Whats everyones favourite musical pieces in videogames? It can be ending themes, BGM, licensed music (EG: The Ace of Spades in THPS3) ,Boss fight music, whatever.
Heres mine 5-FF VI's Music -Oh, come on. You need an explaination for why i've listed this? So it should sound dated. But it doesnt. Truly a remarkable set of music 4-Worms 3D Main Menu BGM -Its just so quirky and crazy, just like the game. A very fitting little song 2=MGS2 Theme 2=Max Payne 2 Theme -Both these main themes have similarities: They both fit the game very well, -MGS2's is a good song for action as its quite fast-paced and sounds so good. Max Payne 2's is a sort of mournful, depressing song, with some sort of string instrument that ive fogotten the name of for the main beat. They both sound good too. 1-Late Goodbye (Max Payne 2) Fitting end/credits theme. Possible spoilers: highlight to view After all, almost everyone excpet Max and Bravura that was in game are dead, IIRC so this song which starts off slow, then gets louder towards the end, with such great lyrics, really is quite fitting for the end of a great game. And a sort of sub-topic: What music would you like to see in a videogame? Personally, i would love Linkin Park, Evanescence and Ozzy Osbourne music in a Warhammer 40,000 game. And just Ozzy in an FF Game. Much better than that rock-type music in FFX that sounded like rob zombie after a litre of tequila. -------------------- "Only the dead have seen the end of their quotes being misattributed to Plato." -George Santayana "The world will little note, nor long remember what we say here..." -Abraham Lincoln, prior to the discovery of Irony. |

1. FFVI (SNES)
2. Mega Man 2-4 (NES) 3. Sonic 1-3 (GEN) 4. Zelda: Link to the Past (SNES) 5. Descent (PC) 6. F-Zero (SNES) 7. Top Gear 1-2 (SNES) 8. Streets of Rage 2 (GEN) 9. Need For Speed 3 (PC) 10. X-Com (PC) Quote What music would you like to see in a videogame? Anything that's specifically made for a video game. I feel that developers are getting lazy by simply buying up licenses for already made music. Most of the time this music doesn't even belong in a video game. Music is a touchy thing. If you put a lot of hard rock in a game people will hate it. If you put rap music in a game people will hate it. Music made specifically for a game is universal. There's usually no annoying vocalist with terrible lyrics. I stay away from most mainstream stuff. Do game developers expect me to sit through budget CD filler crap that's supposed to resemble music with lyrics that have nothing to do with the game or my life?? I don't think so. Keep video game music in video games. Don't force people to listen to what they don't want to hear. A good game will always have music made specifically for it which fits and defines the theme perfectly. In my opinion no game does this better than FFVI. ICO -- I could fall asleep to the tune that comes up whenever you're saving your game. It's just so beautiful.
Silent Hill -- I got the soundtrack to the third game, but I will NEVER play it as I want to go to sleep this month. FFVI -- Give in seeing as how the third section of Dancing Mad is one of my favorite pieces of music PERIOD. Secret of Mana -- God, there are just too many great songs in this game. Super Metriod -- The music in this game really got on my nerves, but not in an irritating way, more like a 'jeez I'm nervous enough as it is' kinda way. Brinstar especially tickled my spine. Definetely nerve racking. Plok! -- What a great theme song! I actually popped into the SNES a few times just to hear the song. More'll come if I think about it...maybe. I really can't list mine but there are two that always stand out to me. First is all the music from FF games. It doesn't matter which game it is (with the exception of FF1-3) they are all great. The second one is the Medal of Honor games. The music in those games really gets me going and want to kill people. The only other ones I would consider would be the Megaman games but they are no where near as good as those other two.

ALL the FF games have music that makes me gotta go. Here's a weird little thing I did: I downloaded FF midis from FFI-FFXI, put them all into a Winamp playlist, and I just play them all on Shuffle mode. It don't matter that most of them I've never heard before. They're still pretty darned awesome. Uematsu is a musical genius.

