I just saw the trailer for the FFVII movie: Advent Children, and O M G, I'm about to crap my pants. It looks awesome. I only hope that Square isn't trying to make money off of a good thing dry.gif Me thinks Square would do that. Anyway, what is your take on the subject of this new movie?
Nice Pic of Movie

Even though FF7 wasn't my favorite game of all time, it still had a really awsome story, and the prospect of a sequal gets me really excited laugh.gif . I really doubt square is just trying to make money off of it. And you know its at least going to be better then the spirits within. THAT was an attempt to make money pinch.gif .

I think the only reason a company like that makes games is to make money...they can't sell that for free. It's the point of business. They probably figured that a sequel to FF7 would be a good money-making tool as it appeals to want a good number of their fanbase wants.

I've known about this movie for quite awhile... about 4 months or so. I couldn't believe it. I think this movie will be pretty good, except that its only 60-80 mins long. A good thing is, that Nobuo Uematsu is doing the music. I've seen a bunch of screens and trailers. It looks like there is 3 Sephiroth clones. And the person in the wheel chair may be Sephiroth. There's going to be 20+ Characters in the film. It's coming out around Summer 2004 in Japan. I'm not sure when it's scheduled to release in America.
I can't wait for this movie. It better be good.

I have but three wishes for this movie.
1)-Chcobos!
2)-blood and carnage!
3)- a little realism with certian things in game that were a tad out of proportion... huh.gif

Rats. Oh well, if a whole movie is like an FMV cut-scene with words, then 60-80 min is fine with me tongue.gif

When I first heard about this, I was pretty skeptical. I'm still not sure whether this is going to be worthwhile or not. Take anime movies based on series, for example--some of them are great (okay, so I can't think of any off the top of my head), and some of them are utterly incomprehensible and only superficially related to anything in the known universe (Ah! My Goddess and Escaflowne) (okay, so I'm exaggerating). My point is that while the capacity to do this well certainly does exist, that doesn't meant that it will be well-done.

At least I know I can always come here to find out what everyone else thinks is going on. wink.gif And, in my opinion, Uematsu doing the music is a good sign.

Her hair was far too long.

5)- 60-80 minutes long? let me remind you this is the best length for a film. After all, when Braveheart's three or so hours ended, 9/10 cinemagoers yelled "FREEDOM!" on the way out...
And those leaving screenings of Harry Potter yelled 'schools out for summer!'

6)-Lines i DONT want to see in the movie:
"The key is to know there is no buster sword." (The Matrix)
"Cloud has come here to kick ass and chew bubblegum. And hes all out of Bubblegum" (dunno, but its a good quote.)
" the cursed ring is the tool of the dark lord sauron. " (LOTR)
"dont stab untill you see the whites of their eyes" (Zulu)
Tifa or Yuffie yelling "Lets Roock!"(Aliens)
"Dead or alive, you're coming with me" (Robocop)
"Follow the white rabite" (The Matrix/8-bit theatre)
"Smoke me a kipper. I'll be back in time for breakfast" (Red Dwarf)

Edit
I have but six wishes for this movie...

Hmm. I wasn't a real big fan of FFVII's storyline, but then I'm an old school hard liner FF fan. How many of you can say you started by playing FF1 and progressed from there? I think the Snes FFs were the best ones I've played. (haven't played any of 'em beyond the PSX) FFVII was weaker than FFV in my opinion. (note: OPINION)

Do they plan to release this in theatres? If it were going straight to DVD then this would be good, but I do not think this will survive a theatrical release. FF SW barely did. (even though it was most obviously an FFVII rehash...)They should make an FFVI movie. That would kickass and be a much deeper story.

I just don't think that the FF series survived the initial platform switch after FFVI very well. I liked FFVIII well enough, but it wasn't until FFIX that I really got back into it. I don't have the money to blow on a PS2 or a Cube so I think I may be giving up on the series for now. (I'm 22 and need to focus on more important things in life right now)

It won't be a full length movie so I'm assuming it'll just be a DVD. I'd rather see a remake of FFVI the game instead of a movie, but either one would be cool. The PS2 FFs arn't worth playing imo. Square has really lost it's touch. They started slipping with FFVII and it's been downhill ever since.

