Ok, the Gau's Rages topic made me feel I ought to ask this question in order to progress. I was using Strago the other day with Sabin, Gogo and Mog - my three best people. We were training up in Maranda Desert, and whenever we get into a scuffle with a Hoover, he ends up dying straight away therefore he gains no exp. I could give him a range of powerful black magic attacks to be starting with, but I'd like to experiment with some of his Lores...I've only got three so far - Revenge, Stone and Aqua Bubble? Where would I be able to find better ones and what monster would I have to face to get it?

Since you missed alot of them, I suggest you go on the veld. Use Relm's control ability to control the ennemies and see if the have Lore magic. If so use it on strago.

Possible spoilers: highlight to view Dark Force is just a random encounter monster, but I'll play along and use the spoiler tag too. Not all Lores, the exceptions are Big Guard, Pep Up, ForceField, and GrandTrain, and you have to Rage/Sketch/Control it for CleanSweep. -------------------- |

The particular learnable lore has to be used in battle so that Strago can observe it. If the battle is won, then Strago learns it. Yes, he starts off with those three lores. A listing of which monsters use which lores can be found in almost any faq/shrine/online guide/player's guide, but here are some:
Cleansweep: Blue Dragon, Enuo(?), control DarkForce GrandTrain: Hidon Exploder: Pipsqueak Reflect????: DarkForce Pep Up: rage Muus, rage Intangir -------------------- Check the "What games are you playing at the moment?" thread for updates on what I've been playing. Big guard is the most phenomenal defensive spell in the game, and Grand Train is a good offensive skill.
To get Grand Train, take Relm and Strago to Thamasa in the WoR, then complete the quest of killing Hidon that's outlined there. Big Guard is gotten from the small spec enemies in Kefka's tower (I forgot what they're called...). On a side note for Zed or anyone else, what does Force Field do? |

Quote (io_rage @ 15th February 2004 13:35) Big Guard is gotten from the small spec enemies in Kefka's tower (I forgot what they're called...). Mover, I think? I've never encountered them except online in listings of enemies, but (as I remember from those GIFs) they're those little red orbs that resemble the air force's specks. Edit: One more thing: Many lores can be learnt through Gau's rages and Relm's Sketch/Control. I understand how you learn through Control - you would be able to use the Blue Magic on Strago, but how do you do it with Gau's Rages? Even if Gau has learnt the monster's moves and therefore knows the blue magic, how can you control him to make him use it on Strago?

The lore to be learned doesn't have to be used on Strago, just in a battle that he is in. He doesn't have to experience the move, just see it.
Also, for anyone who still cares, GMH is right about them being called movers. |

Bah; the handbook says, "Strago's lore ability lets him learn certain spells from enemies, by having the spells cast ON him during battle."

THE HANDBOOK IS LYING IGGY! YOUR BEING HYPNOTIZED!
AT least i think you are... well its still lying ![]() and heres a tip, to get all of the lores in one battle, have relm control a dark force and strago should learn all of them when you win This post has been edited by l)arkShadow on 16th February 2004 00:07 |

Strago only needs to be present for the Lore, he doesn't need to be hit by it.

Iggy--
The handbook may say that, but that's not the case. All that's necessary is that Strago is up and well when the lore is used and at the end of battle. I'm not sure whether he can learn it with certain status ailments, but I think he can't learn it when he's blinded, petrified, or frozen (somebody please check that for me). This makes it a lot easier to learn blue magic/lores/enemy skills than it was in FFV, where your blue mage/person with "learning" status actually had to be hit by the blue spell and then be alive at the end of battle to learn it. That made it very hard to learn spells like L.5 Doom, especially since your party's levels were usually about the same. (Good thing, though, that if you made another blue mage, the blue magic would be passed on, and you wouldn't have to learn it again.) The handbook probably says what you quoted because someone originally intended FFVI lores to be learnt like FFV blue spells. Also, I doubt that Relm could get DarkForce to use all the lores DarkForce knows just by using Sketch/Control. Yes, you can get Cleansweep that way (especially because Cleansweep is NOT in DarkForce's normal battle script), but can you get all the other lores it knows that way? -------------------- Check the "What games are you playing at the moment?" thread for updates on what I've been playing. Here is what I know for sure:
* STRAGO can learn LORES as long as he is present during the enemy attack with none of the following status effects: WOUNDED, STONE, ZOMBIE, DARK, SLEEP, MUDDLE, STOP, HIDE, BERSERK or FROZEN. * His status at the end of combat is irrelevant. * Source does not matter including from Gau's Rages and Relm's Sketches. * Target does not matter Here is something very obscure that I have not confirmed. I am not trying to start a rumor, I just haven't have time to confirm or reject this. There have been a couple instances where I thought this occurred. * CONTROL a monster which has an unlearned LORE as one of the CONTROL attacks. Now even if the unlearned LORE is not used during combat, STRAGO will learn the LORE. This post has been edited by Detah on 16th February 2004 19:35 |
