What instruments does everyone here play and how long? What brands do you prefer?
I personally have been playing bass for 3 years now and i use Crate amps and i have a Standard Fender P-Bass
I also have a 5 string Ibanez TR bass thats about 10 years old and it sounds liek it...lol
I play guitar and have been playing for a lil under a year. I have an Ibanez RG. Its a nice guitar for rockin out,but not so much for clasic rock.
I have one of those stupid lil mini Crate full stacks.
I also use a cheap Danalectro metal effect pedal.

and from personal experience, i wouldnt reccomend Fender guitar cords.

I've been playing recorder for seven years now.
I also tried my hand at (classical) guitar and flute, wasn't my style.

I prefer a plastic recorder (strangly enough, so do most profesionals) as the woods ones go out of tune very quickly. Right now, all my recorders are Yamaha Aolus; I have a Tenor, Alto, Soprano, and Sopranino recorder. If I can ever get the proper program set up on this computer, I'll post some Irish music. user posted image

I'm trying to get into Viola, but I can't find anyone to teach me. Drat.

I don't know if any of that qualifies as "rawking" per-say, but I don't think anyone will mind, eh?

I used to play the trumpet, which was OK, but then I got bored of it. I was forced to take piano lessons when I was 7. I might take up trumpet again, if I can find a band and a teacher. But for now, all I play is the computer. And various FFVI songs I've learned on the piano.

most people know that music revolves around my entire life... whether listening to it or playing, music needs to be in every second of my day.

I've been playing the trumpet for over 8 years now. It's a Holton that I've had since I took up the instrument way back in 4th grade. I'm glad that I have my own instrument versus having a school owned instrument as many others have so I can take it with me once I graduate. I play in the school band where I'm first chair and "co-captain" of the brass section.

I'm a bass player at heart though. I've been playing for 2 and a half years. Right now, I have a Washburn Bantam, but it's almost that time to replace that one. I think the bass is where my most musical talent lies. I used to be the bass player (and lead vocalist) in a band with two of my friends whenever I was in Connecticut (visiting my dad). But sadly we had to disband as our drummer graduated and entered the air force. My bass (and Fender amplifier) might be my most prized possessions right now. heart.gif

I've only recently started playing the drums on a regular basis, but I've always had the general jist and coordination to play. I bought a used drum set in November and have just had at it since. It's a Sunshine set with Paiste cymbals. It's really not the best set to own, but it's good enough for a beginner ameteur like I am. When I'm ready to shell out the big bucks for a brand spankin new, state of the art, hawt hawt hawt, best brand name drumset, I will. Since our Master of the Set throughout high school graduated last year, we were left without a set player for the jazz ensemble and pep band... so that was my oppurtunity to display my talents as a drummer, which has met with positive results as I'm getting compliments from my peers and other people (who've attended the concerts or basketball games).

I don't own a guitar, but I can play a couple of songs on my friend's acoustic. I have strong intentions to save up a couple weeks' paychecks and buy a nice electric guitar, specifically a used Fender Strat that I can learn on. And it's kinda strange cuz I remember getting my first bass, I specifically told everyone that I did not want to ever learn the guitar because the bass was the only instrument for me. Surprising how much changes in 2 and a half years.

I also have a Yamaha keyboard. I'm no piano player, but I can play a couple of things, if you count that. This is the instrument that gets the least amount of playing time. It helps when some people want to just hit it when they come over, so.

On my list of instruments to get/learn... Fender Strat (elec.), Ibanez 5S Wizard (bass), set of Zildjian cymbals, Taylor 12-string acoustic ($1,241 blink.gif )...

yeah... that's it

^-^

Let's see, starting from the earliest, I took piano lessons since I was 5, stopping at around 13. I currently own a yamaha keyboard (which is not with me right now, unfortunately), though I like playing real pianos too.

At 13, I started playing clarinet in school band, and really loved that. It was a yamaha again (school issue), and I played that for 3 years.

Around 15, I took bass guitar lessons from my band teacher, and I owned a flying A bass for a while, but I can't remember the brand name. It died soon ;_;

In High school, my band teacher upgraded me from clarinet to bass clarinet (which is bigger then a saxophone), and I really, really loved that instrument. Beautiful, rich, deep sound. School issue again, can't remember the brand, had it for three years.

Sometime then, probably in grade 10, I started taking acoustic guitar lessons, and I have a second-hand Yamaha acoustic guitar.

Currently, I'm not taking lessons in any instrument, but I'd like to start again.

I started with piano lessons when I was 10, and went on with it until I was about 14, I think. Then I joined my rock band, and started to play keyboards instead. Which I've been doing from that moment.

Also, I picked up the guitar a couple of years ago. My guitar is a Fender Morgan. Not a very expensive brand, I know. But it sounds great. I love it. I'm currently putting a lot of energy into practicing and playing the guitar, so I think I'm doing very fine. I can nearly play "Crazy Train" by Ozzy Osbourne now, lol laugh.gif ! (Awesome song, by the way!)

I'm a guitar and keyboard player in my heart, but I also sing some and play bass and drums when I get the time. Though I'm not as good at it as I am on guitar and keyboards. happy.gif

I have an Esteban guitar and an instructional video I haven't watched all the way through yet for Christmas. Does that count?

I played saxophone in school band from 4th or 5th grade until 7th grade where I switched to bassoon which was awesome. I stopped school band in 9th grade, and now I have a Series 10 bass and try to play old easy to play punk songs with my friends.

I played saxophone in school band from middle school to the end of freshmen year (more specifically after we took our band trip to Disney World). It was alright, but I got bored with it.

Now I just play my sister's acoustic here and there and try to learn some songs so i can pretend that i know what i'm doing.

