I've heard that Retainer has got Leo's "Shock" attack. If so, does Retainer swing his sword when doing the attack or does that red explosion just come out directly?

Ive never seen a retainer use shock, ever. So I highly doubt he has it.

But if he would, his sword would not swing. The Foes in FFVI arnt animated.

I'm pretty sure Reteainer, or Retainer, or however it's spelled does have Shock; or the same basic move whether it's renamed. huh.gif

Retainer doesn't actually use Shock, only Gau when he uses the Retainer rage. Enemies arn't animated so if Retainer did use Shock, it would just come out directly with no sword animation.

Here's his text script:
Rand. spell: Battle or Battle or Nothing
Rand. spell: Battle or Battle or Nothing
Wait until the attack sequence is called upon again, then continute (reset targetting)
Rand. spell: Battle or Battle or Nothing
Rand. spell: Battle or Battle or Nothing
Wait until the attack sequence is called upon again, then continute (reset targetting)
Rand. spell: Battle or Battle or Nothing
Rand. spell: Battle or Battle or Nothing

Rand. spell: Wind Slash or Battle or Nothing
Rand. spell: Wind Slash or Battle or Nothing
End first wave of attack
If following monster is/are dead:
Lore: Special
End

Actually, it WOULD come out with sword animation. The only thing that moves though, is the Crystal sword itself, not the monster.

And no, Retainer doesn't have Shock. There are other monsters whose Rages are spells they don't have as well, such as Ogor's Storm (ala Umaro).

Apply common sense liberally to this game, or it won't make much sense.

Oh? Speck has Runic status, and you don't see the Runic blade when it absorbs magic. There are no other character sprite based animations shown with monsters when they perform an attack. It's always just a palette flash and attack. Even when a monster uses Heal Force (a Magitek armor ability in which the user in Magitek armor moves forward, casts and walks back) there's a delay because of the unshown movement. Is Shock the only exception to all this? I can't even see how you can tell a monster to use Shock, so how could anyone even know?

F4 command, or spell 82h.

Besides, the game supports having monsters use a Runic status, it does NOT have such support for Shock.

Ahh ok, I didn't think about the fact that Shock wasn't designed for monsters. That's the exception here. Thanks for clearing that up Zed.
