Do all of your other roms work? What emulator are you using?

Mr. I90East,
I've emailed you a few times about your expert version but haven't received a response yet. I keep getting a "corrupt checksum header" when I load the SMC file into both SNES9X and ZSNES. I have the IPS and SMC files in the same directory and named exactly the same except for the file extensions. What else do I need to do to get this game to work? It sounds like a lot of fun to play! Thanks, -- amosender, Shawnee KS |

Sorry amosender, I don't check my e-mail much. I did get your PM but I was too puzzled to answer.
![]() Well let's see... it works for most people. Do all of your other roms work? When running this file, it does say something like "checksum=fail" but the game continues to run just fine. Did you wait to make sure nothing else happens? -------------------- FFXI (Siren server) Tauu the Windurstian Tarutaru! White Mage & Paladin |

If you're talking about using the IPS patch that is on CoN, I tested it right after I made it, and it worked in my ZSNES. I used SNESTool to hardpatch it, though, and it sounds like you're doing a softpatch, so I dunno.

I don't know about IPS or ZSNES's patching to say, but could this occur if the IPS was created against FF3USV1.0 and it was applied to V1.1, or vice versa?

Yes, I can play many other ROM's without any problems at all. I can even play other hacks, but I still can't get yours to work.
Here's the ROM information when I load your Expert Version ROM into SNES9X: File: C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Desktop\SNES\FinalFantasyIII\Hacks\FF3_Expert\FFVI_Hard.smc Name: B??? ??B?}{? `? ?E??J Speed: 4A/SlowROM ROM Map: LoROM Type: 4a Kart contents: ROM+RAM+S-DD1 Header ROM Size: Corrupt Calculated ROM Size: 32 Mbits SRAM size: Corrupt Actual Checksum: A396 Header Checksum: 0554 Header Checksum Compliment: AD42 Output: NTSC 60Hz CRC32: 6880D109 Notice the difference between the Header Checksum and Actual Checksum values. Can the Header Checksum be changed so that it matches the Actual Checksum? I think this is what's causing the game to fail. Thanks for your help! -- amosender |

This has to do with the Colosseum item tree. I haven't gotten to that part of the game yet, but its pretty intimidating to know that I may not know what to bet to get some of the items that I NEED. So if you're reading this, could I PLEEEASE have a copy of the reworked item tree list? Its okay if you don't...but it would really help seeing as how I downloaded this version mainly for the Czar Dragon aspect.
Anyway, if its too much trouble, or if you want me to experience the full challenge of your expert version, could I at least know what items I need to bet to obtain: Illumina Genji Armor Genji Helmet It'd be a HUGE help. Thanks! This post has been edited by Piffer on 10th February 2004 22:53 |

the guy who you talk too to get into the colliseam and bet has an option to tell you some of the major item tree's..so no big worries there

Ahh yes I was going to e-mail you back. While at home I searched my computer only to find that I deleted the list, and I also threw out the paperwork months ago. My suggestion to you is to download this editor, FF3 Multi Editor, and look at the item tree using that. Also like artent said, try talking to people in the Colosseum. They will reveal limited information.

Ok, this may be a very easy problem, but I'm new to emulators. In fact, I just downloaded my first today.
I'm using ZSNES, which I've heard is good, and I've got several games to work for it. But when I try to download your expert version, it says that the compressed file is invalid or corrupt. It won't unzip (it says that it's empty) and thusly it can't be loaded in the ZSNES menu. I tried downloading your patch that you include with it (in the same folder) but that didn't do any good. I...don't really know if I'm supposed to do something with the patch to make it work, or what. If it's not too painful for you, could you tell me how to get this to work? Be gentle. ![]() This post has been edited by io_rage on 12th February 2004 05:03 |

Not sure I have the question exactly right.. but I think this hyurr might help:
Download said patch from the i90east site. Download a normal, average, every day FFVI (or FF3 US) rom. MAKE SURE YOU OWN THE CART, FIENDS! Put them both in the same directory. Give them both the same name, except that one will end in .smc (I think it's smc?) and the other will end in .ips. Run ZSNes, open the rom. It should boot straight into hard mode. If this does not work.. find SNESTool (yahoo search worked for me, if not, email me and I send you a copy) and hard patch it following the useful instructions. Should ALL THAT fail, and it might, I'll see if I can't hinder my moral obligations and take your word that you own the cart, and email you my working copy. Email's at [email protected] Jace |

There are two choices for playing the expert version. You can either download the full rom, or you can download the ips patch to change a regular FF3us rom to the expert version. All you have to do for the full rom is unzip it into any directory you want, then tell your emulator to play it. If for some reason that doesn't work, you should download a utility that will let you patch a regular FF3us rom with the expert version IPS patch. SNEStool is a good one to use.
If you're still having problems, please describe the nature of the problem so that we can figure out what's wrong. Thanks. -------------------- FFXI (Siren server) Tauu the Windurstian Tarutaru! White Mage & Paladin |