Lost touch with what? SNES gamers? There's a pretty simple answer there. Square's a business, and has to change along with the changing marketplace. If they made old style FF games, they wouldnt sell plain and simple (to the vast majority of new and upcoming gamers i mean, obviously). They have to go where the money is.

The movie looks good so far. And yeah, definitely not theatrical here.

I can. happy.gif

I won't deny that the older games have their charm, but I really enjoy the newer ones as well. I'm just really easy to please, I guess. I can think of moments in every game that I've played during which I was grinding my teeth in frustration, and moments during which I was jumping around with glee (often to the amusement of my roommate or my parents).

I agree with Tidu-who; there's a lot to be said for nostalgia, but the whole point of nostalgia is that things just aren't done that way anymore, for better or for worse. It would be silly of the game companies to go back to making things the way they used to, when there are all these other things they haven't tried yet.

As for me, I'm really looking forward to that FFVII movie. I was practically drooling over the trailer. I've always thought that FFVII would be one of the best candidates in the series to make a movie out of. VI and IV are my other choices. smile.gif

I was one happy SNES gamer. tongue.gif But seriously all I need are good gameplay, storyline, and great music. It needs to look nice too. Otherwise I'm happy with an evolving company. I just don't want them to fixate on something that wasn't necessarily better than what came before...

I heard about the movie but 2 important things
1) its either gonna come out in movies--theaters
2)squareenix is gonna have the movie with the remake of FFVII

I heard both of these things in deffrent mags which makes me think, magazines posting slander just to get some customers or the truth. Personally I'd rather have it in Theaters so I can stay in there for about 50 times till some usher coms kick me out laugh.gif

I am realy looking forward to it. Me and my girlfriend are playing FF VII now.

As for the FF VI movie, I'm sorry, but there are to many characters for it. It would either be 4-5 hours long (I wouldn't have a problem with it, but mainstreamwould.) or it would be like Street Fighter, with all the characters, but thrown into random roles.

I just watched the trailer and I didn't think it was that great. Well, I don't read Japanese, so that might be a reason. But it seems that the movie will be quite good, although unfortunately Cloud and Sephy won't look the way they did in the game (they looked better there).

One thing I did like was the music. I've commented before somewhere else in these forums that I thought the FFVII music was cinematic, and more suited for a movie than for a game. I like how they're having Uematsu use the original music (I think that's what he's going to do) for this movie--that will sure make it great. I just gotta ask, since I haven't finished the game yet, in the trailer, what's that strange orb that those white wind lines are converging at?

FFVII was my first final fantasy game and remains one of my favourites. FF6 is my favourite, but those people who think Square started to slip at FF7, you're just afraid of change.

The movie looks cool. Imma see it. 'Nuff said. I just hope they have Cait Sith in it, wtih a cool voice and saying some funky lines. That would rock. thumbup.gif

I have to say, it wouldn't be a good movie if everyone was in it. Here's the people I would have cast:

Cloud: The hero, obviously
Barrett: Him an' Cloud are best mates really.
Tifa: She's important to the story and hot.
Yuffie: So spunky and cute!
Vincent: Didn't get enough chance to show himself in the last game.

Cait Sith, Red and Cid, I think you can't have everyone make a return, or at least as a main character. Nevertheless...Cid's attitude would be good on the big screen...meh. happy.gif

I can't wait! I can only hope that they package it as a DVD with a remake of the game, as going to the movies enough to satisfy my wish to see this would bankrupt me with nothing to show for it, this way I'd at least have a copy of the game and be able to see it as much as I want.

I too began my Final Fantasy adventures back on the NES, altho it does seem that many FF fans now-a-days never heard of it before FFVII came out. I think you can chalk that up to a new generation of gamers.

There was a quote like this in Dazed and Confused, precisely "I only came here to do two things, drink some beer and kick some ass. Looks like we're all outta beer."

I have to say, I'm excited to see how this turns out. I've been a huge fan of Square for years now, and they have yet to dissapoint me. I even liked The Spirits Within, to this day it's the only movie I've seen in a theater more than once. Sure, there's been some games I've liked less than others, but I've always found something enjoyable about each one, be it story, character developement, or battle system. Square is the only company I can buy a game from without knowing anything about it and feel like I got my moneys worth.

Actually the kick ass and bubblegum comment is from the game Duke Nukem 3d which is in turn taken from a line in the John Carpenter classic They Live!