Wow, I'm surprized that so many people play instruments.

I've been playing bass guitar since New Years Eve. So that's what... a week now? Yeah. Well my dad's been playing guitar for almost 20 years now, and he souped up a cheap bass guitar which he no longer uses since he bought a new one. Therefore it's mine. As you can tell I don't know much about this stuff, but I've been having fun playing along with my smooth jazz collection (the easy songs, not the ones that change notes 3 times a second). I'm hoping that after getting good with the bass I'll move up to smooth jazz guitar, something I love very much. I'm stunned at how well smooth jazz guitarists play and the amount of talent they have, but as humble as I am I'm going to take a shot at it. I'm such a newb. laugh.gif Well I'm starting to play scales and things like that. When my dad's not teaching me I'm turning towards the internet for help. It's all good.

Been playing bass for 2 and a half years. I can honestly say that it is my life. Everything revolves around music for me, and the bass is my instrument. I have a Fender American Deluxe Jazz that is amazing, as well as a Squier P that has become fretless to screw around with. I'm learning lots of theory and many different styles. I hope to be pretty knowledgeable in many styles and be able to understand my bass inside-out.

Our guitarist lent me his old Yamaha guitar, and I've gotten alright on it. I have pretty good knowledge of basic chords, and after getting warmed up and getting used to the tight string spacing and flimsy strings I'm alright. biggrin.gif

I have some knowledge of piano and keyboard, such as basic chords, notes and their intervals, etc. I'm immersing myself in theory and it pays off. Not a great player (can't really do the 2 hand thing besides some easy songs) but it's a great songwriting tool.

I have a recorder lying around that I was never very good at. Playing on our drummer's drumset allowed me to get a feel for drums and I can basically carry a beat. I kinda have the drum sight reading down, it's not too bad.

I'd love to get a mandolin sometime. Some cheap one, just to play around with. Basically tuned like a bass, but with double up strings and a very short scale. Sounds like fun.

i play guitar. for as long as i can remember, ive always been able to pick it up and play it, but ive really devoted my life to it for the last 12 out of my 18 years. i play lead guitar for my band, which is kind of like a blues metal thingy, but i also like to play real blues, some heavier kinda stuff, classic rock, and i can play classical guitar and i was pretty good at it, but it isnt quite where my heart is and its not nearly as hard as people say it is. as for brands, i prefer Gibson, older jacksons (before fender bought the company), i like anything i make for myself and i like ESP's explorers, but i dont like anything else they make really. as for what i own, and the modifications ive done:

-1985 Gibson Explorer (i only like the mid 80's explorers when the switch was by the controls, i hate when its on the horn.)
-1968 Gibson ES-175
-2001 ESP EX 250 (converted the tone knob into a volume. now its a volume for each pickup and no tone.)
-2002 ESP EX 351 (ditto. i hate tone knobs. this is one of my favorite guitars, and my main guitar when i play with my band.)
-ESP M 50 (tone to volume again)
-1998 Jackson JS20 (there is nothing original about this guitar. i sanded the neck to a new shape, put new fretwire on, fixed up the bridge, took out the electronics, and put in 3 pickups that i made myself. i bought this guitar for 50 bucks from some skanky stoner girl on block island.)
-1993 Fender Talon
-2001 Fender Telecaster
-2000 Epiphone Limited Edition SG
-1984 Kramer Focus 3000 (replaced the bridge pickup with a flamethrower, installed a coil tap, and installed a floyd rose trem system)
-1991 Washburn KC20V (took the pickups out and replaced them with the ones i took out of the jackson. i think.)
-A black flying v that i made for myself. I used a block of brazilian mahogany for the body and a plank of maple for the neck. 2 Gibson les paul pickups, independent volume for each, 3-way toggle, and a kill switch. i need to rewire it because it wasnt shielded properly, so right now i just keep it around, but dont play it much.
-I'm building an explorer out of a beautiful alder body with a curly maple top that someone made for me. I'm going to deck it out with an EMG 85 bridge pickup and an EMG 60 neck pickup with independent volumes and a 3-way toggle. im not really sure what the neck is going to be made out of.

as for acoustics:

-1970 Martin D28
-1972 Epiphone Cortez
-An old handmade nylon string classical

amps:

Twin 500 watt ampeg Gemini's
A Marshall half stack with a Peavey Butcher head
A whole bunch of practice amps

effects (i dont usually use any effects other than distortion. this is in the order i use them.) and misc:

Danelectro fab tone distortion
A volume pedal i made out of an old wah pedal
Vox wah
Boss chorus
Boss overdrive
Boss flange
Boss digital delay
Boss compressor
i use D'addario strings (12-60 guage), and fender red pearloid celluloid picks.

************************************************************

Like most guitar players, i can also play bass, but i dont make a big thing about it, so all i got is a 1999 Epiphone accu-bass, and an old imitation Fender p bass. i got a 20 watt hartke amp and a 30 watt crate amp.

i LOVE to play drums, even though i dont really take it seriously at all. its more of stress relief than anything. i got a shell set from some dude, but i dont even know what brand it was and i dont care cuz it only cost me 20 bucks. i got a couple of sabian cymbals on it, but id rather have zildjians. i got remo heads on my toms and evans on my snare, and i use a pacific bass kick pedal. i like vic firth pro mark no-finish wood tip sticks. best 20 bucks i ever spent. my mom hated my drums.

finally, i can (and do) play the harmonica whenever i cant do any of the above things, i got 3, and theyre all hohner blues harps.

guitar players are a dime a dozen folks. i tip my hat to the bass players. ace, sabin, i90, jlombardi... you guys make it happen in my mind...
