OK, this is awful, but I wanted to know how I could possible make it not-so-awful by posting it here. Lemme explain why I did this: you know those cool little sprites that this very site has in their avatar database for FFVII, FFVIII, and FFIX characters? Well, I thought, "Why come there's none for FFVI?", so I made one of Edgar from FFVI.

Terriboo, no?

Well, I just wanna know what you guys think of it. Suggestions on how to make it better, on which character to make next (yes, I want to torture you ), etc. Comments and critiques are always welcome, of course.

If you mean how long did it take me, it took me about 45 min- 1 hour, probably.
I think that I like it, personally, too, but I still think it's somewhat... lacking...

You mean you want to make a moving one like the one Bismark has? Or do you want to just make a still sprite?

Well, either way the design is pretty good. You might want to think about making the sprite more Chibi-ish (bigger head and eyes smaller body). Like the one Bismark has. Don't have him holding his spear with his arm so high up either. Just kinda looks unnatural.

I don't know how to make the moving avatar things so I can't help you there if thats what you are wanting. But if you do it you could have something simple like his hair and cape blowing in the wind. If you could somehow have Edgar hitting on women in the sprite that would probably suit him better.

I think that a moving one would be too hard. I'm just gonna concentrate on getting a few cool FFVI non-moving sprites (or ones for all the characters) and then see about getting them animated.

Yeah, I agree about that. I'm not very good at this sprite drawing, and this didn't take me very long, so I was kinda hurrying. I'll create a more detailed one... some other time.

Well, I'm glad that people seem to like it so far. Surprised, too.

Anyone have an idea for the next character's sprite? Who should it be?

I think that you should make a good Terra sprite.

And by the way, it's very cool, but you never answered my question in the chat last night. Were you using/looking at one of the animated ones we already have for a reference?

On a technical note, always use GIF or PNG compression for sprites, never JPEG. GIF is probably the best for now, since the worst common browser (Internet Explorer) STILL doesn't support PNGs properly.

If you want to make it into something that could be widely used, you need to make sure the edges are clean (not blended with the background colour) and that it works just as well if you have a dark colour behind the sprite instead of a light one. Unfortunately it is not possible to test this on the posted image because JPEG compression has added way too much noise.

Artistically, well, I know nothing, which is why I never comment in here. But I'd agree with Rujuken's comments in general (in the past, I've been more inclined to add avatars to the database on the basis of how closely they fit with our current sets), and also I think the hair could do with a little tweaking somehow. But a nice effort, and better than anything I ever came up with.

Give your Edgar Sprite one of his tools, like the autocrossbow, come on, you'd have to have something wrong with you to use Edgar's normal weapons over his tools! Why is his right arm blue? shouldn't it be gree and have an elbow? Thats it from me.

Ay, well, a lot of things are wrong with me . I like the Tools, and that's probably a better characterizing... um... characteristic... of Edgar than a spear. His right arm is blue because that's his sleeve. It's not green.

It has no elbow because that's his pose, at the moment. When I tweak it, I will give him a tool, probably, so elbows will not be a problem, probably.

I'd say give him the chainsaw. That would be a good sprite if he was moving. Just have him buzz his saw. But I guess thats out 'cause your not doing a moving one.

But the crossbow would probably be better for a still sprite.
