is there something to do against ultima spell cast by the magi master in fanatic tower ?

Not too much you can do about it.

It uses Ultima as a Final Attack only, so you only need to worry about this attack once. There's only a couple ways to avoid the damage.

1) RASP/OSMOSE his MP away so he has less than 80 MP. Note also: MagiMaster dies when his MP=0.

2) Everyone has HIDE status (ie JUMPed offscreen) during the attack.

3) The old standby, Life 3 all party members. Everyone wont have full HP after this, but they will still get the AP.

(Rather interesting that the asker and the answerer both have Alexandr as their avatars.)

How high a level (not counting esper bonuses) would allow your party to, at full HP, absorb MagiMaster's Ultima and still survive? As I remember it does over 6000 damage.

without Shell damage = ~8568 (min L86)
with Shell damage = ~5690 (min L65)

if Shell doesnt help, then you are stuck with ~8568 damage.

Shell has no effect against ignore defense spells actually.

I went the Rasp/Osmose route when I did it and... boy does it take a while! I wonder what's more tedious: that or getting to level 86?

What about trying to get your magic defence high by equipping Force Armour etc...?

You can also never dodge Ultima no matter how high the Magic evade.

Ultima ignores defense, like I said above. Mag.Def won't help.

Make sure you grab the experience egg in Daryl's tomb then be on a high enough level or load up on high level magic and head to the Dragon Forest (the ? shaped one where you fight Tyranosaurs) level up there by passing the exp egg around until you're at level have at least 7000 hp or so. Fight the Magi Master and win. You'll have done a lot of tedious leveling up, but it will be necessary anyway since you'll want to be on high levels for Kekfa's tower. You'll also have learned alot of magic by then. When you get high enough in the Dragon Forest you can finish leveling up in Kefka's tower. Just take the party you want to level up and leave one person near the crane. Run around in Kefka's tower getting all treasures and beating bosses and such.

Or just get the Pheonix esper and learn life3.

But then you'll have to level up later anyway.

Well, you've either got to do the Life3 thing, which, if you do things all out of order like I do, isn't always an option, or... you could equip the Muscle Belt and the Red Cap on your highest level character, and hope he has enough hit points.

Or maybe Berserk and Dragoonboots? But that's just venturing into the realm of silly.

Can you mute MagiMaster? Because if you could...(wow, the possibilities are endless!)...at least he wouldn't be able to throw that Ultima casting at you.

Do you really think it would be that easy? Magimaster blocks all status ailments.

There are a few statuses, which he is not immune to: including Berserk, Charm, Float, Frozen, and HP Leak. There are some others but it would be nearly impossible to get them to work in TOF or they are beneficial to him.

Berserk will prevent him from casting WallChange.
It might be useful to cast Float on him, if Locke has the Hawk Eye and you cast Berserk on him. I haven't tried this, but theoretically, it should work.
I don't think its possible to get Charm, Frozen or HP Leak to work either. But someone might be able to come up with something clever.

HP Leak is from Phantasm, so that's impossible.

Charm and N. Cross are only accessible through Rage, and since you can't have Rage in-battle in the Fanatic's Tower, that too is impossible.

And Berserk has a disadvantage; if you have Reflect, you now give him the opportunity to hit you with something besides Ultima. If you're going to drain his MP or if you don't need elementals to finish the fight, there's no reason to cast Bserk.

In a normal game, Berserk is probably not the easiest way to go. Stick with the generic 4 Wall Rings strategy and let him kill himself with spells. In a normal game, you also have the luxury of 4x Life 3 and never have to blink when he casts Ultima. This is all quite trivial.

But in a low level game, if you employ the basic 4 Wall Ring strategy, he may kill himself before you can Rasp him to death. Then you have to deal with an Ultima. So I employ the Berserk/Phantom strategy. In this way you can Rasp him at your leisure.

Bring Celes and have her use runic just before the final blow. Ultima is the only runicable non-blockable that I know of.

I've thought about doing that before, Aminomin, but then I think about the timing that would have to happen in order to get it off...I mean, you're limited to magic so much that your only hope for getting the Runic off before Ultima would be berserking someone or bringing Umaro, and either of those would be REALLY difficult to time correctly. I suppose you could make it easier if you monkeyed with time through Haste and Slow, but still...

It's still a good idea and would be worth trying.

Well basiccaly before i knew of the life 3 thing, i justleveled my guy up a whole lot and used some item(the muscle belt i believe)and only he lived. I did'nt miss the AP However due to my leveling up location in the cactuar/Hoover desert. Every Party Member i had Already had Mastered every Esper

One more thing the easiest way ive found to kill him is making sure my entire party Knows Flare! It is unstatus effected so You know...

Holy crap, I completely forgot. Maybe muddling her would work?

I found an easy to beat the magi master, but he will still cast Ultima at the end. So make sure you have life3, or other defensive spells.

Cast berserk on him then vanish you're party. Easy as that.

That is actually the strategy I use as well. I believe it was also named by a few people during this topic as well, under the "beserk/phantom esper" combination.

Gah, I grew impatient after reading a few replies. His Ultima spell dosent necessarily kill you though, If you manage to keep you're HP really high then you have a fighting chance at surviving his Final Attack.

Yeah, I barely post.

The simplest way to aviod Ultima at the end is casting life3 but to avoid his attacks is to cast berserk on him and then summon phantom, after that use Life3 on everyone!

I think my characters were at level 60 when I beat him. the highest level was Terra at 63 and the lowest was Relm at 55.

I think the easiest way to beat him is just with Life 3. but for me, it doesn't seem right. I'm going to be leveling up my characters anyway, may as well do a lot of it beforehand. I consider the Gem Box the prize for my hard work
