Here's a quick question...besides increasing Strago's powers by learning the "Grand Train" lore (assuming you use him, or are trying to collect Lores), is there any good reason to bother with fighting Hidon in Ebot's Rock? I guess for the sake of battling all special side quest bosses or adding one more thing to your party's "to do" list, someone might feel compelled to do so, but are there any other obvious benefits I'm not remembering to going to Ebot's rock? It's been about two years since I played through the game, and I'm just about to that point again now...thinking about skipping the whole thing, though...
Hey...just a quick question (I don't think this is a spoiler at all)...if you don't get Strago after the WoR, it shows just his portrait in the closing credits, without an interactive scene with the other characters, as if to indicate he's lost or dead. Does this happen for other characters if you don't get them again after the WoR? I forgot to get Shadow a time or two before also, and he got similar treatment in the end credits, so I was just curious. -------------------- You know me, you just wish you didn't... "Uwee hee hee! There really isn't anything to gain in Ebot's Rock except for Strago backstory and Grand Train.
As to the other part, it works the same for every character you did not get in the WoR except Possible spoilers: highlight to view Terra, who appears no matter what. -------------------- "To create something great, you need the means to make a lot of really bad crap." - Kevin Kelly Why aren't you shopping AmaCoN? |

Have I missed something, but what the hell is the deal with Hidon returning to Ebots rock all the time?

Hmmm...maybe he's the FF world version of Jason or Freddy, and can never truly be destroyed...or maybe it's so that you don't miss out on the "Grand Train" lore by killing him off too quickly, with no way to repeat the battle. I do find it kind of pointless to fight him when you know he'll just be back...why couldn't Strago have picked a nemesis that can actually be killed so he could be done with it?
![]() I did notice that Terra always shows up...I had this bad habit of forgetting to go get her before going to Kefka's tower, but she wouldn't let me end the game without... I tried going back into ebot's rock after killing Hidon, but he wasn't there. As a result, I've never gotten grand train. Does anyone know why he's not showing up again in my version?

The trick to doing it is to repeatedly speak to Gungho at Thamasa after you have 'killed' Hidon for the first time, and after the small cut scene witih him and Strago takes place.
He will eventually say: 'Hidon has appeared at Ebots rock again!' - this is your cue to go back into his lair. You can do this as many times as you want... But my question is: Who is Ebot? I'd guess Ebot was either an explorer, who probably wrecked there and founded Thamasa on the mainland, or a mage who cloistered himself on the island (remember, it was above water at some point during Thamasa's existance. Pre-War of the Magi maybe?)...

It'll be cool if Ebot is explained in the prequel to FFVI that Fierce legends are doing but I seriously doubt it. ...
Maybe he could be like Toma in Chrono Trigger and be a Soda Pop-aholic! ![]() -------------------- Chrono Triggers rock super-group: Ozzie - lead singer from Black Sabbath Flea - Bassist from Red Hot Chilli Peppers Slash - Guitarist from Guns 'n' Roses He drinks and smokes his cares away His heart is in the lonely way Living in the ruins Of a castle built on sand... Quote (Rangers51) As to the other part, it works the same for every character you did not get in the WoR except Possible spoilers: highlight to view Terra, who appears no matter what. There are two further exceptions for missing ending characters: Possible spoilers: highlight to view Sabin and Locke. With a full set of characters in the end, Sabin has a combined scene with Edgar and Locke has a combined scene with Celes. If you miss these two, you just get different versions of those scenes. But yeah. All other characters get the portrait treatment if you missed them. |

Well, Majik Monkee, that there's two other main things to do while in Ebot's Rock: one, that collecting some more enemies for the Veldt to add them to Gau's rages: Opinicus, Hipocampus, Displayer, Eland, Slatter, Warlock, and Cluck to be exact; and two, that collecting the Coral rare item. The rest of you, according to the given information, that Hidon only finally disappears after that Strago has finally learned GrandTrain from him. >Danny<

Hidon doesn't disappear even after you get GrandTrain. It just shows up every so often, and also allows you to have an exciting (yeah right) boss fight that you can never use up (and get the great boss music too!).

Okay...thanks...I'd forgotten about the coral equipment...that's reason enough for me to go back again. And I don't mind the boss music at all either...

You have to feed it something like 30 pieces all at the same time. I suggest going around for several minutes collecting a ton of coral and then going back to feed it all you've got.
