

And though CCS is no longer a favourite Anime of mine, I will always remember it-as the anime that started it all. I have retained many of its lessons. Some of them have carried forward even to my stay at CoN as I excercise my analytical muscle on controversial FF6 topics started by many FF6 fans like yourselves.

And my personal legacy of alternative literature continues with other mose unlikely lit subjects. tt's why I love hanging out at places like CoN- keeps the fun in "Literature" alive. Hats off to the CoN staff for having such a great website!!!

For me, it isn't my life (my life is more like homework and tests, and occasional RPG design), but it's definitely a favorite discussion topic. It's one of my favorite games of all time, and I really enjoy talking about it with other people. Which is why I like the Caves of Narshe--Isn't that what we do so much of here? We're always talking about FFVI! smile.gif

Its not my life...but when it comes to video games it is. I defend the FACT..not opinion but the FACT that FF6 is the best game in our history. 14 characters, in which all but one (Umaro) have extensives story lines, or lack of, which leaves mysteries about them. An amazing plot...a long game, that u feel in control of. Its a game where you sit and begin to play late at night, and then what seems not to long later...u look up and u got to go to school in like 10 minutes! i love it...i have converted many people unto this great game

Its one of my favorite discussion topics. Its also my favorite game, as of yet. I'm surprised I've stuck with liking it for so long, because its not like me to stay on anything for more than, maybe, a month. I've been here on CoN for... *checks profile* ...a little over three months, and I've been playing FFVI since I was a wee lad.

yeah, i also hate it when ff fans didn't want to play it, only 'cause it have not the best graphics and 'cause it's very old.
I also can not understand what some people find so great in FF X and X-2, imo this two games suck like no other thing, these are imo not worth to have the title Final Fantasy. Just my opinion, please don't punch me if your a fan of those two games.
