For me, it would be Kefka's. I never can say I really like his theme though, but I picked him because apparently my sub-concience likes it. Let me explain. I'm sitting in my class room surrounded by fellow seniors. Then out of no where, I start humming Kefka's theme. I think I did it during a test. People would look at me and I would say, "What, is there something wrong?" One time, one of my friends who has also played ff6 said to me to stop humming Kefka's theme. I replied, "What are you talking about it?" After seeing that I was serious, he laughed and said, "You have been humming Kefka's theme for the past week." No words could explain what I was thinking. I just started laughing.
Thats why I voted for Kefka's theme. I know, I'm crazy ![]() -------------------- I will be the mustard of your doom! |

I would have put in "other" as well but it doesn't matter for my vote, gotta go with Locke's theme, best theme in any FF game

The battle themes are so classic, but I vote for Terra's theme. You know, I didn't realize that the WoB field music was Terra's theme until just 3 months ago, and I've been playing this game since it came out.

The best character themes: Terra, Locke, Shadow, Cyan, Setzer, Strago, Umaro, Gogo, Kefka, Daryl
The best area themes: the overworld theme (a Terra remix), Slam Shuffle (Zozo), Spinach Rag, Searching for Friends The best event themes: Save Them (e.g. Narshe battle), The Unforgiven (e.g. airship crash), Catastrophe (floating continent disintegration), the power of the statues (the version of the War of the Magi theme which ends not in a melody over chords but parallel chords) The best battle themes: boss, AtmaWeapon, and all of Dancing Mad (i.e. final battle) (especially the third and fourth tracks) That's all I can think of now. Edit: [adding the information from a later post] responding to Vei's comment about the "Crazy Old Man's" theme: Add that theme to my list of the best event themes. Whooo. Tough choice. Right off the top of my head, Slam Shuffle. That is definitely my favorite. There are a lot of pieces that are jostling for second place, though; among them are Cyan's, Shadow's, Terra's, and Kefka's themes, Wild West, and just about all of the battle themes.

There are just too many great songs in this game to play favorites with. Uematsu may not be my favorite composer, but, pound for pound, the FF VI OST is his best work, IMO, simply because of the ratio of awesome songs compared to the total number of tracks.
I guess my most memorable (as in the ones I can remember really liking...I'm probably forgetting more than a few ![]() ![]() This post has been edited by Vei on 10th December 2003 07:20 -------------------- "N'GHAAA! Gau's theme is one of my top favorite themes, along with Terra's Theme, Celes' Theme, and Cyan's Theme. They all capture their character's essence perfectly I think.
Kefka's theme also ranks high up there, it's got that perfect clownish "I'll have the last laugh" attitude. And with reshaping the world permanently, he kinda did ![]() I also find myself listening to the opera theme a lot, because it's such a well-done theme. That, and the final marathon battle music (Dancing Mad) was the most impressive piece of music in the game, IMO. |

Well, since the poll got edited out, I guess I can have more than one favorite now.
Kefka's 'Dancing Mad' Figaro Castle Battle Atma Battle Boss Battle (music is so much cooler if you're fighting) M-Tek 'Devil's Lab' Prelude (me likes arpeggios) Both 'Airship' themes Well, I know there are more really awesome ones, but that's all I want to put right now. Because I'm la - a - z - (head smacks down on keyboard) ... ... ... ... Wha---? Oh, as I was saying, um... What was I talking about? -------------------- Wow. 1,000 posts. On the topic of music, I've been wondering...
How many themes have the "Terra" motive (the first 5 notes of the melody of Terra's theme) in them? I can count Terra's theme, "Save Them!", the WoB overworld theme, and "Catastrophe" (end of the Floating Continent)--are there any more? -------------------- Check the "What games are you playing at the moment?" thread for updates on what I've been playing. I thought that the final battle has the best music. FFVI has some of the best music on the SNES. But in my opinion Castevania IV just shades it.

