Well, there are two different answers to this thread - which is the favorite to watch, and which is the favorite to participate in. Really, my favorite for both is soccer. I played from the time I was five and played throughout my youth, high school, and a year in college before I decided that I wanted to do other things and soccer was taking up too much of my time for what I was getting out of it. I still play at least once a week during the summer here.
After that, my favorite to play is basketball. I'm sure everyone in chat loves it when I come home from my Wednesday night game and talk about how the game went. It's easier to play than soccer, because you can do it with fewer guys and in more places. I like watching soccer best, but it's a large time investment and it's hard to find on regular TV. After that, college basketball and then college football. -------------------- "To create something great, you need the means to make a lot of really bad crap." - Kevin Kelly Why aren't you shopping AmaCoN? |

I don't like watching many sports, but generally if it's martial arts style fighting, I'll like that.
To play, I like skiing, martial arts, swimming, and basketball mostly :-) And running, but I'm not sure if that's considered a sport. I also like cycling. This post has been edited by Elena99 on 1st March 2004 17:21 -------------------- I had an old signature. Now I've changed it. |

I enjoy watching "soccer" (a.k.a football) but playing rugby takes up most of my time so I voted Other. Shame it's not there, but I guess you Americans have no idea what the hell it is.

i really enjoy watching WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment, is sports entertainment legal for this thread?) anyway, i also wrestle as "Psyche" in the independent wrestling federations, which are not to be confused to with the idiots who do backyard wrestling. What i do is organized and as safe as it can be, considering we are body slamming each other

Quote (Elena99 @ 1st March 2004 12:20) And running, but I'm not sure if that's considered a sport. . Running is most definately a sport ![]() I voted for basketball, though. I love almost every sport you can think of, and play all of them when I get the chance, but basketball has been my number one sport for most of my life. I miss it more than anything else that I've had to give up to be a college athlete, and the first thing I'm doing when my last meet is over in May is going straight to the basketball court. In terms of favorite to watch, well, it depends on the season. Right now my mind is consumed with college basketball, as it will be until March Madness is over. But my favorite sport to watch basically goes something like this: January-March=College Basketball April-June- (tie) NBA and Baseball June-September/October(depending on status of Cubs' chances)- Baseball September-January- Football. I don't know which I'm most devoted to. I'm devoted to no one team in college basketball, but watch most games I can see on TV, so that ends up being a lot by the end (and don't try to move me off the couch during the NCAA tourney) But I haven't missed more than one Bears game in a season in 4 years, but that still only adds up to about 60 games. I watch every Cubs game I am in Chicago for, but since I miss about 2 and a half months when I'm away from the TV, that's only about half the season (which is still around 80 games, so...yeah.) In short, I am obsessed with sports in general, and extremely mad no one told me about the auditions for "Dream Job," because I think I'd be better than any of them so far ![]() This post has been edited by Gears on 1st March 2004 21:23 -------------------- Hip-Hop QOTW: "Yeah, where I'ma start it at, look I'ma part of that Downtown Philly where it's realer than a heart attack It wasn't really that ill until the start of crack Now it's a body caught every night on the Almanac" "Game Theory" The Roots |

Argh at the difference between playing and watching. For watching, my favorite sport is baseball, by far. I'm going to Spring Training in a couple of weeks, it's going to be a blast. To play, it'd be racquet games, be it tennis or racquetball.

As far as practicing, I think basket is my favourite. I don't have a lot of time for it now, but it's still my favourite sport to play, even so I'm not really great at it
![]() For watching, it's probably rugby, since it's the only sport I can watch through (except for basketball of course, and occasionally US Football, but only if I taped it, so I can speed things up a little bit). This post has been edited by Mr Thou on 1st March 2004 20:41 |

I have three sports actually but since American football (real football) was the only one on there I voted for that. My other two sports are wrestling (real wrestling not WWE) and rugby. I cannot choose between the three since I participated in all three and coach all three now.