Quote (Vei @ 18th January 2004 00:40) WHAT? No Castlevania: Symphony of the Night? That has got to be THE best OST to any video game EVER. So true! I'm with you all the way! Symphony Of The Night hosts some of the best songs ever! ![]() Other games that have wonderful music: * Mega Man I-III (Someone said number IV, I can't agree with that. That music SUCKS! Sorry to say it, but I can't stand it.) * Secret Of Mana (SNES) * Final Fantasy VI and VII (SNES & Playstation) * Maniac Mansion (NES) * Power Blade (NES) * Goonies II (NES) That theme is the greatest, although it's a synthizised version of a real song. Update: ARGH! Forgot some games! I'll add them now: * Ninja Gaiden (NES) Amazing music! Number 2 and 3 didn't have that good music though. * Deja Vu, Shadowgate and Uninvited (NES) Perfect music for the tensed atmosphere. The song when you enter the dead man's room in the first building in Deja Vu has got to be THE creepiest game song ever! Resident Evil sounds like pop music compared to that song! ![]() This post has been edited by Shirrow on 4th February 2004 21:38 -------------------- People say I'm a slow learner, but I type fast! |

The music in FFVI and CT was awesome. And I agree with the guy who mentioned the MoH series. The only reason I finished Rising Sun was to hear the music and kill people.

It's true, SOTN does have great music, but for my liking, there was not enough variation in the reverse castle to make my top 10.
The 'Requiem to the Gods' theme was amazing though! It probably is the best single piece of videogame music ever. But I see no-one has mentioned Castlevania IV ![]() Ah well, it must be me and my quirky tastes! -------------------- Chrono Triggers rock super-group: Ozzie - lead singer from Black Sabbath Flea - Bassist from Red Hot Chilli Peppers Slash - Guitarist from Guns 'n' Roses He drinks and smokes his cares away His heart is in the lonely way Living in the ruins Of a castle built on sand... In no order.
1. Mega Man 1-3 (NES) 2. Sonic 1 and 2 (Gen.) 3. FF6 (Yes Dancing Mad, and both world map songs) 4. FF7 (Boss Battle, good call Griever, and pre-meteor world map, and Sephiroth theme) 5. Golden Axe (Arcade, even gloomier than the Genesis version) 6. Streets of Rage 2 (Gen., and I usually don't like techno) 7. Ninja Gaiden (NES, thanks for pointing that out Shirrow, I never noticed 2's music isn't as good as 1's) 8. Ghouls and Ghosts (Gen.) 9. Mario 3 (NES) 10. I don't play a lot of new games... so 10 is devoted to whichever ones have good tunes -------------------- Get me off this Disciplinary Committee so I can play any FF except for FF8!!! |

Seiken Densetsu 3 after that followed by... Either FF6 or Secret of Mana. Can't decide which. |

Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy VI have the best music hands down.
After that, ones with nice and/or well-fitting music include FFIV, FFV, FFVII, SMRPG, many Mega Man and MMX games, and Super Metroid. -------------------- Check the "What games are you playing at the moment?" thread for updates on what I've been playing. Here's my top 10 in no particular order, with their overall soundtrack in the basis:
#1 Sonic The Hedgehog series. This music is pretty spectacular, and aptly goes along with its respective stages. Good stuff. #2 FF6 of course. We all know why. #3 Chrono Trigger. Excellent theme music for the characters, and an overall solid soundtrack to complement the game's unique gameplay. #4 Secret of Mana. Some of their themes still go through my head subconsciously, although I do not wonder why. Catchy tunes, I guess. #5 FF1. Strange though as it may seem, it has some very good tracks. The water fiend's dungeon, and most notably the final dungeon (temple of fiends) have beautiful pieces. Plus the battle tune is quite catchy. And, it has the original Final Fantasy theme in its purest, simplest form |