I'm a big fan of the Veldt music and also Gau's theme, for the little that you get to hear it.
Just out of curiousity: when in the game can you hear Gau's theme other than when he is introduced? During the scene with him and his "father" maybe? |

OK, after listening to every FFVI midi about a zillion times, I have found out that i love Relm's Theme. Don't ask me why. It just sounds really cool, and fits her very well.
Here's a music related thought. Has anyone else ever noticed that FF game music (FFVI in particular) uses instruments not generally realted to each other? for example, the Boss Battle music has drums, strings, keyboard, organ, and some other background instruments that are hard to pick out. On some midis, there seems to be vocals, also ![]() EDIT: I noticed that I started each paragraph with "OK," EDIT2: added URLs This post has been edited by Figaro on 12th January 2004 14:41 -------------------- Wow. 1,000 posts. What I do, pianomaster, is that my school has this really nice keyboard with a floppy disk drive, and so I get to play FF midis on there. I take a midi (for example, the chocobo theme from FFVI) and tailor out a part that I can play. Then, I save the midi to a floppy disk, put it in the keyboard, set the sound to Harpsichord (it's the chocobo theme, after all), press play, and I can play the harpsichord part in the chocobo song! Neat, huh?
I do this with a lot of FF songs, exclusively VI so far. I'm gonna start doing them from VII soon. Oh BTW, I'm no good at piano (I took lessons for like 2 years some 7 years ago), but the chocobo song was really easy to learn ![]() This post has been edited by Figaro on 12th January 2004 21:19 -------------------- Wow. 1,000 posts. My favourite piece has got to be the final battle up the tower. Also including the final battle with Kefka. It's Baroque madness baby!
But if I've said it once, I've said it a 1000 times, Castlevania IV has the best videogame music ever! -------------------- Chrono Triggers rock super-group: Ozzie - lead singer from Black Sabbath Flea - Bassist from Red Hot Chilli Peppers Slash - Guitarist from Guns 'n' Roses He drinks and smokes his cares away His heart is in the lonely way Living in the ruins Of a castle built on sand... Figaro and ffpianomaster,
It seems that you guys have the same interest in FF music that I do--I love to play them on the piano, and I can play all the character themes except Locke, Gau, and Relm (because I haven't learned them yet). Unlike what you might expect, I don't use the "official" piano scores (they are way too simplified and don't have the same spirit); I make my own transcriptions and try to replicate the original texture. -------------------- Check the "What games are you playing at the moment?" thread for updates on what I've been playing. Yeah, I don't care to much for the Doremi versions. Those are the ones that are supposed to sound almost like the actual song. But there are another type offcial arrangements called the "Piano Collections". Now those are awesome. They may not be like the original song, but they are much harder then the Doremi arrangements. I don't really play any of the Doremi because they are too simple and don't sound that good. Moderator Edit It's cool that you guys play the music, but the topic is which music is your favorite. Boy, there's so many to choose... I can't actually say that I dislike any of the tracks, but my absolute favorites are Kefka's theme (not the final one, the one you hear everytime you see him in the WoB), the WoB field song, the rag that you hear in some cafes, the song you hear in the cafe in Albrook, and Jidoor's music in the WoR. Those are my favorites, but I find myself suspending gameplay to listen to just about every song in the game.

This is the main theme to the FF-games (I think), and it's terrible! It's not even a good riff. It's just a beginner piano student's warm up scale excercise! I've always loved the Crystal Prelude, and FFVI's version of it is the best in my opinion. I loved the music for this game. I'm an electronic musician so I listen to the synthesis and modulation choices (like pitch bends, slides, glissandos, and how they were implemented) and I must say they really took the SNES music chip to its limits here. My favourite peice of all time has got to be the final Character Medley though. It was so well done, and the segues between themes were well meshed giving even more connection between certain characters. (The lead into Locke's theme from Celes' theme comes to mind.) I'm also a fan of orchestral arangements for games, and movies like this. I enjoyed Dancing Mad too. What a great end boss theme! I used to load my saved game from there and just let it play with the battle set to wait. I would also just let the end music play too. (after you beat that 'thing' so many times it becomes routine.)
