I was suprised there wasn't a topic for this already. Well I am sure all of you have seen or heard what happened during the halftime show with Justine Timberlake and Janet Jackson. I saw it and for those who have no idea what happened, Timberlake was grinding with Jackson (not Michael) and at the end of the song he reached around and well, ripped part of her shirt off reveling one...you know. Of course there was stuff around the...middle area so nothing major was seen. Now at a press confrence after the game Timberlake said that it was a wordrobe "malfunction"...YEAH RIGHT. They planned this whole thing and I guess MTV warned CBS not to do it. Of course MTV would warn them, they don't want anyone else to top their little Brittney, Madonna, Christina kiss on the MTV music awards.

For me this is a serious low point in entertainment. First of all the Super Bowl is about football and they made a bigger deal about the halftime show, with everyone lip syncing by the way. What is MTV going to do now, have a couple have sex during the movie awards? Anyways what is all your take on this.

You're not the only one who felt that way. I thought that whole act was completly pathetic. Now we have to hear the media talk about for several weeks.

The best part of the half time *show* was right before the kickoff. When the streaker started dancing in the middle of the field. That, takes courage.

First of all, that was an accident. CBS sincerely apologized for it and so did Justin. If you didn;t see it on her face, Janet was outraged. She is still steaming from what Justin did according to news reports. The show wasn't bad at all, in my opinion. Maybe the beginning, but the rest was all right. Well, what do we all learn from this boys and girls?

Janet's right breast is probably the most exposed private article in the world, now. Maybe even more exposed than Pamela Anderson. laugh.gif

Come on of course Timberlake looked outrage and everything, its called acting. They needed a big ending to the show and they got it, why else would Jackson where those things on her you know what if she did not know that she was going to expose them. Plus as I said MTV warned CBS not to do it so that is a give away. It was another stupid publicity stunt, don't believe everything CBS or no-talent Timberlake tell you. Its all about the ratings, especially since CBS had to compete with that girls playing football in underwear on pay-per-view during halftime.

i believe it was an accident or at least wasn't planned by MTV. Here are two quotes from their article:

Quote
"The decision to have a costume reveal at the end of my halftime show performance was made after final rehearsals," Jackson said in a statement released Monday (February 2). "MTV was completely unaware of it. It was not my intention that it go as far as it did. I apologize to anyone offended — including the audience, MTV, CBS and the NFL."

Quote
"MTV was as surprised and shocked as anyone last night.  Janet Jackson acknowledged that we had no prior knowledge of her plans.  We will continue to investigate the circumstances.

Our goal with the Super Bowl Halftime show was to produce an entertaining stage experience with a positive message about empowerment and voting.  We are disappointed that this message has been overshadowed by the unfortunate incident.

MTV apologizes again to anyone who was offended."

It does sound like something was planned but that it went too far. What exactly was planned after final rehersals that went so wrong?

Wasn't there a lyric in the song they sung that said "I'm gonna rip your clothes off"?. I didn't watch the Superbowl, but was told that.

I thought the whole halftime show was pretty embarrassing, and it's pissing me off that CBS is trying to come off all pretty when they had the lingerie bowl that was pretty ridiculous as well. I don't care what Justin was trying to do, either...it was stupid. Isn't he supposed to be a role model?

Also, I'm glad no pics or videos of this have been posted here yet...let's keep it that way wink.gif I don't think anyone was planning on it, though.

No, lad, she was wearing a nipple shield. It's a piece of metal jewelry that attaches to the stud used for a nipple piercing. Maybe she wears it all the time. I dunno, I don't usually have an opportunity to see her breasts. smile.gif

Was it an accident that she was totally exposed? Hard to say, none of us can say with total certainty. It was not an accident that clothes were removed, though, and isn't that trashy enough? The whole show was trash, and I have to give Beyonce Knowles credit for staying out of the whole thing and just doing the classier National Anthem.

