Just wondering who everyone's favourite comic enemies / bosses were in any Square / Enix game. Here are mine:
CT: Flea (see avatar). Heh, the whole "Wha? I'm a man!" and "beauty is power" thing really cracked me up... as did Frog's response. Flea is probably my favourite baddie from CT. Also, Dalton when he attempts to start up the Epoch and get's Chrono's theme. FFV: Everyone's favourite: Gilgamesh! FFVI: Ultros.... Especially when they convince him to let Relm paint his portrait. So, what does everyone else think? This post has been edited by Stephen the Third on 9th March 2004 08:43 -------------------- Je ne t'aime plus, Mon amour... Je ne t'aime plus, Tous les jours... |

My favorite was the guy who rides on the swinging pendulum in Nibelheim, Shinra Mansion (FF7). The first time I saw him fall it was so unexpected i just burst out laughing.

Booster (from SMRPG) was pretty funny, as were Bowser and Johnny.

Quote 4)Magus:He was fun to fight 3)Lavos:Fun to fight 2)KefkaFINAL:I had fun fighting him 1)Atma:DUDE! LISTEN TO THE MUSIC AND SEE WHY! Where any of these actually comical? I don't recall any of those battles having humorous elements in them. Of course, I may be wrong. Please go into detail. -------------------- Je ne t'aime plus, Mon amour... 1. Uncle Ulty, the seafood soup receptionist who gets chewed on by Chupon (chew'd'pon?), who hates muscleheads, and who one day realizes that he's just a stupid purple octopus.
2. Dalton: "Buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuurp!" "Damn! Where's my Golemboss?!" What a complete wuss. 3. Booster: Drink punch, eat cake ==> eat punch, drink cake. Mmm, delicious, with or without a bride! He's also a psychotic clown, but not at all sadistic. It's his being so stupid and foolish that makes that part of the game interesting. 4. Ozzie's in a jam, in a pickle, stumped, or simply fallen through the floor. What a complete wuss. 5. Golemboss, who's very afraid of heights. Yeah. Nice job, Dalton. -------------------- Check the "What games are you playing at the moment?" thread for updates on what I've been playing. You can find me on the Fediverse! Quote Ozzie's in a jam, in a pickle, stumped, or simply fallen through the floor. What a complete wuss. Ah, another excellent choice, GMH! Ozzie, Flea, and Slash (the triumvirate of pop star names, heh) were my favourite characters from Chrono Trigger. The three generals of Magus just had so much character that it was hard not to be captivated by them. Flea, though, takes the cake. The whole "male shapeshifting sorcerer who is obsessed with beauty and thus renders himself as a female" spiel was amazing, in my opinion. Flea really stood out from the rest of the power hungry enemies that populated CT. Ozzie was pretty damn funny as well, just because of his total cowardice. Slash was the only serious member of the fearsome three, and thus the least interesting--can't win them all, I suppose... his attacks were pretty nifty, though. On a side note, I was very happy that Square's translators decided to rename Magus' three generals as pop stars as opposed to their japanese, spice-oriented names. my favorite is kefka in the WoB. He was never really funny in any of the fights, but his character as a whole was fairly comical (ahem! there is sand on my boots!)

Meh. I like my games to be serious. So the cutesie and cuddly and comical monsters and enemies tend not to grab me. The ones that do, do so in their moment of seriousness.

Those soldiers and Vector pups beneath Figaro in Final Fantasy VI. Not at the time, but the fact that they were still around even a year after they had any reason to be sort of makes me grin. Did those poor boys get lost? Or do they just really like it down there?

Ultros of course, well it is mainly what he says, seafood soup, muscle-heads. Same for Kefka. Seymour (FFX) was an interesting enemy. When I fought him in the first seymour battle I decided to do an overdrive on him and it killed him in 1 shot it did around 8000 damage (seriously it did.)

Quote Meh. I like my games to be serious. So the cutesie and cuddly and comical monsters and enemies tend not to grab me. The ones that do, do so in their moment of seriousness. DP, just because a character's personality is a humorous one or the character lets him or herself slip into a comical tirade or what not does NOT mean that the character is by any means "cutesie and cuddly." Flea, my favorite CT baddie, is funny in the sense that he dresses up like a woman because 'power is beautiful;' however, he is still loyal to his superiors (Magus, then Ozzie) and a powerful magician. I don't see how you would consider baddies like Flea to not be serious parts of a game just because they make the gamer laugh every now and then. I'll admit that some characters are more humor-oriented, like Ultros, but they all seem to present some sort of plot direction. It's not as if you stop and go "awww, look at that cute octupos!" Rather, you get mad at him for his goofy antics and, at times, the difficulty he presents for your party. While I did laugh at Ultros many a time, I was still furious and hectic the first time I played and he tried to spoil Celes' big Opera debut. ![]() I don't know if any of the baddies actually mentioned thus far would even qualify as "cutesie" or "cuddly." -------------------- Je ne t'aime plus, Mon amour... I didn't find Ultros all that funny. hmm... Albedo. He isn't on a Squaresoft game, but he is in some relation to one. "It can be replaced, Like my head!" Possible the most sadistic badguy ever. Definately the badguy that brought about the most laughs out of me.

I'd say flea is pretty funny, but I think she is a girl in denial of her gender. Ozzie cracked me up. Also Ultros. I don't see why he always happens to run into the gang. Stupid octopus. Not to mention booster and dodo from SMRPG. And Fawful and Popple from M&LSSS.

That was a list of characteristics I don't like, n*t a col(ective description. There are some characters I like for their comical value. Like Tas from DragonLance, I like the characters that can take a comical break from the seriousness, but not the ones who are incapable of being naturally seri>us. -------------------- "I had to write four novels before they let me write comic books."