I love sparring in martial arts, unfortuantely I can hardly ever do that with my friends without one of us getting smacked pretty good since I'm the only one with pads.
For now, I'm in a paper football league representing Cleveland in the Eastern conference. We have a big chance of going all the way this year and hopefully we'll be able to make up for our loss last season against the LA Ravers. 121-72, it was bad. But the greatest game EVER invented has to be Ultimate Frisbee. Hitting a home run or slam dunking doesn't even come close to matching the feeling you get when you achieve dive glory. So if you ever play, always ask the person you chose whether they're willing to dive. If they aren't, then they don't have the right attitude. As soon as the weather around here stops acting like it's on crack, I might be able to organize a team, and that makes me very happy. -------------------- "Like an Angel from the underworld, or a devil from paradise" Faye Valentine: Cowboy Bebop |

Sports play a huge role in my life.... like gears, I like to watch and seemingly play virtually any sport that i get an oppurtunity to...
to play... well, during the winter i am such a ski bum... but there is hardly anyone who isn't... so. during the summer: my favorite to do is play basketball. i go to the court nearly everyday even if no one shows up, i'll still just shoot by myself for a couple hours. I'm in a summer basketball league whenever i'm in connecticut for the summer... good times, good times.... I also love playing roller hockey with some peeps. I hardly played it last year though... golf and tennis are also two sports i love to play. As for sports to watch, whatever season it is I'm watching.... like right now, I'm into NBA, College Basketball, and the NHL right now. I can't pick out a favorite to watch as they are on at different times, but if i chose... I'd probably pick watching baseball just because it's there is a lot to follow and a lot can happen over 162 games. My favorite time of year is definitely September/October... cuz you get a great selection of the MLB playoffs, NFL, College Football, preseason/beginning NBA and NHL... it's awesome -------------------- "When I turn the page The corner bends into the perfect dog ear As if the words knew I'd need them again But at the time, I didn't see it." ~"This Ain't a Surfin' Movie" - Minus the Bear |

My favorite is without a doubt American Football, and the sport seems to get better and better every year. Baseball needs to borrow a couple of ideas from the NFL(salary cap mainly) to get back up in my favorite category.
My second favorite would have to be the world of MMA(Mixed Martial Arts). UFC, Pride, and K-1 are incredible, the level of skill these people have is amazing...and they are only getting better. A lot of people think of it as savage and classify people who watch it as blood thirsty, but if they were to pay attention to it they would realize they're wrong. These are world class athletes who are the best fighters in the world, and anybody can defeat anyone on any given night. -------------------- "My impersonation of an ordinary person was flawless." - Neal "Don't cry because it's over. I'm not a sports person, but I'd say I like to watch swimming, soccer, martial arts movies (note the "movies") and much of the stuff on the Olympics, except events like synchronized swimming or ice skating. Those that I like to participate in are swimming, badminton, martial arts, and possibly running.
Edit: I think I should mention this: I STRONGLY dislike football (not soccer). It seems like merely a violent, yet boring, game. Well, definitely a big difference in sports to play, and sports to watch.
Anyways, my favorite sport to play is by far basketball. I ball it up where ever I can, pick up games are great. I'm 6'0" and I hate it, because I can grab rim with no problem, I can get my wrist above the rim, but I've only been able to put it down once. If I grew even an inch I'd have it. I can dunk all over on this 9'9" hoop in town though, which is fun to have dunk contests on. For sports to watch: Quote January-March=College Basketball April-June- (tie) NBA and Baseball June-September/October(depending on status of Cubs' chances)- Baseball September-January- Football. My schedule's pretty much identical to that. Right now, I can't wait for the Cubs new season. They're gonna be so good. I love it. Figures that Chicago is only allowed one good team in the city at a time (Bulls and Blackhawks suck royally right now). If only there was a way to combine the '85 Bears, '96 or '97 Bulls, and the current Cubbies into one year. Wow, would I be the happiest man alive. -------------------- The clouds ran away, opened up the sky And one by one I watched every constellation die And there I was frozen, standing in my backyard Face to face, eye to eye, staring at the last star I should've known, walked all the way home To find that she wasn't here, I'm still all alone -Atmosphere "Always Coming Back Home to You" |
