Huh? The first link makes this claim:
http://www.fantasyanime.com/finalfantasy/ff6ff7.htm http://www.jzcool.net/ff/ffsgi/ffsgipics.htm I thought that these were just shots from when the developers at Square were playing around with the Nintendo 64's graphics engine, seeing what was possible for Final Fantasy VII (before they made the jump to Sony). Those were indeed N64 demo shots, if I remember my Super Play. I suppose it's impossible to say now whether they would have become Final Fantasy VII, but I consider it pretty unlikely, personally, given their lack of direct-sequilitis in the FF series until 10.

i don't remember where i heard it, but yes i do belive that FF7 was originally intended to be a direct sequal to FF6. It fell thru however, because some fans complained about upholding the tradition about never having a sequal to FF games.

it seems they didn't get very far before they realized they'd rather go with sony
oh well it woud have been intersting, but of course if square hadn't made that jump i would have never played final fantasy (because i only had a sony playstation at the release of VII, and VII was the first game i played, ever since ive loved the series) -------------------- "Have you ever seen a baby do that before?" |

I saw that somewhere else (I think someone posted it here somewhere), and they said it was supposed to be a re-release of FFVI.
Either way, it's not the REAL FFVII, since they didn't get very far with the project. It's like saying that one prototype for the NES is the REAL FFIV. Those screenshots were never anything concrete, as far as I know. The demo was produced on Silicon Graphics workstations like those Rare used to create Donkey Kong Country. It was meant to be a demo of how powerful the next generation of systems should be, not specificially a game of any sort for any system.

And I like how the chick they say is Terra has blond hair instead of green, something no true FF fan would stand for, even in a fanfic.
I heard that rumor a long time ago, but come on. What about FFVII makes it seem like it could be a sequel to FFVI any more so than any other game in the series? I think this whole thing is the work of a few jokers who started the rumor, and rabid, hopeful, fans who perpetuated it. -------------------- Veni, vidi, dormivi. |

Kara, what if they based Terra off of the Amano art? She's blonde there. >_>

I wanted to post something about Terra's green hair here, but I'll just start a new topic.

Some people say it's an older Relm (although Locke looks too young for this), others say it's Celes with a red outfit, some say it's Terra, and there are those who say it's a new character. A sequel to FFVI wouldn't make sense. I'd rather see a 3D remake of the game, just because it would offer a new perspective, offer much better quality sound and it would introduce a new generation of gamers to this great classic.
I wonder about this pic: ![]() You know all those computer drawn FFVI characters that look just like this? Did Square do all those? I always thought it was fan art. -------------------- FFXI (Siren server) Tauu the Windurstian Tarutaru! White Mage & Paladin |

I90, i think a 3d remake would ruin the magic and nostlagic memories that alot of fans have about the game. Part of the reason i love the game (and i'm sure other fans feel the same) are the charming character sprites. I think the extra CG scenes in the PSX re-release were enough.

This is what I heard, the Squaresoft was planning to make FF7 as a sequel game of FF6 (by popular demand
Honestly, these pictures are only thing I found to prove, but I don't think just these graphics would prove anything, but you do know that it's high possibility. I'm not saying FF7 first meant to be sequel of FF6, i'm just giving assertions If this belongs in news section, or general squaresoft gaming, i'm sorry or if everything knew this...my bad... ...and yes, I did notice that Terra has an yellow hair... http://www.geocities.com/ff3thamasa/ff6ff7/index.html i heard that these graphics are rare, if one of the squaresoft agents are trying to get me, be my human shield XP -------------------- I will be there... |

Someone else already posted something about this, I think...
I think the general concensus was that it's just a rumor, and that those were just preliminary graphics for a potential Final Fantasy game on the Game Cube for which they modeled existing characters. Game Cube? This was back in the 64 days, man...try again. I think those shots were just Square showing what they could do while presenting the public with characters who had by then become familiar (or they were just on a FF VI kick). Besides, a couple of shots in no way realates any sense of storyline elements, so I think FF VII would have happened regardless of these pictures.

Yep, those were just 'hey, lookit what we can do on N64!' and/or a trainign excercise for some new staff.
something some people may not have noticed that may be a little off-topic: Possible spoilers: highlight to view In FF9, if you Trance dagger, not only does her hair appear to turn blonde, but her clothing changes to a similar type to that worn by that 3D "Terra". Not only did this exact topic exist before, Bissy, but you were the last one to post in it. Is a little memory too much to ask?
Merged topics. And yes, it was clearly an N64 tech demo, rather than Gamecube. This post has been edited by Tiddles on 17th January 2004 12:07 |