It was a pathetic excuse for a halftime show. I mean, speaking directly as a marketer, there should've been at least one performer there who's had a new single within the last year or so. The only songs I heard that night were the same ones I've heard since last year or prior to, even ::cough::Kid Rock::cough::. Second of all, can we say "lip sync"? There was no way that Nelly's live performance of "Hot in 'Herrrrrre'" sounds EXACTLY like the album version. That was such a crock. Third of all, yes I do believe "The Incident" was planned as a way of getting media attention. I mean, look at us, we're all talking about this halftime show instead of the actual game (which was an amazing game, btw). Apparently the NFL won't let MTV do anymore halftime shows... my thought... YES! thumbup.gif . MTV was also responsible for the craptacular Aerosmith/NSync halftime show a couple years back which sucked beyond belief... I didn't think that "Walk This Way" could've been butchered so horribly.

i am so sick of hearing about this controversy. I saw it on sunday and almost immediately forgot about it, at least until the next mornings paper had a headline "Janet Bares All!" thats when i knew this was going to be one of those things that i just won't be able to escape for quite awhile. I thought i'd be safe at the CoN, guess i was wrong pinch.gif

Since we're talking about halftime, did anyone catch what happened right after that? Famous streaker Mark Roberts streaked the Super Bowl.

Yahoo News

But anyway what gets me was that Justin Timberlake was supposed to be a surprise. Who really cares? Now if it would have been Michael Jackson or Vanilla Ice with a new song or something that would have been different. Justin Timberlake is just another ho-hum pop star that only a few young teens care about. This was supposed to get the rest of the world excited? Give me a break!

That halftime show alienated so many people on so many levels. What a joke.

So with it being aired over in Europe, what was your opinion of the "Boob Show"?

It's got to be somewhat humorous for you the amount of attention this is getting, when in other countries no one would bat an eye.

The thing that annoyed me most about the show at the time was Nelly and P. Diddy desecrating a great song like "Mo' Money Mo' Problems." Ugh, so many people are watching, most of whom probably have no exposure to the genre, and we give them "Hot in Here." HIP-HOP IS NOT REPRESENTED BY THESE TWO MORONS! sorry...

But a few days later now I'm more upset such a great game is being obscured by the halftime show. But a lot of things about the game make me even more uspet such as:

Brady being the MVP (shoulda been Deon Branch or David Givens.)
Phil Simms being the most boring commentator on the face of the planet.

Yeah, its unfortunate how celebreties are the center of the universe sometimes. Its annoying.

And the lip sync was completly obvious. Most of the time the "artists" wouldnt even finish their wouldnt even finish their words. Horrible show. They have been going downhill for a while now.

JANET JACKSON would NOT agree to her show her breast in front of millions of viewers around the world. That's not something a rising singer would do. And maybe Justin planned this all by himself, but I do NOT believe that Ms. Jackson planned and caried out this skit with full intentions to expose her right boob. Timberlake probably got a bit aroused when grinding with her and decided it was a perfect time to reveal the boob.Oh, and I'm on R51's side when it come to the nipple jewelery. It wasn't a nipple pastie. sleep.gif

are u being sarcastic? because your basicly wrong. First off, janet is not a rising pop star, shes a fading pop star who desperately needs some publicity. Which is why she would aggree to expose her self.

I think that the big issue is that the Superbowl is supposed to bo considered a "family thing" and CBS is (or was) a fairly conservative channel (though why they were singing "It's Getting Hot in Here" is beyond me).

I didn't see it, but the next day, after people going on about it at school all day, my mom brings it up. My little brother (7-years old) was watching with her. When it happened, she said he had the most embarassed look on his face. Not able to think of anything else to say, she said, "Don't worry, it's not real."
I, of course, said, "At least you were honest."

So they might not let MTV do the Superbowl anymore? Bring in CMT! laugh.gif

So I'm guessing the lyrics "He's got a nice package alright, You know I'm gonna have to ride him tonight" mean nothing to you?

Justin later issued the statement "we like to give the media something to talk about." Case in point, it was a publicity stunt that he and Jackson agreed upon. The line "And we better be naked, by the end of this song" plays, and he rips off part of her shirt. I mean come on, you'd have to be kidding me for anyone to possibly believe that it was an "accident".

And Fading is right. Janet peaked in the early 90's, and recently popped back onto the radar in the past couple years.

Anyways, I'd definitely agree with Sabin that the halftime show was just plain terrible. It was like they came up with the show 3 years ago and scrapped it until this year. Blah, it's pretty obvious what they were trying to do though. They're trying to market to teenagers and early 20's people who don't have a firm grasp in the football watching department. They already know that true fans, and older guys are going to watch the Super Bowl no matter what, so now they're just trying to be "hip" with all the "rockin" new songs of "this" year.
