You know, I've heard talk from some (not all by any means) players that the final battles in Murond Death City are very difficult, but I'm here to say that I think they are very easy compared to what you must endure in some of the classic Final Fantasy games, like FFVI for example. Bosses like Atma and the godesses and other bosses found in Kefka's tower were enough to make me want to cry blood the first few times I played through them, and still offer a challenge even to this day. The Murond Death City battles are very easy for me, and I don't think it's because I'm so awesome at this game, because I'm only average.
Part of the problem is that I love random battles, maybe too much, and usually my characters are pretty leveled up and tough by the end of the game. My real ace in the hole is the fact that I always have a ninja in my party at high level, and always equip him with the Vanish Mantle, and the best possible swords. The Ninja's AT comes pretty quickly, and he's free to walk right up to the boss who needs to be defeated, and do him some serious damage without being molested first. This method takes care of Rofel and Balk with ease, while the rest of my characters just sit back and avoid punishment till the fight is over. My party usually has a Ramza with "two swords" ability, wielding Chaos Blade and Excalibur. That takes care of Kletian in one move, before the fight even really starts. Even when Ramza's level isn't maxed out, the Chaos Blade finishes the job if Excalibur doesn't, making for a very easy battle. The final bosses are no match for five characters in any case, so there's no need to go into that. They just don't offer much of a challenge if you've spent any time powering up your characters. I love this game, and don't have any problem with the final battles or anything, I just wish they'd challenged me a bit more. I fought them at lower levels, and I fought them at higher levels, and since the enemies level up accordingly, there just wasn't much challenge either way. I'm not saying I want the game to be so hard I couldn't win it, but it just seems odd that some of the random battles you have to fight (ie. Hydras and Tiamats, or groups of calculators) are more difficult than the final showdowns. For me, anyway...I can't speak for everyone... ![]() ![]() -------------------- You know me, you just wish you didn't... "Uwee hee hee! ya Monkee ive noticed this as well, ive got a little saying that applies perfectly
5 on 1 its just not fun 1 on 1 you'd better run if you're looking for a challenge try fighting with only 2 or 3 characters vs Altma -------------------- And when the band you're in starts playing different tunes, i'll see you on the dark side of the moon.... - Pink Floyd Eagle may soar, but weasels don't get sucked into jet engines |

i noticed that too. I had Ramza with 2 swords ability and had on Excalibur and Save the queen and he tried to dispel the effects of both blades the whole fight. He didnt even attack...? i had 2 ninjas throwing all my weapons at him so he couldnt counter well. but back on topic
boss fights are way too easy. I love this game, its a personal fave, but i wish i were challenged more. Its like fight t8 creatures and win in 2 minutes, while dancing, singing, casting meteor and using talk skills on one. (i got a sacred that way ![]() |

Right...the strangest thing is that the game shows what I consider to be amazing AI in most of the battles...it casts support magic on squares it plans to move characters later, knowing just how much time it has, sets traps for you, heals it's characters with elemental magic if they are able to, and generally seems to be almost (but not quite) as skillful at planning strategy as a human of average to medium intelligence. However, in that final battle, it wastes a lot of it's time with meaningless non-harmful attacks because it can't realize the bonus is built into the sword. I'm not complaining too much, though...it allowed me to win the first time through when I was somewhat ill prepared...

I think the game was mostly geared to being beatable..but hard..at 40th lvl...still..the boss is uber easy...to make it seem longer I used 2x speed break instead of doing real damage.

alright, for most people, FF6 did not pose too much of a difficulty with their bosses. When the master of the game, (Kefka) being so easy that any character can take him out in ONE attack, (can be done, trust me--mwahaha), and most other bosses simliar in simplicity, there wasnt much of a contest. This is assuming, of course, that the player chose NOT to low-level the game, which greatly enhances the difficulty. Try being level 8 and in Zozo, THATS HARD. Anywho, FF6 is not too bad.
FFT on the other hand, can have some extraordinary battles in it. The one-on-one against Wiegraf, for example. DAMN, that sucked! However, the game gives players an opportunity to max levels early in the game because they allow random battle enemies to grow with your characters. For example, i had Flare in Chapter One. Thats just cheap, am i wrong? Granted, the character could cast the spell once per battle, but i think we can all agree at that point it doesnt need to be cast more than the orginial shot. Well, i have ramble on more than enough...i think that i shall play Suikoden 2. Later! -------------------- once you can accept yourself, you will never be alone |

I guess this whole argument (or discussion, rather) depends upon how much time a player invests in building up their characters before a certain point in the game. This explains why there are so many "challenge FAQs" out there, challenging people to accomplish certain tasks before achieving certain levels, or without certain characters or equipment. That really is the beauty of role playing games, though, especially the FF ones with their fantastic story lines. They give us the story and the basic tools to get started, but past that, party layout, game progression, and focus can vary dramatically from player to player, and we really determine on our own how difficult the game is going to be. Maybe what I'm saying is my guys just kicked too much butt by the time I reached the end of the game, and things would have been much different if I'd changed all my warriors into...let's say...(shudder)...thieves instead! I'm predicting a much different outcome had that been the case. 8)
