Ok, so Final Fantasy XI will be out here in England in a while, and I was wondering what your guys views on it are since I know a lot of you will already have it. Is it good for the £7 odd I'll have to pay every month? I like playing MUDS and therefore a Final Fantasy MMORPG will be just up my street, but it seems a little expensive.

And if I do get it, what should my character be?

It's good stuff.

You get to choose between four races, 6 basic beginner jobs, and when you get to level 30 and get the quests, you can the other 9 advanced jobs. After about level 10 or so, you *really* need to party, it's basically required, or you're going to die; the game is based on partying.

I think so yeah. There are about thirty different servers. You get put into them randomly, but if your friend buys a World Pass and gives you the code you can use it to get inside the same server as them.

FFXI is awesome. I reccommend getting it if you have money to blow every month. It's quite fun.

I still dont get why tetra master (FFIX) is on the game. I haven't played it on FFIX in a looooong time. I think it is worth it. Oh and if you get FFXi on PS2, a network adapter, an extra keyboard, and play for a year it will total to 300$. Good deal.

This game is super cool. I have been a member since it first came out, and my friend joined about month ago, and I have more friends joining when the HDD comes along. This is without a doubt the best MMO I have ever played, and I have played them all. EQ, DAOC, SW:G, UO, etc. and this one beats them all. With so much stuff to do, like GAMBLE and ride Chocobo's and amazing stuff like that...its awsome. Im gonna post again later, just so Tiddles dosent get mad @ me.

Okay, so I'm pretty sure it's out in Britain now. I can afford it, but I'm not too familiar with MMORPGS. Where on the internet can I find the terms and conditions? How do I subscribe? I think I've got the Playstation 2 Online thing but I've never used it. Hellllp! blink.gif

Edit
Turns out, it's not out in Britain. That was a countdown for North America. Now I'm annoyed, and still confused. I'm going to smite something mightily. shifty.gif

Whose got it and is it worth it?

That basically covers it all. More importantly, our PC and PS2 users all on the same servers or have they seperated the game. I'm figuring if it turns out enough people here have got the game, I might actually buy it m'self and start playing with all my peeps at da CoN. thumbup.gif

But it does sound like a bit of a risky game, 'specially for someone like me, who's never played a MMOPLDSLKSDG whudeva etc.

If you don't get the point to this topic, which is spelled out in the very first sentence, then you need to retake a few grades bud.

So far as I saw, there is no other FFXI topic here (the only place there would be one on this forum) aside from yours which only refers to people who don't have it yet. But hey, at least you pointed me in the right direction by mentioning a FFXI forum you don't even know the name of. Real helpful there doc.

Well personally I would get it for PS2 if I got it at all not PC but that's just cus I don't really like PC games all that much...but I will probably never buy it because it requires Cable Modem and the stupid calbe companys here don't provide modem service and also I really don't care for a FF that requires online capabilitys...as far as whether it's going to be worth your 7 pounds a month I dunno (sorry I don't have the little pound symbol on my key board). But if you like that kind of thing I would say at least try it...if you don't like it you can always cancel and not have to pay for it anymore...I'm sure someone will be willing to buy the game from you if you decide you don't like it.

I want to get FFXI so bad... but there's a monthly fee of like $12.95. And $1 for each new character, I think. But I've heard it's an awesome game. Though, same people say it sucks... heh.

Yes, sucks it does. The fact there is no storyline was pretty obvious, but still dissapointing. The battle system was just stupid. You walk up to an enemy, attack it, and wait for someone to die.

Overall, the fee isn't worth it.

final fantasy XI massively sucks. its a total rip, and as mentioned above, has more or less NO storyline. its just some crappy game along the lines of ultima online, or the ultra-crappy everquest. it can hardly even be called a game, its really just an interactive chatroom with enemies.

FFXI isnt even a real final fantasy game. it has no dynamic characters, simply because there really ARENT any real characters, its got no intricate storyline whatsoever, and though its nice to have some kind of freedom, a game needs a certain linear quality to it, to keep it structured. furthermore, when i play a video game, i like to be alone in my own little world, not running around talking to polygon conglomerates that undoubtedly hideous people live vicariously through on their computers for 8 hours a day. if i wanted to go out and talk to ugly people, ill do it in person at the local K-mart or go to the taco bell just down the road. but alas, i got better things to do than waste my time with underdevloped mouth breathers in a false computer-generated world. i got a job man. dont bother with FFXI, its retardo.

I have heard many things about this game and out of the 13 ppl i asked 12 of them said it was all bad. (And the one person who liked it doesnt exactly have the lights on upstairs, lol) If i were u, i'd stay away from this game unless ur looking to spend alot of maney on a crappy paperwieght.

What baffles me is the Sony site has absolutely no word on the hard drive, be it product listing or news. Heck, the hard drive isn't sold on its own. What it does have is a Linux kit for the PS2. I'd say get the HD and forget FFXI, just make it a low-end PC!
